With Diaphragm Patents (Class 92/6D)
  • Patent number: 6012378
Abstract: A spring brake actuator (14) includes a housing having first (51) and second (52) housing sections defining a housing interior (53). A support plate (70) is movable between retracted and extended positions relative to the housing and a spring (72) is disposed between the second housing section and a first surface of the support plate for biasing the support plate to the extended position. An actuator rod (60) is operably connected to the support plate (70) at a first end for reciprocal movement with the support plate. Another end of the actuator rod extends through an aperture (64) in the first housing section (51). A flexible diaphragm (358) abuts a second surface of the support plate opposite the first surface and divides the interior of the housing into a first chamber and a second chamber. A surface of the diaphragm is exposed to fluid pressure to thereby force the support plate (70) to the retracted position against the bias of the spring (72).

  • Patent number: 4759222
Abstract: A pressure responsive switch including a case having a pressure inlet and an orifice plate, an amorphous diaphragm and a ferrite core arranged in said case, said ferrite core having a pick-up coil housed therein, in which a pressure introduced into the case acts through the orifice plate against a surface of the amorphous diaphragm and a mechanical deformation of said amorphous diaphragm caused by said pressure is detected as a variation of electrical signal by means of the pick-up coil. The characteristic feature resides in that said orifice plate has a larger area at its side facing the ferrite core than at its opposite side facing the pressure inlet.

  • Patent number: 4653272
Abstract: Fluid actuation device with compensation for wear, particularly for friction clutch mechanisms of the type having a cylinder in which there are placed a first piston resting on a spring and a second piston extended by a declutching control rod, and in which the space between the pistons is filled with an incompressible fluid. The cylinder carries a separation wall between two compartments which house respectively the first and the second pistons. An orifice for communication between said compartments carried by the separation wall is associated with a stopper valve rigidly connected to a membrane that is subjected to a pressure for control and transmission of a thrust force on the cylinder and for driving the control rod.

  • Patent number: 4638721
Abstract: A pressure responsive device suitable for high pressure hydraulic applications has a formed metal disc or diaphragm adapted to move from an original dished configuration toward an inverted dished configuration with snap action in response to the application of a selected fluid pressure. Support means of selected surface radius extend into the space defined by the original dished configuration of the diaphragm to intercept and limit such diaphragm movement to prevent damage to the diaphragm under the applied pressure and to limit stresses in the diaphragm material particularly adjacent to the periphery of the dished part of the diaphragm for improving reliability and service life of the device.

  • Patent number: 4612826
Abstract: A pneumatic throttle valve actuator for an automatic power transmission mechanism for use with a supercharged or turbocharged internal combustion engine wherein the relationship between manifold pressure and actuator force is changed when the engine manifold pressure changes from a positive pressure to a negative pressure or vice-versa. A correct shift point signal and a correct pressure regulator output thus are maintained regardless of whether the turbocharger or supercharger is active or inactive.

  • Patent number: 4486001
Abstract: An air actuated adhesive application control valve using a resilient diaphragm to control reciprocation of the valve stem. Unsupported portions of the diaphragm are supported by a layer of the incompressible adhesive trapped within a fluid cavity adjacent one major surface of the diaphragm. Adhesive is permitted to enter the fluid cavity when the valve is in the closed position, but is prevented from escaping therefrom by a separate valve mechanism carried by the valve stem when the valve is in the opened position. The second valve element also serves as a stop to limit travel of the reciprocating stem, thereby controlling the valve opening clearance.

  • Patent number: 4215625
Abstract: An adjusting drive operated by a pressure medium with a spring-loaded roller diaphragm secured to plates and displaceable within a housing by the pressure medium; the roller diaphragm actuates an adjusting member that is securely connected with a plate and extends out of the housing; in addition to its end positions, the adjusting member is also able to assume at least one intermediate position; the plates are thereby connected with each other by the roller diaphragm while a plate not directly connected with the adjusting member sealingly rests on a ring-shaped abutment projecting out of the inner wall of the housing in the intermediate position of the adjusting member.

  • Patent number: 4147176
Abstract: A diaphragm assembly for the demand regulator of a breathing apparatus utilizes a diaphragm that gradually flattens down against a conical platform so as to reduce the effective sensing area. Advantageously the diaphragm is used in conjunction with an aspirator opening adjusted for maximum aspiration effect at low flow rates. At increased flow rates the reduced sensing area compensates for increased aspiration, insuring stable operation. The diaphragm periphery cooperates with the conical platform outer edge to serve as the regulator exhaust valve.
