  • Patent number: 6712967
Abstract: A filter element assembly has at least two cylindrically shaped and concentrically arranged filter media sleeves each connected at one end thereof to an inlet plate and each connected at the other end to a closed end terminal plate. Openings are provided in the inlet plate to permit entry of liquid to be filtered into the annular space between the filter sleeves. The closed end terminal plate prevents flow of unfiltered liquid from the annular space between the sleeves so as to force the liquid through the porous media of the sleeves to effect filtration. The inlet plate includes a central area that is recessed in relation to its outer edge to define an inlet chamber capped by a planar housing lid. The inlet chamber communicates with the inlet conduit via an opening in the central area.

  • Patent number: 6706198
Abstract: A method for filtering liquid includes directing the feed liquid into an annular space between concentrically arranged filter sleeves formed of flexible bag filter type filtration media. The liquid enters the annular space via openings formed in an inlet plate attached to the sleeves. The central area of the inlet plate is closed to prevent flow of unfiltered liquid into the cylindrical space defined by the innermost filter sleeve, whereby all liquid entering the filter assembly is filtered by the sleeves.

  • Patent number: 6585892
Abstract: A concentric arrangement of bag-type filter sleeves 11, 12 of a filter insert are removably supported within a concentric arrangement of screens 60, 61 of an annularly-shaped basket 10a. The screens respectively support the filter sleeves against radial flow during filtration. A filter cartridge 37 is carried interiorly of the innermost filter sleeve and is configured to filter the liquid that has first been filtered in the filter insert and before the liquid can exit the filter vessel 30.

  • Patent number: 6585893
Abstract: A filter insert includes a plurality of annularly-shaped, bag-type filter sleeves (111, 112, 113) concentrically-arranged. The ends of the sleeves are attached to the flanges of an inlet plate 114, an annular terminal plate 124 or a circular terminal plate 121 (e.g. by ultrasonic welding). The filter insert is removably placed within a basket such that concentrically-arranged screens (160, 161, 163) of the basket support respective filter sleeves against radial flow during filtration.

  • Patent number: 6020823
Abstract: A package wrap for decoratively covering a container having side walls defining an interior space for carrying a product therein, includes a flexible thin sheet of polymeric material adapted to be shrink-wrapped onto the exterior of the container. An illuminating or a sound producing device is positioned between the flexible thin sheet of polymeric material and the exterior of the container so that when the flexible sheet of polymeric material is shrink-wrapped onto the container, the illuminating device or the sound device will be held securely in place. The illuminating device is adapted to be illuminated upon activation by a pressure, motion, or acoustically sensitive switch. The sound device is adapted to produce an audible signal upon activation by a pressure or motion sensitive switch. When the illuminating device is activated, illumination therefrom will be visible through the flexible thin sheet of polymeric material to enhance and highlight a printed pattern on the exterior of the package wrap.

  • Patent number: 5163419
Abstract: The present invention includes a generally U-shaped body member having opposed leg portions joined by a central section. Each leg portion is connected to the central section at a pivot point for pivotal movement toward and away from each other. The body member is made of a resilient material having spring-like qualities to urge the legs away from each other. Each leg portion also has a distal end remote from the pivot points. Grooves are provided at at least three positions on the body member for engaging the inner edges of the iris of the human eye when the body member is inserted into the pupillary area. A receptor hole is located at each of the distal ends for receiving manipulative devices for causing the leg portions to be moved toward and away from each other between an expanded and a collapsed position. When the body member is in the collapsed position it may be inserted through an opening in the human eye for engagement with the iris for expansion of the pupillary area.

  • Patent number: 4807652
Abstract: A comb for removing lice and nits from the hair is formed by a base and a plurality of teeth extending from the base in substantially the same direction. The longitudinal axis of each tooth is parallel to the longitudinal axis of each other tooth. Each tooth has a polygonal cross sectional shape such as in the form of a modified triangle. The cross sectional dimensions of each tooth enlarge from the free end of each tooth toward the base so that the spacing between adjacent teeth narrows toward the base. The facing edges of adjacent teeth interact with each other to capture lice and nits therebetween. A rib is provided longitudinally along one of the faces of each tooth.

The longitudinal axis of each tooth is parallel to the longitudinal axis of each other tooth. Each tooth has a polygonal cross section shape such as in the form of a diamond. The cross sectional dimensions of each tooth enlarge from the free end of each tooth toward the base so that the spacing between adjacent teeth narrows toward the base. The facing edges of adjacent teeth interact with each other to capture, in a scissor-like manner, lice and nits therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4520815
Abstract: A hand supported instrument for assisting in the formation of ophthalmological incisions includes a plate member which has a bottom surface adapted to rest upon the surface of the human eye. The bottom surface is curved so as to conform to the normally curved surface of the human eye. A longitudinally-oriented slot extends through the plate so as to serve as a guide for a knife blade intended to be positioned in the slot. The plate member also has a top surface which is spaced from the bottom surface by the thickness of the plate. In this manner, the top surface serves to limit the penetration of the knife blade through the slot. The thickness of the plate will vary from a minimum at one end of the slot to a maximum at the other end of the slot. In this fashion, the plate will serve as a template to control the depth of incision formed by the knife blade extending through the slot. A handle is connected to the plate at the thicker end of the plate so that it can be held in position for use.

  • Patent number: 4437546
Abstract: A fire escape device includes a housing with a reel journalled for rotational movement within the housing. A cable is fixed at one end thereof to the reel and is wound upon the reel with the other end thereof extending through an opening in the housing. The housing can be connected to a fixed position on an elevated structure and a harness which is carried at the free end of the cable is used for supporting a human body. A fluid pump is carried by the housing for pumping fluid from a sump reservoir through an orifice. The rotor of the pump is coupled with the reel for retarding and impeding free rotational movement of the reel so that the cable unwinds at a controlled rate of speed which is in direct proportion to the amount of fluid being pumped through the orifice.

  • Patent number: 4340059
Abstract: A hand-held surgical instrument for performing ophthalmological incisions in the form of radial slits about the cornea, which are particularly suited for surgery to correct the effects of myopia or astigmatism. The instrument includes a fixation assembly having a pair of elongated arms for placement on the globe of the eye. A prong is carried at one end of each arm for insertion into the globe of the eye so that the surgeon may hold the eye in a fixed position. A linkage assembly is connected at one end to the fixation assembly and a knife assembly is connected to the other end of the linkage assembly for indexing movement about a pivot point. The knife assembly includes a knife blade holder and a knife blade carried in the holder. The blade holder is mounted for sliding movement toward and away from the pivot point so that the cutting edge of the blade will penetrate the eye to form radial slits upon the application of sufficient hand pressure.

  • Patent number: 4275733
Abstract: The ophthalmological surgical instrument of the present invention is used for stabilizing a patient's eye to prevent inward collapse during ophthalmic surgery. The instrument generally includes a ring which is adapted to be placed on the surface of the eye surrounding the cornea. A plurality of securing devices are permanently carried by the ring being circumferentially and equally spaced about the ring to temporarily secure the ring to the surface of the eye. With the ring secured to the eye the integrity of the eye will be maintained regardless of any incisions made in the eye or sections which may be removed therefrom.
