    Abstract: A paint mist collecting device for collecting a mist of paint particles produced when a paint is sprayed onto a workpiece within a paint booth includes a tubular duct having one end adapted to be connected to an outlet of the paint booth from which air containing the paint mist and a cleaning air are allowed to flow out, and a swirl-generating guide fin unit disposed inside the tubular duct and configured to force axial flows of the paint-mist-containing air and the cleaning liquid into a rotational movement to thereby generate a helical vortex as the paint-mist-containing air and the cleaning liquid flow downward along the tubular duct.

    Abstract: A scrubber more effectively mixes air or gas with water or a liquid cleaning agent to entrain and thereby clean contaminants from an airflow. An improved baffle-defining structure forces a more complete interaction between the air and water and buffets the mixture into an air/water mixing zone while preventing the water from collecting on an inner surface of the water scrubber and draining down out of the airflow path. A cyclonic, centrifugal dewatering apparatus removes the mist and residual contaminants after the water scrubbing removes most of the contaminants from the air.

    Abstract: A discrete pod gas scrubber system for removing contaminants from the air of a work area, such as a paint spray booth. Each scrubber pod includes an inlet section having opposed converging planar walls and side walls, an intermediate section having opposed diverging walls and side walls communicating with the inlet section through a reduced diameter venturi, and an outlet section having a bottom wall perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the scrubber pod, a diverging top wall and an end wall. The end wall includes an orifice opening and orifice plates for adjusting the orifice opening and the combined lengths of the aligned scrubber pods are between fifty and ninety percent of the total length of the scrubber system, more preferably between sixty percent and eighty five percent of the total length. The scrubber system of this invention significantly reduces the noise generated in the work area normally located above the gas scrubber system.

The water curtain serves to capture and remove air suspended dust and fiber particles from ambient air. The device is positioned transversely to the motion of a paper web underneath the web between a drying cylinder and a rewinder. The water curtain device is utilized in conjunction with air flow devices for assisting in controlling the collection of air suspended dust and fiber particles from the ambient air.

    Abstract: Apparatus for removing odor from the air exhaust of animal confinement buildings is described. One embodiment of the apparatus includes a plenum housing attached to an existing exhaust fan on an animal confinement building. The plenum housing has an entrance and an exit, and houses a baffle having a roughened surface. Water is delivered to the baffle surface by spray headers which are configured to spray water from a top edge of the baffle. A water curtain is generated by spray nozzles at the plenum housing exit. A trough is configured to collect a water effluent from a bottom edge of the baffle. In use and according to the methods described, an air stream consisting of exhaust air from an animal confinement building is directed toward the water-flooded baffle surface. Odor particles in the air stream impinge on the baffle surface and are adsorbed by the water. The air stream continues to flow past the baffle surface and through the water screen at the plenum housing exit.

    Abstract: A dry pump (32) has an inlet connected to the oven (10) for the purpose of establishing the desired low pressure conditions inside the oven and for extracting residual gas therefrom, a hydrolysis reactor (50) is connected to an outlet of the dry pump in order to receive residual gases coming from the oven, the hydrolysis reactor includes a first outlet (52) for solid deposits or for acid solutions coming from hydrolysis of the gases it receives, and it has a second outlet (54) for gas which is connected to the atmosphere. Gas injection means (46, 48) are located between the inlet of the dry pump (32) and the hydrolysis reactor (50) to prevent any backflow from the hydrolysis reactor towards the pump. Water feed means (74, 76) are connected to the hydrolysis reactor (50), at least via the second outlet (54) thereof, in order to put into solution the acid vapors that come from the hydrolysis reactor, thereby avoiding discharging them in the atmosphere.

    Abstract: A contacting grate or panel for mass transfer or heat exchange comprising a substantially rectangular supporting framework having two connecting frame members extending along opposite side edges and a number of elongate supporting frame members extending between the connecting frame members. A series of small, parallel plates are mounted along each of the supporting frame members and each plate is relatively short. The grate has two relatively large and opposite sides and the planes in which the plates lie are perpendicular to these two opposite sides. Preferably, each plate lies in a plane which extends at an acute angle of less than 90 degrees to a longitudinal central axis of its respectively supporting frame member. A number of these grates can be connected together at their corners to form a module.
