  • Patent number: 4139688
Abstract: Insoluble cross-linked homopolymers of vinylpyrrolidone or copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone are prepared by reaction of the soluble homopolymer or copolymer with certain acid chlorides at a temperature between 75.degree. C. and about 140.degree. C., to obtain a precipitate. Alternately, the insoluble product may be prepared by heating a partial amide chloride of a homopolymer or copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone.

  • Patent number: 4138371
Abstract: Compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein R represents a C.sub.8 -C.sub.14 aliphatic radical; R.sub.1 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 lower alkyl radical; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each represent H or CH.sub.3 ; M.sub.1 and M.sub.2 represent cations of hydrogen, ammonium, alkyl ammonium, alkali metal, or an equivalent of alkaline earth metal; n is an integer having an average value of from 5 to 10; s and t can either be 0 or 1 but both cannot be simultaneously 0; and A represents an anionic radical such as hydroxide, halogen, sulfate, alkyl sulfate, etc. are useful as essentially non-iritating and high foaming amphoteric surface active agents for shampoo and other cosmetic applications. Preferably R is a naturally derived or synthetic alkyl group containing 10-12 carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 4132657
Abstract: Complex phosphate ester surfactants derived from a quaternary dihydroxy compound having the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R.sub.1 represent the same or different alkyl moieties containing 1 to 22 carbon atoms, the sum of R and R.sub.1 not being less than 7 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each represent H or CH.sub.3 ; n is an integer having an average value of from 1 to 50; X is an anion of halogen, sulfate, or alkyl sulfate; and wherein the resultant complex phosphate ester contains at least 1/3 P atom per mole of quaternary dihydroxy compound; can be made through reaction of such dihydroxy quaternary compound with a conventional phosphating agent such as P.sub.2 O.sub.5, polyphosphoric acid, or POCl.sub.3 to form interesting amphoteric surface active agents having utility as metal lubricants, heavy duty cleaners, detergents, etc.
