  • Patent number: 10006256
Abstract: Provided is a safety joint with a moveable seal designed to prevent hydrostatic locking. The safety joint is primarily made up assembling a pin end having a first seal, a threaded connection, and a second, moveable seal to a box end. The moveable seal is disposed in a recess formed in the pin end and includes an O-ring and a spring. When the safety joint is assembled downhole, a volume of fluid may become trapped between the first seal and the second seal. The trapped fluid in turn pushes the O-ring towards the spring, thereby limiting pressure build-up by substantially maintaining the volume trapped between the first and second seals.

  • Patent number: 9810029
Abstract: Drill string components having a thread extending around a body that have a configuration that resists jamming and cross-threading. A leading end of the thread includes a planar surface normal to the body that provides an abrupt transition to full thread depth to help reduce or eliminate cross-threading. When complementary male and female threads are similarly structured, the mating threads slide together along an interface at the thread start face and are drawn into a fully thread-coupled condition.

  • Publication number: 20130154253
Abstract: A fluid coupling capable of reliably finding absence of the gasket, if exists, in the leak test is provided. Butted end surfaces of coupling members 1, 2 have annular sealing protrusions 7, 8 and anti-overfastening annular protrusions 9, 10 protruded further than the annular sealing protrusions 7, 8, respectively. At least one of the anti-overfastening annular protrusions 9, 10 has a communication path 31 or 32 communicating internal space Si with external space So when both the anti-overfastening annular protrusions 9, 10 butt against each other.

  • Patent number: 7954857
Abstract: An assembly comprises a multi-use torque fitting and a length of tubing. The torque fitting generally comprises a threaded body portion and a torque-limiting body portion, wherein the threaded body portion and the torque-limiting body portion are arranged substantially concentrically along a longitudinal axis of the fitting. The length of tubing, meanwhile, generally comprises a compressible seal formed at its end. Generally, the torque fitting is configured to couple the length of tubing to a fluid port in a hermetically sealed or substantially leak-proof manner by providing a degree of compression to the compressible seal of the length of tubing sufficient to prevent substantial fluid leakage at the tube/port interface.

  • Patent number: 7832076
Abstract: An improved seal and method for providing a watertight compression joint connection between a valve or fitting and a flare end of a copper tubing in a water service. The improvement includes an O-ring seal on a bull nose end of a valve and a frictional material inserted into straight AWWA threads on a male inlet or outlet of the valve to sealingly engage a flared end of the copper tubing to the bull nose end and to frictionally engage a flare nut with the tubing back onto the matching bull nose end of the valve when screwing the flare nut onto the male threads of the valve, respectively.

  • Patent number: 7360800
Abstract: A one-piece unitary compression clamp for securing a pipe or tube on a fitting. The clamp may include at least one inward deformation that provides an interference fit between the clamp and the pipe or tube. Consequently, the clamp cannot fall off the pipe or tube before being permanently crimped, and the fitting is prevented from falling out of the tube. In a second embodiment, the clamp includes an ear for crimping the clamp to the tube, and a tongue within the clamp and overlying the mouth of the ear to provide uniform compression around the entire tube.

  • Patent number: 5024467
Abstract: A device for coupling elements which are connected in line and which elements are carried by opposing holding plates wherein one of the plates is urged toward the other and threadingly locked with respect thereto by a rotating shaft having a threaded end portion which is engagable with a threaded member associated with the other plate and wherein the advancement of the threaded shaft is resiliently retarded in order to permit a proper meshing of the threaded elements upon their initial engagement.

  • Patent number: 4865364
Abstract: A connector for connecting two pipes has threads configured to improve making up in severe motion conditions. The connector includes a pin and a box, each having frusto-conical surfaces with helical threads formed on them. The threads have multiple starts for rapid make up. The crest of each thread is truncated and is a frusto-conical surface. This frusto-conical surface is inverted to the frusto-conical surface of the portions of the pin and box that contain threads. Each thread has a load flank and a stabbing flank. The stabbing flank inclines and joins a link flank, which in turn joins a root. The link flank inclines at a different and steeper angle than the stabbing flank.

  • Patent number: 4697830
Abstract: A guide for protecting threads and seals when joining lengths of production tubing has a guiding portion made of two semicyclindrical polypropylene elements, which when placed together have an annular cross section and form a funnel-like upper end. A strap made of two generally semicircular halves fits within an outer recess on the surfaces of the guiding elements. Abutting edges of the strap halves are constructed with interfitting projections and a central recess for a torsion spring. A hinge pin extends through the projections and the torsion spring. Opposite edges of the strap halves have central recesses to receive a latch. Pins extend axially through the recesses. A latch is pivoted on one pin and engages the other pin when the latch is closed. Handles fit in diametrically opposite circular recesses between the hinge pin and latch pins. The handles are secured by large bolts having heads which engage internal recesses in the guide halves.
