  • Patent number: 6757665
Abstract: A system and method is provided for monitoring the operating condition of a pump by evaluating fault data encoded in the instantaneous current of the motor driving the pump. The data is converted to a frequency spectrum which is analyzed to create a fault signature having fault attributes relating to various fault conditions associated with the pump. The fault signature is then input to a neural network that operates in conjunction with a preprocessing and post processing module to perform decisions and output those decisions to a user interface. A stand alone module is also provided that includes an adaptive preprocessing module, a one-shot unsupervised neural network and a fuzzy based expert system to provide a decision making module that operates with limited human supervision.

  • Patent number: 6753853
Abstract: A method of determining a type of touch plane operator input device comprises sensing the impedance across first and second terminals of a touch plane operator input device to distinguish the touch plane operator input device as being one of at least two different types of touch plane operator input devices. A method of processing an input from a touch plane operator input device comprises determining a first location of a first touch on the touch plane operator input device; determining a second location of a second touch on the touch plane operator input device; comparing the first and second locations to obtain an indication of an amount of difference between the first and second locations; and determining whether the indication of the amount of difference exceeds a predetermined amount. These steps are performed by discrete logic circuitry that provides an event notification to a microprocessor when the indication of the amount of difference exceeds the predetermined amount.

  • Patent number: 6751572
Abstract: A part measurement system includes a press machine, a part measurement sensor, a part forming rail, and a press controller. The press machine includes a lower die coupled to an upper die, wherein the lower die includes a top surface supporting a strip of material to be formed into a part after a stripper plate coupled to the upper die contacts the strip of material. The part measurement sensor is located in the lower die and measures a critical dimension of the part while the part is in the lower die. The part forming rail is coupled to the lower die. The forming rail and the upper die form the critical dimension of the part. The press controller is coupled to the press machine and the sensor. The controller processes a measurement signal from the part measurement sensor of the critical dimension of the part, compares the measurement signal to a predetermined threshold value, and generates a command signal to the press machine to adjust the forming rail based on the measurement signal.

  • Patent number: 6745232
Abstract: A method and system are provided for executing a control function or program which minimizes or overcomes the shortcomings of conventional systems. The invention allows a user of a distributed control system to place one or more control devices into a step mode, wherein the devices will execute a specified number of iterations of their internal logic or control programs, or execute such programs for a specified time period, and then stop or suspend execution. The user may then perform system diagnostics, for example, by interrogating certain modules to obtain output and input values, etc. The system may then be further iterated and the method repeated, so as to enable the identification of logic programming and/or hardware problems in a system.

  • Patent number: 6734584
Abstract: The present invention provides for a system and method for facilitating cooling of a totally enclosed motor. A first thermal barrier is coupled to a first end bracket and is operable to insulate bearings from internal heat produced by the motor. Either an external fan located opposite the drive end of the motor, an externally mounted blower, or free ambient air convection may be employed to provide cooling air to the motor. An air deflector is coupled to the drive end of the motor to capture the cooling air and direct it as high velocity air over the first end bracket thereby keeping the bearings supported within the first end bracket cool. Alternatively, an external fan may be coupled to the drive end of the motor to provide cooling air to the first end bracket.

  • Patent number: 6732296
Abstract: The present invention provides for a test system having a test executive software system for performing tests on units under test. The test executive software system includes a test kernel component that provides control through a generic interface to the test executive software. Test components, instrument components, support objects and a test system interface component are communicatively coupled to the test kernel component. The instrument components can be written as a dynamically linked library (DLL) file so that the instrument component can be broken into basic functional modules associated with the particular instrument type. Each instrument component supports operation in both live mode and virtual mode, so that testing can be performed in both normal mode and simulation mode. Virtual mode allows instruments to be inserted and removed without impacting test applications that do not utilize them, thereby reducing tester downtime.
