  • Publication number: 20130025445
Abstract: A gas block assembly for a firearm comprises a gas cylinder fluidly coupled to the bore of a barrel of the firearm through a gas inlet port, and an automatically adjusting gas pressure relief port. The gas cylinder receives a gas pressure generated in the barrel of the firearm, and the gas pressure relief port vents gas pressure in the gas cylinder directly or indirectly into the bore of the barrel of the firearm or attached sound suppressor if the gas pressure in the gas cylinder is greater than or equal to a predetermined and preset gas pressure. A pressure relief mechanism is fluidly coupled between the gas cylinder and the gas pressure relief port and vents gas pressure from the gas cylinder to the gas pressure relief port if the gas pressure in the gas cylinder is greater than or equal to the predetermined gas pressure.

Abstract: A piston assembly is provided for a gas-operated firearm of the type having a chamber and a barrel. The piston assembly includes a gas expansion housing and a piston mounted within the gas expansion housing. An annular recess is formed in the outer wall of the piston to receive exhaust gases diverted from the barrel upon firing of the firearm. At least one longitudinally extending groove extends from the annual recess to the head of the piston and forms a pathway for diverting the exhaust gases to the head of the piston. During firing, pressurized gases are diverted into the annular recess and expand longitudinally from the annular recess to the piston head, whereupon the pressurized exhaust gas drives the gas piston rearwardly along the housing.

  • Patent number: 7946214

  • Patent number: 7938054
Abstract: The characteristic of one or more of the gas springs themselves used in a revolver cannon or breech cannon is adjusted while the system is in operation. This is done by a separate, self-contained system, which can adjust the gas spring from hard to soft, for example, and back to harder/hard and can thus adjust the characteristic of the gas spring without the loss of gas. In the simplest embodiment, this system has two additional elements, preferably a reserve tank and a connecting line that connects the reserve tank to the gas spring via a valve.

  • Patent number: 7938055
Abstract: A semi-automatic or automatic rifle is provided. The semi-automatic or automatic rifle includes a receiver having an integral hand guard portion, a barrel having a bore. The bore is removably connected to the receiver, the hand guard portion extending over and surrounding the barrel, an indirect gas operating system has a gas block and a piston. The gas block has a cylinder, the gas block is fitted to the barrel, the cylinder is in communication with the bore. The piston has a piston end and a striking end, the piston end is fitted to the cylinder and has a bolt carrier having a striking surface. When a cartridge is fired, gas displaces the piston end and causes the striking end to strike the striking surface displacing the bolt assembly, wherein, the cylinder and the piston are together removable as an assembly from the firearm without disassembly of the rifle.

Abstract: A black rifle configuration automatic or semi-automatic firearm having an indirect gas operating system. The firearm has a black rifle configuration receiver assembly having a bolt assembly enclosed within. The bolt assembly having a striking surface and a barrel assembly having a bore, the barrel assembly being coupled to the receiver assembly. A gas block is fitted to the barrel assembly, the gas block having a front folding sight. A rod assembly has a striking rod. Gas discharged from a fired cartridge displaces the piston and causes the striking rod displace the bolt assembly.

  • Patent number: 7921760
Abstract: A compact gas block with rail interface has a first longitudinal bore for receiving a firearm barrel, the barrel having a gas port, the gas block having a second longitudinal bore for receiving a gas tube or operating element. The block includes a vertical bore aligned with the barrel gas port and connecting the first and second block bores and permitting passage of cartridge gas from the barrel gas port to the gas tube. The improved gas block includes a military rail, forward of the gas tube, the forward location permitting rail and accessories to lie close to the barrel, enabling handguard installation and removal, improving handling, and reducing firearm bulk.

  • Patent number: 7891284
Abstract: A gas-operated firearm has a barrel defining a bore with a gas block defining a chamber communicating with the bore via a gas passage. A gas regulation element has a first position and a second position, and serves to provide different gas flow characteristics in the different positions. The latch element gives the user audible or tactile feedback upon installation of an accessory device when the gas regulation element is a correct position suited to use of the accessory, and not when in the other position unsuited to accessory usage. The accessory may be a sound suppressor, and the latch may serve to secure the gas regulation element against position change. The latch may engage a circular array of elements on the rear face of the suppressor, and may have an angled cam face to provide ratcheting engagement for installation, and to resist removal or loosening without deliberate actuation of the latch.

  • Publication number: 20110023700
Abstract: A receiver assembly for a firearm has an as-manufactured original equipment manufacturer (OEM) receiver body, an operating rod bushing, and an operating rod. The as-manufactured OEM receiver body has therein a bolt carrier bore and a gas tube lug receiving portion. The gas tube lug receiving portion intersects the bolt carrier bore. A gas lug bore extends through the receiver body between the gas tube lug receiving portion of the receiver body and a front face of the receiver body. The operating rod bushing is mounted within the gas lug bore of the as-manufactured OEM receiver body. The operating rod extends through a central passage of the operating rod bushing into the gas tube lug receiving portion of the as-manufactured OEM receiver body. The central passage of the operating rod bushing and the operating rod are jointly configured for limiting radial displacement of the operating rod with respect to the operating rod bushing.

  • Patent number: 7856917
Abstract: An adjustable gas block designed to interface with an autoloading firearms gas system. Three positions of adjustment are provided to optimize the gas flow from the barrel for the host firearm. One of the three provided positions of adjustment is selected if a silencer is in use, not in use, or if the user desires to stop the autoloading function of the firearm entirely. This design works by restricting the flow of gas from the gas port in the barrel and does not vent excess gas into the atmosphere around the gas block.
