  • Patent number: 7874315
Abstract: A multi-channel, multi-phase flow metering valve has multiple pintle valves for metering liquid media through each valve channel. The valve channels have venturi passageways that alone, or in cooperation with the pintles, cause the local pressure of the media to fall below its saturated vapor pressure and allow the liquid media to change phase. The cavitation creates a gaseous region, formed from one or many discrete cavities, in the media within valve channels that effectively isolates the pressures in the upstream and downstream parts of the valve channels to reduce the affects of input pressure fluctuations in the output media. The valve components, particularly the modules defining the venturi passageways, are made of a high-strength material to better resist pitting and other surface erosion from sonic shock associated with the collapse of the gaseous cavities.

  • Patent number: 5169125
Abstract: A gate valve provides an efficient and effective seal from high pressures to pressure differentials below 50 psi through a self-aligning gate of reduced mass (semi-gate). The invention provides a transmission between the gate and stem which permits its sealing surface to remain normal to the relative surface of the seat irrespective of pressure, circulation rate, or flow medium (gas or liquid). This is accomplished through the full floating nut element which, when loosely engaged to the stem and inserted into an oversized slot at the upper end of the semi-gate, allows the gate to move axially in the direction of flow without interfering with the vertical movement of the gate by the stem. This feature is accomplished by introducing a clearance between the stem and nut. The gate is of reduced mass to allow a more instantaneous response to pressure transients because of its lighter weight and reduced profile.

  • Patent number: 5118078
Abstract: A fully sealing butterfly valve throttles flow rates through a flow channel and completely ceases flow. A throttle plate rotates into a close position and then moves axially to seat against a seal. The axial movement directly corresponds to rotation of an actuator shaft to improve valve control for the entire range of throttle plate movement from a full open position to a seal position. Additionally, the present butterfly valve employs a self-centering throttle plate adapted to float within the valve central bore. The throttle plate adjusts its positioning about an annular seal to achieve an effective seal entirely around its circumference.

  • Patent number: 5054455
Abstract: The evaporative emission control system for an internal combustion engine purges the vapor collection canister to the throttle body through both a purge regulator controlled by the engine ECU and a variable orifice valve that is mechanically operated by the throttle mechanism. A throttle position sensor that supplies a throttle position signal to the ECU can be read by the ECU as also representing the degree of restriction being imposed by the variable orifice on the flow of vapor from the canister to the throttle body and the ECU can take this into account when setting the purge regulator. A novel construction for the purge regulator, particularly the connection between the actuator and the valve, precludes the transmission of any significant bending moment from the movable wall of the actuator to the valve. The head of the valve is designed to also contribute to improved operation.

  • Patent number: 5033505
Abstract: A pressure regulator includes a hermetically sealed housing that limits the potential for leak paths to atmosphere or exterior to the housing. The regulator includes a dampening arrangement for limiting oscillations during high flow rates. A stem clip secures a poppet assembly to a movable member of the regulator. The stem clip permits radial movement of the poppet assembly to facilitate centering of the poppet assembly relative to a valve seat. The poppet assembly includes a self-tapping poppet to precisely set the opening between the poppet and valve seat irrespective of tolerance stackup.

  • Patent number: 4901827
Abstract: There is disclosed a slide type exhaust brake system including a housing accommodating a valve member formed with a plurality of exhaust pressure adjusting holes and having its intermediate beam wall formed with an exhaust pressure escape hole, and a piston rod to which an auxiliary valve mechanism composed of a support frame and a liner is locked. The end portions, bent upwards, of the liner are laid along the peripheral wall portions of the frame to prevent the exhaust gas from escaping from the adjusting holes, thereby eliminating an incipient delay in braking. The liner closes the exhaust pressure adjusting holes when closing an exhaust passageway by the valve member which is at the same time thrust forwards. When opening the exhaust passageway, the liner opens the adjusting holes, while the valve member is moved backwards. The liner surface is also formed with at least one through-hole.

  • Patent number: 4810471
Abstract: A vacuum manifold for solid phase extraction of a plurality of liquid samples from reagent tubes removably connected by valves to a vacuum chamber through a removable vacuum tight cover closing. A plurality of parallel flow paths are provided through the cover for the flow of liquid samples into the vacuum chamber, through a plurality of valves rotatable about an axis parallel to the general direction of flow through the cover to provide flow adjustment and closing of the valves. A valve is also provided for attaching the vacuum chamber to a vacuum source to create a vacuum therein. An optional attachment is provided permitting treatment of materials with nitrogen or other gases using a manifold plate attached to a source of gas and providing a plurality of valve control means axially aligned to couple with the rotatable valves for passage of liquid into the vacuum chamber.

  • Patent number: 4759331
Abstract: In an electromagnetically actuatable fuel-injection valve for injection systems of internal-combustion engines, the valve has an electromagnet, an armature, and a closure element which is operatively connected to a spring and the armature. The closure element is connected to a valve needle by a connection permitting displacement perpendicularly to the axis of the valve needle. The closure element, which has the shape of a spherical segment, is preferably displaceable while overcoming static friction so that automatic adjustment takes place only upon being placed initially in operation, and upon subsequent changes in mating surfaces of closure element and valve seat.

  • Patent number: 4753262
Abstract: A roll-over vent valve for an automobile fuel tank comprises a novel means for minimizing the force required to re-open a corked shut-off element. The disclosed embodiment comprises a thin, slightly pliable, circular disc for the shut-off element which seats against an annular seat to close the vent passage in the event of roll-over. If the pressure in the tank headspace is sufficiently positive and the disc is closed against the seat in the absence of roll-over, an extra force is required to unseat the disc because of the pressure differential acting on the seated disc. The magnitude of force required to unseat the disc is significantly attenuated in the present invention by having the force act over a limited circumferential extent of the sealing contact of the disc against the seat. This peels the disc from the seat with complete unseating being accomplished by causing the force to act progressively around the perimeter of the disc.

A second valve member selectively blocks and unblocks the second outlet port. A first device urges the first valve member. A second device urges the second valve member. • Patent number: 4679727
Abstract: A thermostatic steam trap is described wherein a thermostatic actuating means including a valve is mounted for axial movement of the valve into and away from sealing contact with a valve seat positioned axially of the hollow cylindrical body of the steam trap by a circular baffle which loosely engages both the actuating means and portions of the body of the steam trap. The baffle is oriented transversely of the hollow cylindrical body at the inlet end of the steam trap and has nonarcuate segments formed upon its periphery, thereby causing diversion of the steam flow away from direct impingement upon the thermostatic actuating means, while ensuring good heat transfer to the thermostatic actuating means. This construction provides for a self-centering steam trap valve.
