    Abstract: Disclosed is a system of sound generating units for generating musical sounds according to a sequential order in electronic musical instruments such as instruments comprising a keyboard, an electronic drum apparatus, a rhythm machine or an automatic performing or accompanying apparatus. Consecutive note-on messages are processed to identify musical tones generated by the same notes, whereafter the same tones are superposed. This enables a well balanced generation of sounds between the sound generating units as the units generate sounds in a circulative sequence in response to performance controlling messages that are received by the units, according to a preferential order. The system of the present invention further provides a good reproduction of volume changes in composite musical tones, which changes are due to attenuation caused by a new note-on message that alters the volume of a musical tone as such tone is generated in response to a previous note-on message.

The techinque includes the steps of entering into a digital computer data representing the nominal pitch and duration of each of the successive notes in the musical score to be processed therein; processing the notes in the computer to contour the amplitude of each note in accordance with its relationship to the succeeding note in the score; and generating and audibly reproducing tones representing the amplitude-contoured notes in the processed score to impart expression to the reproduced music derived therefrom.

    Abstract: An electronic musical instrument has a parameter setting system for setting a parameter necessary for controlling a musical characteristic which is a tone color or a musical effect such as a vibrato in a musical tone generating section. The parameter setting system comprises a memory (RAM) for storing a plurality of sets of parameters each set including, for example, a vibrato delay parameter and a vibrato speed parameter. When one of tone-color selection switches on a control panel is depressed, the set of parameters corresponding to the depressed tone-color selection switch are read and supplied to the musical tone generating section to thereby control the vibrato of the musical tone. The selected set of parameters in the RAM can be changed by the player through menu selection switches and data-up and data-down switches to desired values. The system may include a quit switch for restoring the set of parameters precedingly selected.

    Abstract: In an automatic rhythm performing apparatus, pattern memory stores rhythm pattern data of respective rhythm patterns for respective rhythm instrument tones as identified by channel numbers. Selected rhythm pattern data are read out together with the channel numbers and are supplied to corresponding tone generation channels for respective instrument tones according to the selected rhythm kind. There is provided a rewritable data memory storing channel alteration data for altering the channel number included in the read-out pattern data to another channel number. The rhythm pattern data read out from the pattern memory are supplied, as modified by the channel alteration data read out from the rewritable data memory, to the tone generation channels of the alteredly designated channel number. The channel alteration data of the data memory are rewritten by the manipulation of keys in the performance keyboard, whereby the rhythm patterns of the instrument tones are easily altered.
