    Abstract: The present invention is a system for replacing gluten in food products. Preferably, the gluten replacement system of the present invention utilizes gluten-free ingredients that mimic the functions of gluten in a dough and in a final product made from the dough. The gluten replacement system can be used to formulate food products that are safe for consumption by those who have a gluten intolerance, allergy or sensitivity, or by those who follow a gluten-free diet. The present invention is also directed to a composition for making a gluten-free product. The composition preferably mimics the functions of gluten in a food product. This composition may include a gluten-free gas-retaining polymer and a gluten-free setting polymer, and it may also include a hydrocolloid or a starch, or both.

    Abstract: A liner disc for a bottle cap for sealingly closing a bottle includes an annular rim portion and a downwardly domed portion depending from the annular rim portion. The domed portion is convex toward the contents of the bottle. A seal layer is provided on the domed portion. Internal pressure of the contents of the bottle acts in a direction tending to flatten the domed portion which in turn expands an annular side wall of the domed portion outwardly to press the seal layer against the inside surface of the bottle to assist in effecting a seal between the bottle and the cap.

    Abstract: A method of continuous casting aluminum alloys between a pair of rolls. Molten aluminum alloy is delivered to a roll bite between the rolls and passes into the roll nip in a semi-molten state. A solid strip of cast aluminum alloy exits the nip at speeds of about 25 to about 400 feet per minute. Thin gauge (0.07-0.25 inch) strip may be produced at rates of up to 2000 pounds per hour per inch of cast strip width.

A preferred metal phase comprises Cu and Ag. The cermet inert anodes may be used in electrolytic reduction cells for the production of commercial purity aluminum as well as other metals.

The inert anode may optionally include other oxides and/or at least one metal phase, such as Cu, Ag, Pd, Pt, Au, Rh, Ru, Ir and/or Os. The Ni—Fe—Co—O ceramic material exhibits very low solubility in Hall cell baths used to produce aluminum.

    Abstract: A rotary cutter separates a molten plastic pellet from a nozzle and deposits the molten plastic pellet into a mold of a mold cavity. The cutter blade includes a cutter blade and a cutter shaft rotatable about an axis of the shaft. The cutter blade is mounted to extend radially from an end of the shaft, the shaft positionable adjacent the nozzle such that the rotary path of the cutter blade closely conforms to a facing surface of the nozzle. An air conduit extends through the cutter shaft to the cutter blade. An air orifice in communication with the air conduit is oriented to direct a stream of air radially along the cutter blade to displace a molten plastic pellet from the cutter blade with a stream of pressurized air. The delivery of pressurized air is precisely timed to displace the pellet from the cutter blade and into the mold cavity.

    Abstract: A chemical delacquering composition, process and system for delacquering substrates such as aluminum scrap in which an aqueous solution containing at least one short-chain organic acid, preferably a mixture of two short-chain organic acids, and optional components such as surfactants, are contacted onto the substrate(s) with application of heat and agitation. The invention embraces the use of one or more organic acids (carboxylic acids) having a total of 2-12 carbons, preferably 3-8 carbons. Concentration of organic acid by weight ranges from about 0.5-8% per at least one organic acid, or preferably 2-4% for each organic acid component assuming two organic acid components are present. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, about 2-4% each of citric and lactic acids are present in the delacquering composition. Processing temperatures range from 160-212° F., preferably 180-212° F., and most preferably 185-212° F.

    Abstract: A compression molding apparatus includes a female mold half which receives a charge of molten plastic and a cooperating male plunger which compression molds the molten plastic into an article within the female mold half. A slide mold part is located between the male plunger and the female mold half. The slide mold part includes left and right slide mold halves which when brought into juxtaposition, define a central mold space. The left and right mold halves are slidable toward and away from each other, to form the central mold space and to open the central mold space respectively. The male portion is reciprocated downwardly to undertake the compression molding, and a cam mechanism is activated by the reciprocation to close the slide mold part during compression molding. The return stroke opens the slide mold part to allow removal of the molded article without stripping or unscrewing the molded article from the slide mold part.

    Abstract: Aluminum alloy compositions are disclosed, which include small amounts of calcium that result in improved surface properties of the cast aluminum. The calcium, and up to 0.25% grain refiners, are added along with alkaline earth metals, transition metals and/or rare earth metals to the aluminum alloy as a melt. The addition results in improved appearance, substantially reduced surface imperfections and reduced surface oxidation in cast ingot aluminum and aluminum alloys. The addition of small amounts of these additives, surprisingly were found to substantially eliminate vertical folds, pits and ingot cracking in more than one ingot casting technique. The additions also improved the appearance of the ingots, including reflectance. As a result, the ingots could be reduced or worked essentially right out of the casting without first conditioning the surface by, for example, scalping.
