  • Patent number: 3983992
Abstract: Apparatus and method for the assembly of a two component home canning closure. One popular type of home canning closure utilizes a relatively thin lid to seal a jar with a threaded band holding the lid down. The gasket portion of the lid is relatively fragile. In the assembly of the two components in a manufacturing process for shipment to the consumer, the lids are handled gasket upmost the minimize possible damage. At an assembly station, the lids are rotated 180.degree. to present the gasket downward in the band for protection during shipment and storage.

  • Patent number: 3982632
Abstract: An improved transfer system is provided for guiding a thermoplastic injection runner from a conveyor into a collection hopper. A thermoplastic runner, which results from the injection molding of plastic parts, such as closures, is moved by a conveyor to a transfer drum which utilizes spikes to direct the runner into the hopper. The closures are separated from the runner as it moves along the conveyor and fall into a collection device at the end of the conveyor. A unique separation grid is positioned above the transfer drum and serves as a guide for the runner as it is directed by the spikes on the transfer drum from the conveyor into the hopper. The separation grid prevents the runner from becoming entangled with the drum or from dropping to the floor. The runner material collected in the hopper can be salvaged for recycling after it has been processed in a grinder.

  • Patent number: 3982684
Abstract: A unique one-piece, H-shaped divider pad for a carton is provided with integral projections or separator tabs which may be utilized to separate the carton into six compartments. The divider incorporates folded panels which form a standard H-shaped divider. In addition, a number of projections or separator tabs are provided which extend outwardly from the H-shaped divider into contact with the carton to divide the areas exterior of the H, thereby separating the carton into six compartments and to rigidly position the divider within the carton.

  • Patent number: 3980195
Abstract: A tamper-proof closure, for a container, which requires removal of a tamper-proof ring before the container may be opened. The closure of the present invention includes a closure body which is threadably engaged with the finish portion of a container. A split tamper-proof ring is attached to the closure body at a plurality of severable locations at the root portion of a plurality of projections formed on the interior of the tamper-proof ring. A severable bridge extends between the opposed free ends of the split tamper-proof ring and connects them. The container has a series of external projections located below the threads of the finish portion. The projections of the tamper-proof ring lock with the projections on the container to prevent removal of the closure body. To remove the closure, the severable bridge is broken and the resulting free end of the tamper-proof ring is used as a pull tab to break the connections between the closure body and the tamper-proof ring.

  • Patent number: 3976215
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a tamper-indicating press-on, pull-off closure for maintaning pressure in a container whereby the closure and container provide a package which may be readily opened by a consumer without the use of tools and without the creation of dangerous sharp edges. This closure includes a cap and a unique cap liner which fits within the cap and is formed integral with a pull ring for removal of the cap from a container. A plurality of severable tamper-indicating webs are formed between the pull ring and the cap liner and sever upon actuation of the ring pull to indicate tampering with the package. The cap incorporates a plurality of scores in its skirt portion which fracture when the pull ring is actuated to thereby release the cap from engagement with the container.

  • Patent number: 3941268
Abstract: A child-resistant liquid seal closure and container combination featuring one or more camming projections on the container neck and one or more locking lugs on the interior surface of the closure which engage the camming projections to prevent rotational removal of the closure from the container. The closure may be removed from the container only by squeezing the closure on opposite sides to force the locking lugs radially outwardly beyond the camming projections to permit rotation of the closure relative to the container. The camming projections on the container neck are of sufficient axial height to prevent rotation of the closure relative to the container both when the closure is fully tightened onto the container and when the closure has been rotated 180.degree. relative to the container, thereby necessitating two separate squeezing actions to remove the closure from the container.
