  • Patent number: 5779735
Abstract: A knee unit for an above-knee prosthetic leg includes a piston arrangement, a valve arrangement and a bladder arrangement for achieving swing and stance control of the prosthetic leg. For swing control the piston arrangement displaces a fluid through the valve arrangement to compress the bladder arrangement for storing the energy required to drive an extension cycle of the prosthetic leg and to provide bias and flexion resistance for the knee unit. For stance control the valve arrangement is such that when weight is applied to the heel of a prosthetic foot at various stages of the gait cycle of the prosthetic leg, the knee unit is permitted to flex or is prevented from flexing via compression of the bladder to provide stability during the various phases of the gait cycle.

  • Patent number: 5681067
Abstract: Plunger arrangements are used for retaining glass/screen inserts in frames. A plurality of caps are disposed around the insert and are disposed in one position for extending a spring biased plunger to engage the frame. The caps are disposed in an other position against the spring bias to retract the plunger from the frame. The arrangement is such that the cap remains in the other position without being held thereat by a user, whereby the user's hands are free to manipulate the insert in or out of the frame.

  • Patent number: 5615773
Abstract: A plurality of audio tape cassette cases are arranged in a stack and the stack is held together via several loop or pile fastener members attached to the stack. The arrangement is such that selected cases in the stack can be easily displaced from adjacent cases while maintaining the stacked relationship. A cover having engaging loop or pile fastener members attached thereto adheres to the stack via said engaging members. The cover is arranged so that the covered stack is easily transportable from one place to another, and the cover is easily removable from the stack.

  • Patent number: 5593609
Abstract: A mixing device for a microwave oven consists of upper and lower elements. A multiplicity of bearing members is provided therebetween. Each of these elements is formed with at least one surface and a plurality of individual separated from each other bearing cups. Each bearing cup has a limited receiving area for receiving the corresponding bearing member. Each receiving area is larger than the largest outside periphery of the corresponding bearing member. In an assembled condition of the mixing device, the surfaces of the upper and lower elements face each other so that the receiving areas of the upper element are substantially aligned with the corresponding receiving areas of the lower element forming a plurality of bearing couples. Each bearing couple accommodates free movement of the corresponding bearing element. Upon rotation of the driving rod, the upper element undergoes orbital motion relative to the lower element.

  • Patent number: 5571111
Abstract: An instrument for implanting an acetabular cup prosthesis includes a head adapted for supporting a selected one of a plurality of prostheses of various sizes carried on one end of the instrument. The instrument is effective for orienting, inserting and impacting the selected prosthesis for implantation, after which the instrument is removed from the implanted prosthesis.

  • Patent number: 5511879
Abstract: An orbital shaking device (56) for use with a magnetic stirring device having a driving magnet (52) mounted on the motor shaft of an electric motor (54). The orbital shaking device comprises a base structure (58, 60) and a outer plate (62) arranged in parallel alignment and each of which is provided with support means on opposing faces thereof. The support means (96, 102) on the opposing faces are adapted to allow orbital movement of the outer plate (62) relative to the stationary base plate (60) in its own plane. The outer plate (60) is also associated with a driven magnet (66) and orbital movement of the outer plate is effected by magnetic coupling of the driven magnet (66) on the outer plate to the driving magnet (52) of the magnetic stirring device. A reduction gearing means (76) is provided through which the outer plate (62) is driven by the driven magnetic field means (66) to increase torque applied thereto.

  • Patent number: 5499722
Abstract: A product dispenser of the type for dispensing cards having products encapsulated thereon has a dispensing section and supports a retaining element at a fixed position relative to the dispensing section, whereby only a fixed quantity of cards can be easily removed from the product dispenser to avoid pilferage and the like as might occur by removing more than the fixed quantity of cards.

  • Patent number: 5421617
Abstract: A cylindrical drum has correlated information stored thereon in circumferentially extending longitudinally spaced rows. The drum is rotatably disposed within an open cylinder and the cylinder has windows longitudinally spaced therealong so as to correspond to the longitudinal spacing of the rows. The drum is attached to knobs which are integral with end caps for closing the cylinder, and when the drum is rotated via the knobs the information on the drum is accessed and is visible through the windows in the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5411458
Abstract: Horizontal squat exercise apparatus includes a substantially horizontally disposed base frame. The base frame supports at its front a substantially vertically disposed foot plate frame and supports at its rear a substantially vertically disposed weight rack frame carrying a plurality of selectable weights. A track frame is supported on the base frame between the foot plate frame and the weight rack frame and includes a substantially horizontal section and a section inclined downwardly from the horizontal section toward the front of the base frame. A carriage is supported on the track frame so as to be displaced first upwardly along the inclined section and then along the horizontal section by an exerciser pushing with his/her feet against the foot plate frame. Selected weights are arranged to be lifted in the weight rack as the carriage is so displaced.

  • Patent number: 5409312
Abstract: An orbital shaking attachment can be fitted or removed from a magnetic stirrer thereby giving the stirrer the extra function of orbital shaking in addition to its primary function of magnetic stirring. The principal of he invention could also be used to make a dedicated orbital shaker for other applications such as in an over, incubator or liquid filled tank. The orbital shaking attachment includes a top-plate/platform with a circular magnet attached centrally to its underside and a base-plate with a central circular hole. The two plates are separated by ball bearings which are able to roll around orbitally in bearing cups on both plates. When operated the base-plate is static and the top-plate/platform moves orbitally. The device is constructed mainly from nonferrous material except for the circular magnet and ball bearings.

  • Patent number: 5387736
Abstract: A portable decontamination system including a carriage for carrying an operator and a decontamination unit is moved to the site of a truck mounted environmental well drilling rig. The carriage is displaced along the length of the substantially upright rig via a lift, whereupon the operator remotely operates the decontamination unit for washing the rig. Contaminated wash water resulting from washing the rig is caught in a pan for subsequent disposal, or decontamination and re-use, as the case may be.
