Pivoted Patents (Class 92/118)
  • Patent number: 4082191
Abstract: To facilitate transferring a massive crane boom from a regular crane carrier vehicle to an independent transport trailer, pivot pins for the rear ends of boom lift cylinders are held removably in journal boxes which are recessed into the crane turntable and are normally held captive in the recesses by shiftable locking dogs adapted to be extended over the tops of the journal boxes and to be retracted therefrom. The locking dogs are operated by turntable mounted power cylinders and safety means is provided to block accidental retraction of the locking dogs during normal crane usage.

  • Patent number: 4060136
Abstract: A motor grader has a circle with integral, depending arms at the rear, and the lower ends of the arms extend forwardly so that blade mountings, comprising bearing housings pivoted at their lower ends to the extremities of the arms, extend upwardly in very close proximity to the fronts of the arms. Two hydraulic cylinder and piston units for tilting the blade mountings are carried in sleeves which are integral with and between the arms, directly behind the upper end portions of the blade mountings, which permits the use of very short stroke pistons that are well protected from damage by earth and rocks piled up by the blade. In addition the units are mounted in spherical bearing and socket means for limited universal movement within the sleeves. Further, the piston rods extend along shallow chords of a circle struck about the pivots which mount the bearing housings, so working forces are applied substantially axially to the piston rods in all positions of the bearing housings.

  • Patent number: 4058178
Abstract: A hydraulic cylinder unit which comprises a cylinder, a piston slidably inserted in the cylinder in a fluid-tight manner, and a piston rod connected to the piston at one end thereof and projected outwardly from the cylinder and which is operated to extend the piston rod by a fluid supplied under pressure into one chamber in the cylinder and to retract the piston rod by a mechanical force applied to the piston or piston rod (single-acting type) or by a fluid supplied under pressure into the other chamber in the cylinder (double-acting type) is used for lifting, transporting or displacing a material in various industries. In the use of such hydraulic cylinder unit, load in the axial direction of the unit is applied to the cylinder unit by a load or material carried on operated by the cylinder unit or the piston rod thereof and detection of such load is often required. This load is detected by a strain gauge mounted in the piston rod.

  • Patent number: 4056043
Abstract: A pneumatic actuator includes a cup-shape cylinder body housing a piston and having a generally flat base with a mounting hub projecting outwardly. A piston rod is slidably mounted in the hub and connects to a load such as a damper in an air mixing box. The base is formed with a bearing recess or depression means encircling the hub. The recess defines a spherical sector offset from the center of a complete sphere of the same radius. An annular swivel ring includes an inner diameter adapted to loosely fit over the hub and includes an outer periphery which is generally spherically shaped and defines a central spherical sector having a maximum planar diameter slightly larger than that of the sector defined by recess. The swivel ring is a two-part member having interconnecting slot and projection elements providing a snap joint connection, with the mounting plate firmly clamped therebetween. The swivel ring with the attachment plate fits over the mounting hub.

  • Patent number: 4037670
Abstract: An improved blade clamping mechanism for a motor grader blade which has blade support rails carried in pivoted blade support means for lateral sliding movement, and in which confining surfaces in the blade support means restrict both vertical and fore-and-aft movement of the rails in the support means. A clamp lever is pivoted on the circle of the motor grader and has a clamp arm which can be turned in a vertical plane against the bottom of the lower support rail with a high mechanical advantage to force the rail against an overlying confining surface; and a single action hydraulic cylinder and piston unit which turns the lever simultaneously presses a clamp shoe against the rear of the upper support rail. The clamps are normally locked by hydraulic pressure on the piston, and released by moving a manually controlled valve to a drain position so that a return spring acting on the clamp shoe can move the shoe and the lever to a release position.

  • Patent number: 4032025
Abstract: A backhoe has a main boom mounting a jib boom rotatably and pivotally. The jib boom journals a yoke about one axis and a bucket is pivotal on the yoke about a transverse axis and a hydraulic cylinder drive having a double-ended piston extending between arms of the yoke is adjustable to tilt the bucket to keep its lower edge level when desired.

  • Patent number: 4031967
Abstract: A motor grader has a circle which includes integral depending arms at the rear, blade carrying structure is supported forward of the arms on transverse pivots which are at the lower extremities of the arms, and hydraulic cylinder and piston units are supported for limited universal movement in sleeves which are integral with the circle, the pistons of said units being pivotally connected to the blade carrying structure for tilting the latter about the transverse pivots. The cylinder unit supports include flanged collars on the cylinders on which spherical bearings are removably mounted, and bearing sockets in the sleeves consisting of two annular elements which are detachably connected to each other. Flexible dust proofing boots enclose the spherical bearings and sockets; and an interengaging slot and hub restrict rotation of each unit in the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 3993206
Abstract: An elongated, generally horizontal frame is provided with latch means at each end. An equipment mounting frame is mounted on the elongated frame for movement to selected positions therealong from adjacent one end to adjacent the other end of the elongated frame; a hydraulic cylinder is pivotally mounted on the equipment mounting frame, about a generally horizontal axis proceeding transversally. Piston rods extend in opposite axial directions from a piston slidingly received in the cylinder. Cooperating latch means are provided on the outer ends of the two piston rods. The equipment mounting frame is moved along the elongated frame by latching one piston rod end or the other in one of the latch means of the elongated frame and applying hydraulic fluid to the cylinder to relatively extend or retract the latched piston rod. Latching and unlatching are accomplished by temporarily tilting the cylinder from horizontal (e.g.

  • Patent number: 3974803
Abstract: An internal combustion engine wherein a piston element with rectilinear sides operates within a movable cylinder-piston element having rectilinear sidewalls, and wherein the combustion chamber has a polyhedral shape. Rotatable crankshafts are mounted in each of the piston and cylinder-piston elements so that said elements follow gyratory paths in opposite directions to effect a variable volume combustion chamber. A cylindrical valve member is rotated in timed sequence to the rotation of the crankshafts so that intake and exhaust ports are sequentially opened and closed during the combustion cycles. One or both of the crankshafts may operate or be joined to a drive shaft or shafts for work output, said crankshafts being interconnected by gear means to coordinate gyratory movement of the piston and cylinder-piston elements.

  • Patent number: 3945766
Abstract: A radial piston pump wherein the crank pin of a crankshaft engages with arcuate shoes at inner ends of radially extending pistons which are reciprocable in discrete cylinders. The outer end of each cylinder normally bears against the convex sealing surface of a discrete back support having in the sealing surface a pressure port for evacuation of pressurized fluid in response to outward movement of the respective piston. The cylinders are caused to move their outer ends away from full engagement with the respective sealing surfaces in response to inward movements of the respective pistons so that the chambers of the cylinders can draw fluid from the interior of the pump housing. The cylinders are caused to move substantially radially and away from the respective sealing surfaces due to frictional engagement between their internal surfaces and the external surfaces of the respective pistons.
