Patent number: 5789687Abstract: A chair-borne musical instrument support that is both adjustable and portable. The musical instrument support includes a seat portion having an adjustably attached support arm with an instrument rest attached to the top thereof. The musician places the seat portion of the device on the seat of a chair, and then sits on the seat portion. The support arm and instrument rest extend upward near the front edge of the chair and between the legs of the musician. The weight of the musician sitting on the chair holds the device in place. Alternatively, the musical instrument support may be held in place on a chair by adjustable straps. The base of the tuba is then placed upon the instrument rest which is covered with a non-abrasive, non-skid surface. The support arm and instrument rest may be adjusted vertically up or down to a comfortable height. The instrument then rests in the same position as if it were being held on the musician's lap, but now it does not have to be borne by the musician's legs.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1997Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Inventor: Wallace W. Patent number: 5753839Abstract: A musical instrument support strap worn around the neck of a musician to support an instrument adjacent the musician at a desired height and/or orientation. The strap provides a buckle for adjusting the height of the instrument and a fastener for opening the loop portion of the strap worn around the musician's neck. The strap can also include a pad positioned to cushion the weight of the instrument on the neck of the musician. A musical instrument support strap with a split neck loop avoids the inconveniences of convention support straps by eliminating the need to readjust the height setting of the supported instrument each time the strap is worm by the musician. The split loop strap also eliminates the disadvantages of having to pull a closed loop over the head of the musician each time the musician wears the strap. Providing a constant setting also improves a student's confidence and familiarity with the instrument.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1997Date of Patent: May 19, 1998Inventor: Bill McFarlin

Patent number: 5553529Abstract: A ring adapter assembly is releasably attachable to a thumbrest of a woodwind musical instrument, such as an oboe, clarinet, English horn or straight saxophone, to provide an attachment ring in those instances when the thumbrest of the instrument does not include a permanent attachment ring. The ring adapter assembly allows a support device to be attached to the musical instrument to relieve the weight on the thumb and hand of a musician playing the instrument. One embodiment of the ring adapter assembly is used with fixed position thumbrests and is adapted to be seated on a top surface of the thumbrest so that an attachment ring within the assembly faces away from the musical instrument. A top portion of the assembly may be moved up and down by an adjustment screw and includes a spring wire which extends around the thumbrest to connect the assembly to the thumbrest.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1995Date of Patent: September 10, 1996Inventor: Leland B. Patent number: 4926735Abstract: A musical instrument stand which includes a plurality of mounting stations for holding various musical instruments which is rotatable to facilitate a musician changing instruments quickly and which is heated to maintain the temperature of all instruments at the normal operating temperature to improve and control tonal qualities. The instrument stand includes a base with a platform being generally circular and rotatably movable with rerspect to the base. A heat chamber is defined between the platform and the base to act as a reservoir for heated air. A heating device is adapted to heat air which is transported into the air chamber. Instrument support members are attachable with respect to mounting stations defined on the platform. Attachment of a support member biases a flap to an opened position to allow heated air to flow upwardly to contact the musical instrument for maintaining it at operating temperature.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1989Date of Patent: May 22, 1990Assignees: Mobile Music, Inc., Gary Smith, Joseph StefanoInventor: Gary Smith

Patent number: 4695022Abstract: A clarinet stand made of semi-flexible plastic, constructed in such a way that there are no loose parts to assemble. Said stand, because of a unique, riveted spring action of the legs, makes possible the folding and unfolding of said legs in a matter of seconds. With legs folded, the units size and shape is comparable to that of the contour of the clarinet bell interior thus creating a unit that may be packed and stored in said bell while the clarinet is in the case. With the legs unfolded, the unit becomes a lightweight, durable stand which will hold the instrument securely, in a vertical position, when not in the player's hands.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1984Date of Patent: September 22, 1987Inventors: Alvin A.
