  • Patent number: 8342371
Abstract: The caulking gun comprises a cartridge holder (12) for accommodating a cartridge (25). For pressing out the substance contained in the cartridge (25), use is made of a piston (30) which is advanced by a pressure disk (16). The pressure disk (16) can be radially expanded under the influence of the advancement force and thus will press by a spreading edge (49) against the side wall (31) of the piston (30). In this manner, the piston in the region of its side wall (31) is tightly pressed against the cartridge wall. Leakage of substance past the piston (30) is prevented.

  • Patent number: 6484622
Abstract: A variable oil ring compression mechanism provides for real-time cyclic variation of piston ring tension in an operating internal combustion engine. A cam is situated in the gap of a piston oil control ring, the cam affixed to a shaft secured to a pivot plate positioned within the body of the piston, wherein the pivot plate is adapted to oscillate in a follower-style rocking motion responsive to the rotary movement of a connecting rod boss positioned in close proximity with the plate. In a preferred form, the cam is situated between ends of an expander ring positioned between oil scrapper rails in the bottom groove of the piston.

  • Patent number: 5016524
Abstract: A continuous seal ring member fitted in a ring groove of a piston of a compressor. The seal ring member has a washer-like initial shape with an internal diameter smaller than an outer diameter of the piston, whereby the inner peripheral portion of the seal ring member is expanded when the seal ring member is fitted in the ring groove. The outer peripheral portion of the ring seal member is then axially and inwardly collapsed relative to the inner peripheral portion thereof so that one of the side surfaces of the initial seal ring member constitutes an outer sealing surface for engagement with the cylinder bore and the outer peripheral portion in the original shape is arranged on the side of said compression chamber.

  • Patent number: 4813342
Abstract: A reciprocating pump for a cryogenic fluid includes a pump cylinder made of a material with low thermal expansivity, a piston displaceable in the pump cylinder, and self-lubricating piston rings made of polytetrafluorethylene held on the circumferential surface of the piston. The rings have a larger thermal expansivity than the pump cylinder. The arrangement allows optimum matching of piston rings and pump cylinder at cryogenic fluid pumping temperatures. The piston has a core made of a material with relatively large thermal expansivity which is surrounded by a spacer sleeve made of a material with a low coefficient of thermal expansion. The core protrudes on both sides from the spacer sleeve and has expanding regions increasing conically towards its free ends. The piston rings surround the core in the expanding regions and are supported against the end faces of spacer sleeve. The conical expanding regions bias the rings toward the cylinder at low temperatures to insure effective sealing.

  • Patent number: 4779842
Abstract: There is provided a height adjustable rubber pot bearing for supporting or lifting bridges. The pot bearing has an elastomer plate for transmitting and lifting or lowering loads wherein pressurized fluid is introduced between the bottom of the pot and the elastomer plate to displace the elastomer plate. A narrow slot is provided extending around the plate a small distance from and parallel with the inner side of the pot. The slot opens downwardly and has a depth of three-fourths of the plate thickness. A circular cylindrical insert is provided in the slot consisting of two parallel strips joined at their top edge with a space between them, the bottom edges of the strips being angled at right angles to form edge strips extending parallel with the bottom in opposing directions.

  • Patent number: 4724746
Abstract: A reciprocating machine component, such as a piston of an internal combustion engine or a compressor, is provided with bearing pads for transmitting lateral thrust to an associated guide surface, such as a cylinder or liner. The bearing pads are mounted such that they tilt during reciprocation in order to provide a wedge-shaped lubricant film between the pad and the surface. The mounting is also such as to ensure that the direction of tilt of the pads changes with the direction of reciprocation.

  • Patent number: 4687182
Abstract: A height adjustable pot bearing is provided having a pot, a steel cover plate and an elastic plate of substantially incompressible elastomeric material disposed in and completely filling the pressure chamber defined between the cover plate and the pot. A circumferential slot is provided in the base of the elastic plate radially inwardly from the outer wall of the plate so that a circumferential lip is formed. The pressurized fluid supplied to the pressure chamber of the pot bearing presses against the base of the elastic plate to lift the elastic plate and the cover plate and forces the circumferential lip radially outwardly against the wall of the pot to seal thereagainst.

  • Patent number: 4363606
Abstract: A free piston pump for use in a well for permitting gas to lift fluid to the well surface. The piston pump includes a body which supports a plurality of vertically and horizontally spaced piston segments which are sealingly engaged to form a piston. The segments are radially movable inwardly for allowing the retracted piston pump to move down the well conduit by gravity and are radially movable outwardly for engaging and sealing against the interior of the well conduit whereby gas under pressure lifts the piston and fluid thereabove to the surface. The segments are retracted when the pump reaches the top of the well and the segments are expanded when the pump reaches the bottom of the well. The segments include an inner arcuate surface and a tubular spring member is longitudinally positioned in the body and sealingly engages the inner surfaces.
