Patent number: 5132073Abstract: A corrugated elastomeric tube having a smooth interior surface (28) generally free from nipples is produced. A first step in the process is carried out by positioning an unvulcanized elastomeric tubing (14) over a mandrel (12) having a corrugated outer surface (13). The mandrel (12) has an exterior surface (30) which is free from holes. Next, each end of the tubing (14) is clamped to the mandrel (12). The tubing (14) and the mandrel (12) are heated to soften and vulcanizing the tubing (14). Also, pressure is provided to cause the tubing (14) to conform with the corrugated outer surface (13) of the mandrel (12). The vulcanized corrugated tube is then removed from the mandrel (12).Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1990Date of Patent: July 21, 1992Assignee: Cadillac Rubber & Plastics, Inc.Inventor: David L. Patent number: 4798607Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing a medical prosthesis by forming the prosthesis from an uncrosslinked polyurethane and then at least partially crosslinking the polyurethane with a vaporizable halo alkylisocyanate. The haloalkylisocyanate (e.g. chloromethylisocyanate) is reacted with the uncrosslinked polyurethane at a temperature which will not degrade or soften the polyurethane, (in its uncrosslinked form) in order to crosslink the polyurethane.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1987Date of Patent: January 17, 1989Inventors: Ian P. Patent number: 4647418Abstract: A process for the manufacture of glass fiber-reinforced polyester products is disclosed. A ready-to-mold resin and reinforcement composite is prepared using an initiator which has been microencapsulated in order to prevent initiator-induced cross-linking of the resin reactants. The initiator is released during the molding of the composite by rupture of the microcapsules due to internal vapor pressure developed at a preselected molding temperature. The encapsulation of the initiator provides improved homogeneity and increased flowability of the composites during molding, and enables the provision of molded polyester products having higher degrees of cure and more defect-free finish surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1985Date of Patent: March 3, 1987Inventor: John R. McDougal

Patent number: 4104428Abstract: A pile product comprising a plurality of relatively long, thin face fibers extending from a base is molded from a crosslinkable polymeric material. During formation of the fibers, crosslinking of the polymeric material is initiated by heat activating a substance incorporated in the polymeric material which promotes crosslinking. Crosslinking imparts hot strength to the pile fibers so that the pile product, while still hot, can be removed from the mold without materially deforming the fibers. Consequently, the time it takes to mold the pile product is significantly reduced, thereby increasing productivity and lowering the cost of the product. Moreover energy is conserved because the mold is not continuously cycled between high and low extremes in temperature.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1974Date of Patent: August 1, 1978Assignee: Brunswick CorporationInventor: William Chang Liu
