  • Patent number: 7252033
Abstract: A coffee maker includes a valve mechanism having a micro switch, an electromagnetic valve, a magnetic covering board activated by the electromagnetic valve for opening or closing a powder path, and a spring interconnecting the covering board and the electromagnetic valve. A motor-driven grinding mechanism includes two ring-shaped outer grinding members having teeth facing each other, and a spring biased inner grinding member including a hollow feed rod with a lead screw formed thereon. A powder fineness adjusting mechanism includes an adjustment lever. In a powder fineness adjustment for producing coarse coffee powder, pivoting the lever toward one direction will pivot an abutment member and move the same outward to push one grinding member for increasing a space between the grinding members filled with coffee beans to be ground. Pivoting the lever toward the other direction will produce fine coffee powder.

  • Patent number: 7228796
Abstract: Embodiments of subcombination and the fruit extraction device of the present invention provide for fruit juice extraction where synchronized and concentric elements press a fruit, such as an orange, without crushing the peel, by this avoiding the dispersion of acids from the peel, favoring the retention of juice having lower acid levels. Embodiments of the subcombination and the fruit extraction device of which it is a portion shear the peel in multiple slivers, at the same time compressing the fruit. In an exemplary embodiment, a subcombination comprises a fixed and a mobile peeler, each having radially extending blades that form a space within which a fruit may be positioned for juice extraction, and a perforating filtering tube within the fixed peeler, and a piston adapted to pass through the lumen of the perforating filtering tube to cyclically clean it of the residues of a compressed fruit prior to extraction of the next fruit.

  • Patent number: 7000534
Abstract: Modular fruit juice extraction apparatuses and systems are provided that comprise, for example, a linear actuator (2) effective to drive, by back and forth motion, a moveable peeler cup (4) in communication with each of two ends of the extraction apparatus. In such embodiment, each moveable peeler cup (4), comprising concave and radially cut hemispheres, moves against a respective fixed peeler cup (3), and thereby compresses a fruit (19) contained therein to obtain its juice, which passes through a filtering device (7) disposed in each respective fixed peeler cup (3). A plunger (8) is variously driven through the filtering device (7) to remove the fruit core (13). Other embodiments include an embodiment in which a linear actuator (202) drives both external moveable peeler cups (203) and internal moveable peeler cups (204).

  • Publication number: 20030121422
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting optimally sized fruit and vegetable pieces, such as potatoes, that is made of a dump chute, a trough, a conveyor having paddles forming paddle pockets, a drive means, at least one sensor, a programmable logic controller (PLC), and a cutter assembly. The dump chute receives materials and loads them singly onto a conveyor within a paddle pocket disposed along the conveyor. The drive means moves the conveyor, which then advances the material from the dump chute toward the cutter. As the material moves along the trough, the sensor determines the first and second ends of the potato and inputs this information to the PLC. This PLC has a human interactive component for selecting the criteria to be used in selecting the dimensions of the desired potato pieces to be obtained. The PLC receives the information from the sensors and determines the number and sizes of the pieces that the potato should be cut into to achieve the optimal results based upon the pre-selected criteria.

  • Patent number: 4936204
Abstract: A citrus fruit segmenter which uses a slicing lever mounted with a blade which is attached to the sidewalls of a frame by another pair of levers. The slicing lever with the blade nudges a resiliently biased crank lever which intermittently rotates a ratchet wheel upon which a cup is mounted to carry a half of grapefruit or large orange. The crank lever has a tooth element designed to engage the toothed ratchet wheel and to retract when working against a locking pawl. The tooth element is also resiliently biased. The resilient biasing of the crank lever and the toothed element are accomplished by corrosion-resistant "O" rings. All of the elements of the device are made of corrosion-resistant material. The blade is made of stainless steel, the frame and levers are made of synthetic resinous material.

  • Patent number: 4917007
Abstract: A juicing apparatus includes a conveyor for delivering citrus fruit to the top of a truncated cone. The top of the cone defines a circular knife with a tube extending concentrically from the circular knife and through the convex cone. The fruit is centered on the convex cone by deflectable centering supports. A plurality of radially aligned knives are directed toward the upper portion of the convex cone. A concave cone is movably disposed over the fruit and over the convex cone. Downward movement of the concave cone causes a central cylindrical plug to be cut from each fruit and gently juiced in the tube extending from the circular knife. Further downward movement of the concave cone urges the fruit into the radially aligned knives and cuts the fruit into sections that can be squeezed and wiped against the outer surface of the convex cone.

  • Patent number: 4700620
Abstract: Disclosed is a citrus fruit extractor of the type wherein a whole fruit is positioned in one of opposed interfitting cup halves which are provided with means for cutting the skin or rind at diametrically opposed areas. Concurrent movement of one or both cups toward each other compresses the fruit and produces the diametrically opposed cuts. Cutting and compressing ruptures the juice sacks and the juice flows through one of the cut areas of the skin, through a screen and to a collecting trough. In its path to the trough, the juice makes little or no contact with the freshly cut surfaces of the skin.

Abstract: A mill roll for a juice extracting system having a plurality of circumferential grooves and a plurality of spiral flow passages extending from end to end below the surface of the roll. A plurality of holes around each circumferential groove open into the flow passages so that juice squeezed between the rolls flows through the holes and out the spiral passages. With the passages disposed spirally, the rolls may be used as the bottom roll in a three roll mill because juice squeezed between the top roll and a bottom roll and flowing into a channel will exit below the restraining flange normally provided on the top roll.

  • Patent number: 4470344
Abstract: Peel oil is extracted from whole citrus fruit by means of a plurality of parallel horizontal toothed rolls. The toothed rolls define bights between them for reception and support of whole citrus fruit. Each roll comprises a shaft carrying a series of thin parallel rings each ring having a continuous series of pointed teeth on its periphery. A motor rotates the rolls in the same direction at different speeds. Water spray nozzles are spaced above the rolls to deliver relatively coarse sprays against the outer surface of each whole citrus fruit to carry away peel oil produced by the pointed teeth of the rings.
