Patent number: 5556007Abstract: An air-operated spray gun for spraying two fluid components in proportional amounts has the fluids fed separately from a pair of fluid cylinders each containing a fluid-operated double-acting piston with the volumes of each cylinder being in accord with the desired proportion of the fluids. The fluids are fed from the cylinders through fluid flow control valves which are switchable between a first position for directing fluid from a fluid source into one end of its associated cylinder and out the opposite end of the cylinder to the spray gun and a second position for directing the fluid out of the one end of the cylinder to the spray gun and into the opposite end of the cylinder from the fluid source. Air control valves instantaneously switch the fluid flow control valves from one position to the other. Sensing devices operate the air control valves when the cylinder pistons reach the ends of their strokes.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1995Date of Patent: September 17, 1996Assignee: Mattson Spray Equipment, Inc.Inventor: Charles O. Patent number: 5520520Abstract: A double acting pneumatically operated pumping assembly for pumping viscous fluids, especially food stuffs, is provided. The piston has an enlarged central portion integral with reduced diameter end portions. Inspection means, for example vent ports, are provided between seals of each end portion so that any leakage of either pneumatic fluid or of viscous fluid is detectable. The pump is preferably of modular form, each module having flanged ends and hand-tightenable band clamps holding the flanges together for easy assembly and disassembly. A feature of the invention is an operating valve having pilot chambers at each end for control of the spool position. Movement of pilot pistons within the pilot chambers affects the pressure balance between ends of the spool. Changes in pressure may be derived from the piston chamber of the pump from ports located to change the pressure balance of the valve when the pump piston has completed its stroke.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1995Date of Patent: May 28, 1996Inventors: Tomijiko Nakamoto, Alberto Nielsen

Patent number: 5366353Abstract: The air valve on a reciprocating pneumatic pump bleeds air from the pressurized air chamber into the exhaust port through a hole in the valve cup in order to warm the exhaust port area and prevent ice build up in the area. Such construction is also suited for use in spool valves.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1994Date of Patent: November 22, 1994Inventor: Kent P. Hand

Patent number: 5297469Abstract: An improved fluid power actuator assembly comprising a power piston reciprocatingly mounted in a cylinder bore which is formed in a compact fluid power manifold providing the necessary circuit connections between control valves mounted on the housing and the cylinder bore. The cylinder bore preferably includes two circumferentially spaced signal ports disposed in the wall of the cylinder bore along the path of travel of the piston in addition to the primary power ports located at each end of the cylinder bore to drive the piston. The piston includes at least one circumferential groove and functions as a spool valve for opening and closing communication between the signal ports as the piston travels in the cylinder. Appropriate control valves and signal pressure communicating with the signal ports is disclosed to enable a fluid power signal to be generated which is related to the position of the piston during its travel in the cylinder bore.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1993Date of Patent: March 29, 1994Inventor: Robert E. Raymond

Patent number: 5240042Abstract: A control logic circuitry comprising a toggle type fluid actuated pilot control valve which is activated by a fluid pressure signal pulse to shift between a first and second state to deliver a control signal to a main power control valve. The pilot control valve and associated circuitry includes the capability to maintain itself in either one of the shifted states after termination of the pressure signal pulse until actuated to the other state by another pressure signal pulse. The pilot control valve is described in connection with controlling the functions associated with a linear fluid power piston including switching a main power valve to reverse the piston stroke.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1992Date of Patent: August 31, 1993Inventor: Robert E. Patent number: 4488473Abstract: A working head is adapted to impart reciprocal motion under a predetermined amount of force to a plunger through a working and return cycle and at a controllable rate of speed. A fluid circuit includes delivery and return lines extending between a source of fluid under pressure and the working head, and pilot control means associated with the fluid pressure source is operative to regulate the working and return cycle. The working head has a plurality of annular flexible casings of toroidal configuration with opposite sidewalls terminating in mutually opposed, inner bead-like edges and interconnecting means extending between the edges of adjacent casings serve to interconnect the casings in sealed, coaxially spaced relation to one another. Closures at opposite ends of the plurality of casings define a common sealed chamber therebetween. A support member fixes one end of the chamber against movement and permits axial expansion and contraction of the opposite end of the chamber with respect to the fixed end.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1982Date of Patent: December 18, 1984Assignee: Liquid Power, Inc.Inventor: Jimmie L.
