  • Patent number: 7159508
Abstract: An improved seal and stabilizing system for a piston head in a tank cylinder provides a better mechanism for discharging and wiping a cylinder when heavy liquids such as chocolate or peanut butter are being dispensed. The seal system now includes a free-floating block inside the seal and grooves in the inner lower part of the hollow seal. The block and grooves keep the upper, outer part of the seal from deforming away from the inner surface of the cylinder that facilitates complete discharging and wiping of the material from the cylinder tank. The tensioning mechanism of the seal is made from a unitary and annular ring T-ring that easily slides on the rear surface of the piston head. In order to stabilize the movement of the piston head down the cylinder, clockwise and counterclockwise springs are provided for the stabilizing shoes. The dual spring arrangement prevents coil binding of the springs.

  • Patent number: 6422131
Abstract: In a piston pressure device with a sealing device (10) for sealing between spaces of different pressure that includes an elastomer (12) as a first component and a material plastically deformable under pressure as a second component, whereby the components ensure sealing at various pressure differences, a piston (30) and a piston shaft (20), the piston (30) is axially shiftable in relation to the piston shaft (20) and the sealing device (10) is arranged form-closed in a recess between the piston (30) and the piston shaft (20).

  • Patent number: 5746112
Abstract: In an elongate tank for transport or for storage in bulk of semisolid and fluid material such as grease and oil. The tank has an outlet at one end thereof for discharging material contained therein and is of generally cylindric internal cross section. It has a generally cylindric piston sized to slide in the tank and adapted to be moved in a direction toward the outlet thereby to force the material in the tank through the outlet. The piston comprises a piston member which carries an annular elastic seal. The seal has an annular crown projecting radially outwardly from the piston member and engageable with the interior surface of the tank.

  • Patent number: 4759266
Abstract: An oil control ring for a piston in an i.c. engine comprising an expander ring and two lamellar rails which scrape the oil from the cylinder wall. The expander ring has two series of lugs arranged alternately on each side, which support the rails and two series of dimples arranged alternately on each side which space the rails from the expander ring. The expander ring has notches in its outer and inner circumference and is bent into a circular form. Its free ends form a butt joint.

  • Patent number: 4696624
Abstract: A well-pressure operated pump having a tubular pump body provided with an interior, annular seating surface to receive a valve member mounted on a rod extending through the seating surface. An air spring in the pump body urges the rod upwardly in response to fluid pressure in the pump body and the height of the seating surface and the position of the valve member on the rod are adjustable for adjusting the well pressure at which the valve member is seated. Seal assemblies mounted on the pump body are adjustable to match the pump to the internal diameter of the well casing and the seal assemblies are provided with retainer rings having flanges that capture end portions of a sealing member of each seal assembly. A brake, having a plate that is spring loaded to overlay a shoulder in the bore of the pump body, slows the rate of descent of the pump through gases in the well. An aspirator formed in the support for the plate holds the plate off the shoulder during passage of the pump through liquids in the well.

  • Patent number: 4508354
Abstract: Packing or sealing moving in a hollow cylinder.Such a device, or moving piston with self-tightening ring, comprises two elements of cylindrical external outline such as a cylindrical rod integral with the first element slides in a cylindrical chamber delimited inside a second element and facing the first element, the two elements being separated by an annular ring that ensures the packing or sealing with the internal wall of the cylinder.Such a piston allows to suppress use of mercury as pressure transmission agent.

  • Patent number: 4226169
Abstract: The operation of a reciprocating expansion engine for cryogenic refrigeration is improved by changing the pistons and rings so that the piston can be operated from outside the engine to vary the groove in which the piston ring is located. This causes the ring, which is of a flexible material, to be squeezed so that its contact with the wall is subject to external control. This control may be made manually or it may be made automatically in response to instruments that sense the amount of blow-by of the cryogenic fluid and adjust for an optimum blow-by.

  • Patent number: 4211345
Abstract: A dosing unit for highly filled synthetic-resin components, usually a polyol and an isocyanate mixed with glass fiber, barite or chalk, comprises a piston which displaces the components or one of them, especially the filled component under the control of fluid pressure. The change in the feed rate of the fluid-controlled unit is varied by varying the speed of the displacing member of the fluid-controlled unit which is preferably a piston-and-cylinder arrangement. The piston-and-cylinder arrangement has its drive piston formed with a normal seal and its dosing or metering piston formed with an adjustable seal such that a tool can be inserted through the cylinder wall to rotate a toothed member of this latter piston to adjust for wear of its seal.

  • Patent number: 4020750
Abstract: A piston pump mechanism includes a plunger head slideably mounted within a cylindrical sleeve member. The plunger head has an upper portion forming a shoulder and a reduced lower portion around which an inner ring of resilient material is mounted. An outer ring of resilient material, such as tetrafluroethylene, for example, is mounted around the inner ring. A piston rod has an end coupled to the transverse face of the reduced portion of the plunger head in such manner to provide axial adjustment therebetween, and a pressure cap is mounted upon this end. The pressure cap has a cylindrical like peripheral rim for applying a progressively greater axial force against the inner ring, causing the inner ring of material to apply a progressively greater radial force against the outer ring, as the piston rod and cap assembly are axially adjusted toward the plunger head, until the outer ring of material seals against the interior wall of the sleeve.
