Abstract: A particulate filtration apparatus for exhaust, combustion or other gases includes an enclosure for the output of a flow of such gases, prior to their release into the outside environment. An internal duct crossed by the flow and affected by a perforated conducting plate is kept at a negative electrical potential, for emission and dispersion in the duct of electrons coupled to polluting particles carried by the flow and substantially constituting the particulate, consequently giving them a negative electrical charge. Along the duct downstream of the perforated plate is an accumulation plate, kept at a positive electrical potential, for the attraction and stable adhesion of the electrically charged particles on the accumulation plate. A conducting filament at a negative electrical potential adjacent at least one opening of the perforated plate is a primary source of emission and dispersion of electrons which are coupled to particles carried by the flow.

The provision of the electrostatic filter on the foam filter eliminates the possibility of dust initially retained by but later released from the foam filter escaping from the first filter portion.

  • Patent number: 6679940
Abstract: When an ionization section is taken out of a main body housing of a conventional air cleaner in order to wash the ionization section, an ionization line may be cut by being accidentally touched. In order to avoid this problem, a pre-filter (7) is mounted on a front surface of an ionization and dust collection unit (6) so as to be detachable. The pre-filter (7) is slidably guided by guide furrings (23) in a sub-frame (12), and is mounted on a front surface of the sub-frame (12). When the pre-filter (7) is mounted, ionization lines (15) are not exposed, so that the pre-filter (7) protects the ionization lines (15). When the ionization and dust collection unit (6) is detached from the main body housing, therefore, there is no problem that the ionization lines (15) might be cut by being accidentally touched with worker's hands, for example.

  • Patent number: 6471754
Abstract: A purification system for preventing secondhand tobacco smoke from reaching an ambient environment thereabout. Two components of the system include a smoke entrapment intake hood for aggregating the secondhand smoke and an electrostatic suction filter assembly in communication with the entrapment hood for extracting aggregated smoke from the hood, removing untoward particulate from the smoke, and releasing resulting clean air to the environment. The filter assembly includes at least one particulate filter for collecting smoke-borne particulate and at least one appropriately charged or grounded plate for electrostatically collecting charged smoke-borne particulate. An exit port from the filter assembly permits the release of so-cleaned air to the environment as a negative-ion emitter, positioned immediately inside the exit port, introduces charged ions into the cleansed air.
