Rotating Output Shaft Type (e.g., Locomotive Or Reversing Means, Etc.) Patents (Class 91/194)
  • Patent number: 5896802
Abstract: A rotating device for a diesel motor comprises a unit having a plurality of pneumatic cylinders that can be brought into mating engagement with teeth on a flywheel of the motor. Each pneumatic cylinder, under the control of a control unit, is actuated and sequentially pushed into the teeth such that a counter-clockwise or clockwise rotation is possible.

  • Patent number: 4898075
Abstract: An indexing mechanism comprising a member adapted to be advanced a predetermined amount and along a predetermined path, a pair of spaced drivers, and a control valve for operating the drivers in an alternative manner. The member adapted to be advanced defines a profile surface including a plurality of spaced radial segments. Each radial segment includes a crown section which is joined to an adjacent crown section by two oppositely directed ramps defining a fillet radius therebetween. The spacing between the drivers being such that when one driver is urged against a crown section the other driver acts against a fillet radius. The drivers are operated by the control valve 180.degree. out of phase relative to each other. A driver, after moving off a crown section, coacts with ramp to impart a driving force to the member. The driving force being sufficient to move the member in an indexed fashion the predetermined amount of its movement.

  • Patent number: 4649801
Abstract: A rotating and reciprocating positive displacement mechanism which draws in a metered volume of gas and then expands or compresses that quantity of gas before expelling it. The mechanism has useful application as a compressor, a compressed gas motor, an expanding vapor engine, or a hot gas engine, where generation of heat by combustion can be either internal or external to the expansion mechanism. The primary advantages of the mechanism over conventional mechanisms used in these applications include (1) few moving parts, (2) easily constructed parts of simple geometry, (3) feasibility of compound operation (i.e. two-stage expansion or compression), (4) relatively constant input or output torque throughout the operating cycle, and (5) relative absence of high pressure peaks during the operating cycle (even when used as an internal combustion engine).

  • Patent number: 4062219
Abstract: The arm of a forging manipulator has tongues at one end for engaging with a workpiece and is journaled for rotation about a horizontal axis. At the other end the arm carries a pair of clamps each of which has a pair of clamping jaws pivotally connected at one end and adapted to be spread apart or drawn against the arm by a spreading hydraulic cylinder at the other end of each pair of jaws. The cylinders are interconnected for reversing operation and are hydraulically linked to a pair of drive cylinders, the pistons of which are pivotally connected to the respective clamps so that one of the drive cylinders is effective to rotate the arm when its clamping cylinder draws its jaws against the arm while the other clamping cylinder spreads the other pair of jaws apart during the ineffective stroke of the drive piston.
