  • Patent number: 8789455
Abstract: Drive mechanism for the conversion of oscillatory motion into rotating motion or vice versa by means of a non-circular gear train, in a system composed of arcuate pistons solidly fixed to a rotor which is able to oscillate about its axis inside a stator. The mechanism comprises a set of non-circular internal and external toothed gears coupled in a fashion similar to that of two epicyclic gearings joined by their respective planet gears, although there are not any sun gears in the present arrangement. All the gears cooperate so as to produce the sought motion conversion between the pistons and the planet carriers and the drive shaft attached thereon. Its field of application includes therefore any device that uses variable volume chambers as a means to transmit energy to, or obtain energy from, a working gas, such as compressors, pneumatic motors or internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 7421989
Abstract: A vane-type camshaft phaser having a rotational authority between 40 crank degrees before TDC and 30 crank degrees after TDC. The phaser includes a stator seat formed at a rotation position intermediate between full advance and full retard. A locking pin in a vane of the rotor engages the seat, locking the rotor at the intermediate position. The pin is disengaged by pressurized engine oil independent of oil flows for advance and retard of the rotor. The oil is controlled by a dedicated valve. Preferably, the seat and the ends of the locking pin are vented by passages in the rotor and stator which are aligned when the rotor is at the selected locking angle to remove oil resistance to entry of the pin into the seat. To position the locking pin over the seat, phasing rate is reduced to allow time for the locking pin to engage the seat.

  • Patent number: 7421991
Abstract: A vane-type camshaft phaser includes a vaned camshaft rotor disposed within a lobed stator, defining phase advance and retard chambers filled with oil. The height of the rotor is less than the height of the stator, providing space for a vaned brake rotor alongside the camshaft rotor. The brake rotor is free to rotate independently of the camshaft rotor. The volume of each advance and retard chamber is a function of the rotational position of both the camshaft rotor and the brake rotor, and the volume of each chamber is constant. Rotation of the brake rotor in one direction causes rotation of the camshaft rotor in the opposite direction. The brake rotor is connected to a controllable brake mechanism. By sensing of the camshaft rotor position and feedback control of the braking mechanism, the camshaft rotor may be maintained at any position.

The adjusable valve mechanism 120 advances or delays a phase angle of an intake cam shaft relative to a crankshaft, thereby varying an open-close timing of a valve. The model computation module 140 computes a physical behavior of the adjustable valve mechanism 120 according to a physical model, in response to a control signal input from the VVT controller 110. The abnormality detection module 150 determines whether the adjustable valve mechanism 120 is abnormal or normal, based on a difference between a theoretical value of phase angle calculated according to the physical model and an observed value of phase angle measured with the cam angle sensor 130. The arrangement of the invention ensures highly accurate abnormality diagnosis of the adjustable valve mechanism 120.

Abstract: A CO.sub.2 compressor is disclosed for forcing and moving a lubricant under discharge pressure. If the oil path is reduced in size or a pressure reducing part is inserted to handle the large differential pressure caused between the discharge pressure and the intake pressure, the oil path would become liable to be easily clogged by foreign matter. In view of this, an intermittent oil supply mechanism is formed in the oil path using the sliding contact portion between a fixed member of the compressor body and a movable member. Thus, the substantial lubrication time period is shortened and the amount of oil supplied is limited.

Abstract: A piston for use in a compressor that compresses gas containing lubricating oil is disclosed. The compressor has a crank chamber and cylinder bores for accommodating the pistons. A swash plate is located in the crank chamber and is supported on a drive shaft for integrally rotating with the drive shaft. The swash plate is operably connected to the pistons by shoes to convert the rotation of the drive shaft to reciprocation of each piston. Each piston has a head for compressing the gas supplied to the cylinder bore and a skirt projecting from the head toward the crank chamber. The skirt has a slot for receiving the swash plate by means of the shoes. A rib is formed on an inner wall of the slot and extends parallel to the axis of the piston. When the swash plate rotates, swirling gas in the crank chamber collides against the rib. When the gas collides against the rib, the oil contained in the gas separates from the gas and is guided to the shoes.
