  • Patent number: 10643589
Abstract: An instrument modeled after a hi hat hi-hat consisting of wood, metal (or other material) and linked material, creating a complex sound effect when closed together, and an “808” (i.e. Roland “808” or similar) snare drum sound when struck with drumstick is disclosed. This invention allows drummers to create complex sounds using the hi-hat pedal (or other mounting device), to lower the Top Hi-hat toward the Bottom Hi-hat and cause the linked material to connect with the “bottom hi-hat.” The claimed device also replaces the standard electronic pad (such as but not limited to the Roland SPDS sampler pad) that recreated the famous “808” (i.e. Roland “808” or similar) handclap sound. Variations of the invention is meant to be used either alongside the traditional metal hi-hat or in lieu of the traditional metal hi-hat.

  • Patent number: 10593309
Abstract: A keyboard percussion instrument (100) generates sounds when keys (130) or other such members are struck. A movable damper bar (140) is brought into contact with the keys to artistically shorten their ringing duration. When pressed, a pedal (145) removes the damper bar from contact with the keys. When the pedal is released, a spring (1010) urges the damper bar into contact with the keys. The damper bar is supported by a pair of arms (165) that pivot about pivot points (800) at the ends of movable posts (520) that extend from a pair of pivot height adjusting mechanisms (175). Each pivot height adjusting mechanism has two adjusting screws. A first screw (510) urges a post to move up or down and a second screw (565) fixes the post in position when tightened. Adjusting the heights of the pivot points provides control over the damping of key vibrations.

  • Patent number: 10460708
Abstract: A cymbal is disclosed that reduces the presence of high partials and some midrange frequencies from a vibrating cymbal, without noticeable changes of volume, sustain and free movement of the cymbal. This design reduces the amplitude of the cymbal at high frequencies and a specific midrange, while leaving other frequencies relatively unchanged. The cymbal may be played in a normal manner by the drummer, reducing unwanted changes in rhythm. The invention teaches the introduction of rings of apertures around the central mounting hole. The apertures are approximately ?? or 3.175 mm in diameter, and are evenly spaced around the ring. Abstract: A musical tone control device capable of generating a hi-hat sound intended by the performer operates such that, when striking surface position information corresponds to a first position, instructions are provided to stop generating a musical tone with a first timbre (or that satisfies another predetermined condition), when the striking surface position has reached a predetermined second position higher than the first position after instructions are provided to generate the musical tone. Since, the performer's intention is reflected in the transition state of the striking surface position, a musical tone according to the performer's intention can be generated.

  • Patent number: 8716582
Abstract: A percussive shaker instrument with improved control in producing rhythmic sound and capable of producing different percussive sounds in a single shaker is disclosed. The shaker comprises one or more channels filled with a striker material. The channel isolates the striker material from the striker material in other channels and from any other part of the shaker. The striker material is freely movable within the channel such that it may collide with a striking surface when the shaker is moved. Alternatively, the shaker may comprise one or more pairs of jingles suspended inside the shaker body. The jingles are freely movable within the body such that they are capable of striking each other when the shaker is moved.
