  • Patent number: 7117781
Abstract: A piston pump or compressor has a dynamically balanced drive assembly in which nearly all of the rotational, oscillatory and axial forces on the rotating drive shaft are canceled. The piston is primarily balanced by adding an oscillating counter weight mounted to the connecting rod to convert oscillatory forces into rotational forces at the axis of an eccentric element mounting the piston to the drive shaft. The remaining unbalanced rotational forces are centered along the drive shaft by a rotating counter weight. A further counter weight is mounted to the drive shaft spaced along the drive shaft from the rotating counter weight to impart a counter moment on the drive shaft and essentially cancel the moment about a moment axis perpendicular to the drive shaft resulting from the axial spacing of the piston and the other two counter weights. A method of reducing vibration on a piston drive shaft is also disclosed.

Abstract: A piston pump assembly with a rotatingly driven swashplate in driving relationship with a rocker arm and piston engaged with one end of the rocker arm. A spring urges the rocker arm and piston into contact with an annular ring carried by a bearing in the swashplate. The spring may be a separate leaf spring or may be formed integrally with the rocker arm. The rocker arm engagement with the piston uses a spherical ball-joint-like surface. The contact between each of the rocker arm and piston and the annular ring utilize spherical surfaces on the rocker arm and piston, with an elongated footprint on the rocker arm and a circular footprint on the piston. The piston is allowed a slight radial play in operation.

  • Patent number: 6997101
Abstract: A reciprocating compressor is capable of preventing a bush, provided between an eccentric shaft and an eccentric shaft mounting hole of a connecting rod, from being deformed. The reciprocating compressor includes a rotating shaft rotated by a drive unit which generates a rotating force. An eccentric shaft is eccentrically rotated by the rotating shaft. A piston reciprocates by a force transmitted from the eccentric shaft, thus compressing a refrigerant. A connecting rod has, on an end thereof, an eccentric shaft mounting hole so that the eccentric shaft is mounted to the end of the connecting rod, and converts a rotating motion of the eccentric shaft into a reciprocating motion to reciprocate the piston. A bush is placed between the eccentric shaft mounting hole and the eccentric shaft to fill a space between the eccentric shaft mounting hole and the eccentric shaft, with a hinge hole being provided at a predetermined portion of the bush to allow the eccentric shaft to be rotatably fitted into the hinge hole.

Abstract: A master cylinder for use in the power train of a motor vehicle to actuate the brakes or the friction clutch is designed to avoid the generation of screeching noise and/or the transmission of stray movements to the piston rod in response to shifting of the piston relative to the housing and relative to the sealing element(s) between the piston and the housing. This can be accomplished by causing the piston to turn relative to the housing and the sealing element(s) during axial movement in the housing and/or by installing one or more dampers between the piston and the housing and/or between the piston and the piston rod. The dampers can constitute separately produced parts and/or specially configured and/or finished surfaces provided on the piston and contacting the housing and/or the sealing element(s). The invention also relates to improvements in the configuration and/or the material(s) of the piston.

Abstract: The present invention provides a cylinder block which can reduce the vibrations and noises produced from the engine at high temperatures and has a light weight, as well as a method of making such a cylinder block. Specifically, the cylinder block of the present invention comprises a main body (5, 21) of the cylinder block, a bearing (11, 17) attached to the underside of the main body (5, 21), and a crankshaft supported rotatably in a bearing section (13, 25) formed by the underside of the main body (5, 21) and the bearing (11, 17). • Patent number: 6539835
Abstract: A piston machine with at least one axially movable piston in a cylinder is designed with a force conversion mechanism implying sinusoidal piston movement by rotation of the power input or power output shaft of the machine, depending on its application. As the pistons of the machine are fastened perpendicularly to a crosshead yoke (5) at their preferably light, cylindrical piston-rods (2,2′), in which two crosshead slides (14,14′) each are provided on a crank pin journal (7,7′; 8,8′) which is synchronized to perform rotation with mutual opposite directions of rotation (indicated as arrows). This arrangement causes the crosshead slides longitudinally in the yoke to move in exact mutual opposition and to reverse their direction of movement at the exact same time. Thus, the lateral pressure on pistons is completely eliminated and without any addition of any extra balancing mechanism there may be achieved a complete outbalancing of the reciprocating and rotating masses in the machine.

Pistons are nested together to maintain all pistons in the same plane perpendicular to the axis of the crankshaft. Cylinders are driven in a reciprocating fashion by the pistons and are held loosely in a cylinder carriage along its axis with radial sealing engagement therebetween. Pliable members mount port plates within a housing such that there is no direct contact therebetween or with a two-layer manifold. A flat surface of the port plate is urged against the cylinder head by a pliable member which exerts a force on the center of the port plate. Grooves in the first layer of the manifold are sealed by the second layer to form fluid passageways. The cylinder head is guided in housing grooves with a pliable member.
