Abstract: As set forth herein, computer-implemented methods and systems facilitate watermarking documents and/or images using 2nd generation stochastic halftoning. The watermark is used to spatially vary the gray level at which a frequency modulation-to-amplitude modulation transition occurs. The encoding algorithm uses as inputs a contone image and a watermark. The visibility of the watermark is controlled by the magnitude of the difference between the AM-to-FM transition threshold values.

Abstract: A method for copy protection includes providing audiovisual or audio data stored in sectors of a record carrier having a file system, and providing additional data to be stored in further sectors. The method includes generating first and second files referencing respective first and second parts of the sectors and respective further first and second parts of the further sectors, so when the first and second files are completely rendered by a playback device, respective first and second parts of the data and respective further first and second parts of the additional data are reproduced. The method also includes determining program instructions, which when executed by the playback device, control switching between reading the first file and the second file, and when the record carrier is an original, switching is controlled so only the sectors and none of the further sectors are read such that no additional data is reproduced.

A system and tools are used by the consumer to identify, authenticate, disable, and confirm disablement in exchange for compensation, the acquisition of new usage rights to content, or the ability to restore access to or copy content to new media. The process may be conducted by the consumer in the field without assistance and or visual inspection, or be partially conducted in conjunction with an authorized intermediary. Furthermore, the process may restore access to content stored on new media without the need to transfer copies of content.

The method also includes capturing an image of a label on a first side of the master disc. The method also includes generating a data image of data stored on the master disc. The method also includes making one or more copies of the master disc using one or more blank discs. Making the one or more copies includes recording the data image onto a data side of each of the one or more blank discs and printing the image of the label on an opposing side of each of the one or more blank discs.

The marker transmitted is detected from the bit strips to be decrypted and analyzed by the encoded key to determine whether the copy is permitted or not, so that the detected marker is updated to be recorded on a video tape and the control word is produced from the marker to perform the descrambling to supply the result to a monitor to be displayed.
