Abstract: The present invention is directed to a tool that enables songwriters to efficiently solicit and analyze listener feedback during the songwriting process. To begin, a songwriter uploads a song to an online platform. The online platform presents the song and a feedback interface to a music listener. As the song plays, the listener provides feedback about the song using the feedback interface. For example, the listener may indicate that she likes or dislikes a particular element of the song, such as an instrument, at a specific point in time. The feedback is timestamped, processed, and presented to the songwriter for analysis. Provided feedback may also be used for recommending subsequent songs to the listener. The interactive music feedback system described herein may integrate with a variety of music streaming platforms.

An automatic accompaniment is progressed based on accompaniment pattern data. Upon determination that the current time point coincides with the accent position, an accompaniment event whose tone generation timing arrives within a predetermined time range following the current time point is extracted from the accompaniment pattern data, the tone generation timing of the extracted accompaniment event is shifted to the current time point, and then, accompaniment data is created based on the accompaniment event having the tone generation timing thus shifted. • Patent number: 9280313
Abstract: A target set of one or more audio samples is automatically expanded to include one or more additional audio samples or sets of audio samples. Multiple different audio samples or sets of samples that have a high compatibility rating with the target set are identified. The high compatibility rating is based on rhythmic compatibility with the target set, harmonic compatibility with the target set, and/or compatibility with various other characteristics or parameters of the target set. One or more of the audio samples or sets of audio samples having a high compatibility rating with the target set are automatically added to the target set. Thus, the user is able to have a set of audio samples automatically added to a particular target set of audio samples, resulting in an expanded set of audio samples that sound coherent (e.g., rhythmically and harmonically compatible).

  • Patent number: 9245508
Abstract: A beat information corrector acquires beat position information including information regarding a point of time when a beat is reproduced, acquires a tempo value indicating a number of beats per unit time in a music piece, and corrects the beat position information of the music piece so that the tempo value of the music piece be a same value as the reference value. A correlation value calculator calculates a correlation value, which indicates a degree of correlation of beat position information between respective music pieces among a plurality of the music pieces, based on the corrected beat position information. A music piece order determiner determines a music piece order as a reproduction order of music pieces, which are to be reproduced successively, so that a product or total sum of the correlation values between the music pieces be at a maximum or an approximate solution thereof.

  • Patent number: 9147388
Abstract: Waveform data are stored in advance together with reference position information indicative of reference positions, in the waveform data, corresponding to reference timing, such as beat timing, and correction position information indicative of correction positions in the waveform data that are different from the reference positions. The reference timing is advanced when the waveform data are reproduced. In response to arrival of the reference timing, a deviation between a reproduction position of the currently reproduced waveform data and the reference position is evaluated. When the reproduction position arrives at the correction position, the reproduction position is corrected according to the evaluated deviation.

  • Patent number: 9053695
Abstract: A compositional tool classifies and indexes loops in a library of audio loops by generating a time-stamped series of the durations of the percussive events that comprise each loop. The duration of a percussive event is based on spectral masking, in which a subsequent event having a spectral similarity to a prior event terminates the prior event. A composer queries the library with a query loop, and the system returns loops ranked according to the distance of their rhythmic signatures from that of the query loop, the distance determination being based on dynamic time warp analysis. Rhythmic signatures may also be used to classify and index video sequences.

  • Patent number: 9012754
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include storing musical elements in a database and processing performance data, where the musical elements including a plurality of reference accent pattern data and a plurality of reference system pattern data. Processing performance data can include receiving input data corresponding to a musical performance, determining an accent pattern for the musical performance, matching the accent pattern data to one or more reference accent pattern data in the database, and selecting one of the matching reference accent patterns. Processing performance data further includes receiving input corresponding to a selection of a musical style, one or more musical performance parameters, and generating a musical accompaniment based on the processed performance data, the selected musical style, and the selected one or more musical performance.

  • Patent number: 9000285
Abstract: A method and system for analyzing patterns in the relationships of notes of an input piece of music. The method comprises generating a set of the most frequently occurring note pitches in ascending pitch order that matches an interval pattern, and detecting out-of-key pitches that lie outside of this interval pattern. One or more potential key sequence bifurcations are identified which represent a list of possible key sequences according to forwards and backwards analysis. By finding patterns of repetition in the chordal sequences that may be generated according to these key sequence bifurcations, a key sequence that allows the most frequently recurring chord sequences may be chosen. Chord sequences may be analyzed by using ghost chords, temporary harmonic structures that are created, updated and finalized over time according to a combination of essential and inessential note fragments. The method further comprises identifying non-harmony pitches according to the analyzed chord sequence.

  • Patent number: 8983082
Abstract: Among other things, techniques and systems are disclosed for detecting musical structures, such as downbeats. In one aspect, a method performed by a data processing device includes receiving an input audio signal. The method includes detecting a meter in the received audio signal. Detecting the meter includes generating an envelope of the received audio signal; generating an autocorrelation phase matrix having a two-dimensional array based on the generated envelope to identify a dominant periodicity in the received audio signal; and filtering both dimensions of the generated autocorrelation phase matrix to enhance peaks in the two-dimensional array. The meter represents a time signature of the input audio signal having multiple beats. Additionally, the method includes identifying a downbeat as a first beat in the detected meter.
