Plural Blasts Directed Against Plural Product Pieces Patents (Class 83/99)
  • Patent number: 8943934
Abstract: A waste strip-removing apparatus for use with a ripsaw that saws an incoming board into one or more usable boards and removes the opposite side edges, which become two waste strips that must be removed and transported to a different destination from that to which the usable board(s) is (are) transported. The apparatus includes two air-blasting units each having one or more air nozzles assigned to each waste strip. The air-blasting units are positioned with respect to a lateral direction by a positioning mechanism so that air directed from the nozzles impinges on the waste strips and moves them laterally away from the usable board(s). The positioning mechanism can include a linear motor having two forcers movable along a platen and respectively attached to air-blasting units.

  • Patent number: 5953973
Abstract: An exhaust-driven sawdust venting attachment for a sawmill provides a curved conduit portion attachable to the protective blade cover of the sawmill. A first exhaust inlet, carried by the curved conduit portion, supplies a stream of exhaust gasses that transports sawdust into a straight conduit portion. A second exhaust inlet carried by the straight conduit portion supplies a stream of exhaust gasses that transports sawdust out a vent opening some distance from the sawmill. As a result, sawdust does not tend to accumulate in the area of the saw blade.

  • Patent number: 5452634
Abstract: A die roll and air manifold system comprising a rotary die roll rotatable in a press, and an air manifold having a cylindric body positioned in a central bore in the die roll. The cylindric body of the air manifold has an outside diameter only slightly less than the diameter of the bore. A pair of shafts extend coaxially from opposite ends of the cylindric body beyond respective ends of the die roll for mounting of the air manifold and die roll on a press. The manifold shafts have outside diameters less than the diameter of the central bore in the die roll and less than the outside diameter of the cylindric body of the air manifold. Axial passaging in the air manifold is provided for connection at its inlet end to a source of pressurized air. One or more air outlet passages in the body of the air manifold extend from this axial passaging to the outer surface of the manifold body.

Abstract: A signature booklet making apparatus for an electrophotographic printing machine, the booklet making machine having a trimmer blade blower and high capacity waste bin. Selectively operable air ducts are provided to distribute an airflow either across the trim blade to remove trim scraps or through a bypass duct to efficiently fill the waste bin with scrap. A valving mechanism responsive to the operation of the trimmer directs the airflow to the correct duct. By selectively causing the air to flow across the trim blade the chance of forcing thin booklets into the waste chute thereby causing jams is minimized.

Abstract: An improved wood debris clearing device and method for a cutoff saw is provided. The device includes a conveyor having upstream and downstream sections separated by a gap where cutting occurs along a conveyance path. A deflecting mechanism including two blowers, perpendicularly oriented with respect to the conveyance path, direct air streams across the conveyance path. Cutoff wood debris is deflected off an inner wall of a hood into a receptacle, thus preventing the debris from reaching the downstream section of the conveyor and minimizing the likelihood of machine jamming.

  • Patent number: 5211092
Abstract: An improved wood working facility has a table saw which is operated in combination with a table saw extension table. The extension table is provided with an array of orifices through which air is ejected to provide a buoyant support for boards and sheet material laid atop the extension table. An ordinary shop vacuum cleaner may be utilized as the source of air being expelled from the orifices. Air may also be received from a distribution system in the shop which distributes compressed air to the various machine sites. The air is provided to an air plenum below the extension table top and exits from the plenum via the multiplicity of orifices in the top of the table. A low surface frictional veneer on the table top adds to the effort reducing efficiency of the extension table.

  • Patent number: 5211091
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting pleated paper, and especially for filtration media for the automotive industry. Two tooth roller chains in parallel are supported above a support plate upon which pleated paper is placed. There is an opening in the plate through which the teeth of two sprockets supported beneath the plate may extend to mesh with the teeth of the corresponding roller chain. The teeth on both the chain and the sprocket are the same height as the pleated paper and when driven by an electric motor pulls the paper through the device separating each pleat. One pleat at a time is pushed through a slit in the table top at which point the pleat knuckle is sheared off by pneumatic operated cutter blade. A fiberoptics infrared scanner is used to monitor the amount of pleated material available. The number of pleats cut on any one run is controlled.

  • Patent number: 5111723
Abstract: A single stroke punch apparatus includes positive removal by compressed air of workpiece slugs which adhere to the punch. A die plate has a series of bushing receiving features formed from two concentric diameters. The die plate has provision for introducing a flow of compressed air into each of the bushing receiving features. A support bushing is mounted in each of the bushing receiving features and has a surface for support of the workpiece which is elevated with respect to the die plate. A slug removal bushing is also mounted in the bushing receiving feature and is pressed into the wall of the support bushing opposite the workpiece supporting surface to form a seal. The wall of the bushing receiving feature, the support bushing, and the slug removal bushing define a passage for the compressed air such that the compressed air impinges upon the punch directly adjacent the end wall of the support bushing to positively remove the punch slug which is adhered to the punch.

  • Patent number: 5019028
Abstract: Tublar workpieces are formed with perforations of desired size and/or shape by repeatedly piercing selected portions of the workpieces by needles, pins or analogous piercing tools. The tools can be stationary while the workpieces roll therealong, or the workpieces can rotate while coming into repeated engagement with one or more sets of orbiting tools. The frequency and the number of penetrations of tools into selected portions of the workpieces are selected with a view to heat the tools as a result of frictional engagement with the material of the workpieces, i.e., as a result of repeated penetration into and extraction from selected portions of a rotating or rotating and rolling and/or axially moving workpiece. This enhances the making of predictable perforations in tubular workpieces, especially workpieces which consist of a synthetic thermoplastic material, such as bobbins for the storage of textile yarns.
