    Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a steady state stream of machine tool chips in a chip takeaway system which includes a hopper having finger-like projections which extend toward the center of the hopper at or above the level of auger means to relieve packing forces on chips beneath the projections, and a clockwise/counter-clockwise, rotate/pause method of auger operation which further reduces the tendency for chips to pack.
