By Hulling Means Patents (Class 99/602)
  • Publication number: 20140356513
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for producing rice from paddy. The process comprises a hulling procedure for brown rice, which includes procedures of dampening, and stirred debranning. The dampening procedure involves using a dampener (13) to add water accounting for 0.5-2.5% of the weight of the brown rice material to the brown rice material, with the water temperature being 10-60?; and after the dampening procedure, the brown rice is conveyed to the procedure of stirred debranning within 10 min to be processed. During the procedure of stirred debranning, the height of the brown rice is controlled to be 0.3-2 m, and a stirrer is employed for stirring; and the linear velocity of the stirrer rod of the stirrer is controlled to be 1-6 m/s. The process uses a method of stirred debranning for debranning the brown rice, such that the acting forces on the brown rice grains are relatively small and uniform, thereby improving the removal rate of the hull of the brown rice and reducing the yield rate of broken rice.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system for dehusking grains, in particular for removing the spelts and/or the seed coat and the germ bud of grains and/or of malted grains and its processing in the brewing industry. The outer layers/shells are removed from cleaned and malted distiller's grains in a husking machine (20).

  • Publication number: 20090068332
Abstract: A seed shucking appliance for separating seed coverings from their kernels comprises a vertical cylinder within which is rotated an upward pointing and rotating cone. The top surfaces of the cone and the inside surfaces of the cylinder are roughened to catch and grate the skins or hulls off water-softened beans or grains poured in from above. The clearances and textures between the roughened cone and inside cylinder are such that most of the skins or shells stay above the cone after being knocked loose, and the bared seed kernels drop down through without necessarily being ground up or smashed. What drops through is sent to a water bath where any remaining skins or shells are floated away. The bared seed kernels are drained and ready to be used as whole seed kernels in various kinds of foods.

Abstract: In a horizontal grinding-type rice polishing machine which is so configured that a grinding roller (1) installed circularly and fixedly on a horizontal rotation axis (10) is covered with a concentric cylindrical bran removing screen (S) that can be split into longitudinal two screen halves (2) to thereby form a rice polishing room, the total of even number of a stopper (3) and a flap (4) are fixedly provided on an inner peripheral surface of each of two-part split screen halves (2) of the bran removing screen (S) so that they align alternately in the axial direction, the stopper (3) and the flap (4) being formed by a circular arc member which curves along the circumference of a circular cross section perpendicular to the axial center of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5773066
Abstract: Raw wheat grains are polished after being subjected to a first water addition and being tempered, and the polished wheat grains are ground after being subjected to a second water addition and being tempered. The first water addition is to cause the raw wheat grains to have a water content of 12-14%. The tempering of the raw wheat grains is performed for 16-36 hours so that the water sufficiently penetrate into the inside of the raw wheat grains. The method of flouring includes the steps of measuring a water content of the flour obtained by the grinding of the grains, comparing the amount of the measured water content with a predetermined target water content of the flour, and adjusting the amount of water to be added during the second water addition if there is a difference between the measured water content and the predetermined target water content.

  • Patent number: 5232697
Abstract: Processes for dehusking psyllium seeds to obtain high yields of high purity psyllium seed husk. These processes comprise milling intact psyllium seeds in a mill which causes the husk to be fragmented by collision under conditions whereby the husk is fractured and separated from the non-husk portion of the psyllium seed without substantial breakage and size reduction of the non-husk portion. Preferred milling utilizes impact speeds within the range of from about 5 m/sec to about 40 m/sec.

  • Patent number: 4301183
Abstract: A method and apparatus for utilizing a horizontal disc having a plurality of guide vanes extending in a curvilinear path with each vane terminating in an end portion that is substantially parallel to a tangent to the disc. A plurality of impact surfaces are provided in the same horizontal plane as the disc with each surface being substantially linear and extending transversely of the path of travel of a kernel impelled by the disc. The method includes locating the impact surfaces away from the periphery of the disc a sufficient distance so as to preclude application of crushing forces to the kernels as the latter pass between the disc and the surface. The kernels are fed onto the disc at a point near its center from an overhead position at a carefully controlled rate whereby each kernel is aligned by centrifugal forces as it moves along the guide vane so as to expose one of the side edges of the kernel for contact with one of the impact surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4189503
Abstract: A degerminating process wherein the grain kernels are crushed from the thin edges toward the center while avoiding crushing of the relatively flat side surfaces. The crushing force fractures the endosperm under and around the germ and squeezes the germ away from the endosperm in a whole condition. A machine for carrying out the degermination includes relatively rotating discs having corrugations in their facing surfaces in which the kernels are caught and crushed from the thin edges toward the center. An alternative degerminator machine includes a single rotating disc having curved guide vanes on its upper surface for guiding the kernels as they are propelled outwardly by centrifugal force. The vanes orient each kernel with its top or bottom edge in position to impinge upon flat impact surfaces which results in a crushing force applied from the thin edge toward the center of the kernel.
