Patent number: 6453787Abstract: A pair of drawing members, separated by a prescribed distance, are rotated toward each other in contact with an end packaging material covering the ends of a web wrapped on a web roll. The drawing members are brought toward one another, creating an insertion section by gathering the end packaging and separating the end packaging from the web on the web roll. A cutting member is inserted into the insertion section. The web roll is then rotated, whereby the end packaging is cut and removed from an end of a web roll without damaging the web wrapped thereon. Similar drawing members and cutting members are preferably located at each end of an end packaging removal device, thereby simultaneously removing the end packaging material from both ends of the web roll. The resulting end packaging removal device saves time and labor involved in removing end packaging from a web roll.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1999Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Isowa HooperswiftInventor: Satoru Yamauchi

Patent number: 5791220Abstract: A cutting device of packing apparatus includes at least three cutting blades arranged around the packing material expanding cylinder in a substantially equally-spaced manner. The cutting blades are rotatable about their own rotational axes in a synchronous manner for cutting off the continuous packing material along a circumferential slit formed on the cylinder. This simplifies the overall structure by eliminating a mechanism to move the blades around the cylinder. By using a number of blades rotatable in synchronization with each other, the time period for a single blade in contact engagement with the packing material to be cut off is substantially reduced and the efficiency of the cutting operation is enhanced. Due to the enhanced efficiency, the delay of time in the alternation of the feeding operation and cutting operation is lowered down.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1996Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: Benison & Co., Ltd.Inventor: Benker P. Patent number: 5467676Abstract: Method and apparatus for cutting a wrapper on a cylindrical roll in which a blade has a pointed tip joined to an inclined edge extending outwardly and an opposite smooth surface, the blade being moved under the outer wrap of the wrapper but outward of the material of the roll and continuing to be moved along a predetermined path along the length of the roll, with the inclined edge cutting the outer wrapper. The blade is positioned perpendicular to the roll and circumferentially from the outer end of the wrapper. In a preferred embodiment a longitudinal bubble is formed in the outer wrap of the wrapper and the blade tears through the crown of this bubble. Also in the preferred embodiment, a gathering device is provided for removing and flattening the cut wrapper.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1993Date of Patent: November 21, 1995Assignee: Lamb-Grays Harbor Co.Inventors: Steven C. Patent number: 5460069Abstract: An automated wire stripper has a forward wire-gripping assembly, a rearward insulation-pulling assembly, and a rotatable knife hub assembly positioned intermediate of the forward and rearward assemblies. The knife hub assembly includes a pair of thermal knife elements which are spring-biased to normally close upon the end of a wire. Pneumatic actuators open the knife elements against the bias of the springs. The rearward assembly is operable to clamp and pull a section of outer jacket or insulation covering from the wire after the knife hub has cut around the its circumference of the jacket.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1993Date of Patent: October 24, 1995Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Babak Sayyadi, Howard J. Patent number: 5453070Abstract: A system of forming a coreless roll paper product in which an elongated coreless paper roll is cut into segments by a saw. Prior to being cut from the elongated coreless paper roll, each roll segment is positioned on a support shaft located on a rotatable turret. The roll segment is severed while being supported by both an elongated mandrel and the support shaft, the blade passing through a space between the mandrel and support shaft. The turret has a number of spaced support shafts projecting therefrom, and rotation of the turret simultaneously brings the support shafts to various locations so that various steps in the operation are performed seriatim and simultaneously.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1994Date of Patent: September 26, 1995Assignee: James River Paper Company, Inc.Inventor: John R. Patent number: 5367930Abstract: A cutting apparatus for removing remnant paper from a paper butt roll. A beam-mounted saw rocks toward and away from the butt roll and cuts remnant paper from the roll's core. An arm-mounted wheel senses the thickness of remnant paper on the roll, and causes a block-and-tackle positioning mechanism to rock the beam and saw to a proper position for cutting the paper from the roll. A conveyor moves the butt rolls past the saw, and the height of the conveyor may be adjusted to accommodate various diameters of butt rolls.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1993Date of Patent: November 29, 1994Inventor: John H. Patent number: 5305671Abstract: A universal coil cutter for reclaiming dynamo electric machines. Specifically to cut-off the end turns of the coils of stators, rotors or armatures. The coil cutter consisting of a direct drive cutter(16), spindle and motor(15) and motor driven carriages for the x-axis(22) and the y-axis(12). The above are controlled with a joystick(10) and operate in a third plane on the z-axis(21). The table (17) is used to support the stators which are being reclaimed. Adjacent to the table(17) is a carriage with base(25) and journal (27) and rotor drive motor (23). Attached thereto a rotor drive pulley(24). The rotor belt tensioner(26) takes up slack in the drive belt which loops over and around the rotor and the drive pulley(24).Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1993Date of Patent: April 26, 1994Inventor: Theodore C. Patent number: 5123829Abstract: A rod guide remover is provided for splitting rod guides away from a sucker rod without risk of damage to the rod. A set of opposing blades are used which are kept a selected distance apart by stop members that abruptly contact a set of rod supports for preventing injury to the rod. The gap distances are selected over a relatively narrow range to insure complete splitting of all types of guides yet provide sufficient tolerance to protect the rod.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1991Date of Patent: June 23, 1992Assignee: J. Patent number: 5107735Abstract: A device for high speed automatic wire and cable insulation stripping. The device has pairs of infeed and outfeed cutting assemblies that engage and cut the insulation at multiple points in a two stage process. The cutting devices have multiple parallel space cutting edges that initially remove a strip of insulation insuring rapid removal of the remaining material.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1990Date of Patent: April 28, 1992Inventors: John Ramun, Michael D. Patent number: 4944832Abstract: A label peeler for peeling off a label attached to a side of a container such as a bottle includes a holder for holding the container, label scraping means for scraping the label off the container by effecting sliding movement in intimate contact with the side of the container, and driving means for varying the relative position of the container and the lavel scraping means to remove the label from the side of the container. With the container being held by the holder, the holder or the label scraping means or both are moved to vary the relative position of the container and the label scraping means while keeping the label scraping means in close contact with the side of the container, for thereby mechanically peeling the label off the container.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1989Date of Patent: July 31, 1990Assignee: Kirin Beer Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Ichiro Abe, Toshio Suzuki
