  • Patent number: 5095933
Abstract: An expandable float assembly is insertable through the lower valve bore in an accumulator or a hole in a tank. The assembly includes a sleeve member and a plurality of floatable arm members. The floatable arm members may be folded to a position substantially parallel to the sleeve members for insertion of the expandable float assembly into the accumulator or tank. After insertion of the expandable float assembly into the accumulator or tank the floatable arm members are deployed to a position substantially perpendicular to the sleeve member.

  • Patent number: 5086808
Abstract: A balanced sleeve control choke includes a choke with inlet and outlet flow passages intersecting in a cylindrical flow chamber. A balanced external sleeve and cage trim configuration which vents downstream pressure to a balance chamber within the choke body includes an external sleeve with a wear sleeve of tungsten carbide shrink fitted therein is reciprocable within the flow chamber to control flow between the inlet and outlet flow passages. The external sleeve is closed at one end with a stem extending therefrom which is reciprocated by a handwheel operated travelling nut assembly. The external sleeve telescopes over a flow cage of composite construction secured within the flow chamber with a portion of the flow cage constructed of tungsten carbide with pressure balancing ports therethrough. The external sleeve has ports disposed within its wall which communicate downstream pressure to a balance chamber disposed thereabout.

  • Patent number: 5083582
Abstract: A valve arrangement having an insert assembly (11) receivable in a receptacle (10). The insert assembly includes valve elements for controlling fluid flow through the valve. These include a gate (40) and chamber valve seat members (52, 53). The insert is constructed so that it can be removed from and located in the receptacle. When located in the receptacle and in operation the gate is urged against one of the seat members so that a seal is formed between the seat and gate and between the seat and receptacle body. The gate (40) can be an expandable gate.

  • Patent number: 5080174
Abstract: A hydraulic casing hanger and packoff installation tool includes a central tubular member with a drill pipe upper connection and an annular chamber at the lower end thereof with a pair of concentric axially movable pistons mounted therein. A plurality of fluid passages are positioned in the wall of the tubular member and extend from the piston annular chamber to the middle portion of the tubular member where it exits. The pistons have a lower tubular extension which carries releasable latching mechanism which connects the tool to the packoff to be installed and transmits the axial force of the pistons to the packoff. A drill pipe stinger extends through the annular chamber with a releasable latch mechanism mounted on an enlarged lower portion. The releasable latching mechanism connects the tool to the casing hanger for lowering the casing and hanger into the well bore.

  • Patent number: 5074519
Abstract: A fail-close hydraulically actuated control choke includes a choke with inlet and outlet flow passages intersecting in a cylindrical flow chamber. A reverse acting trim configuration which utilizes downstream pressure to assist in closing includes a flow cage with a wear sleeve of tungsten carbide shrink fitted therein is reciprocable within the flow chamber to control flow between the inlet and outlet flow passages. The flow cage is closed at one end with a stem extending therefrom which is reciprocated by a fail-close hydraulic actuator. The hydraulic actuator includes a pressure responsive piston in combination with a torque operated driving mechanism. The driving mechanism is positioned within the piston and includes a traveling nut assembly to allow manual positioning of the stem and flow cage independently of the position of the piston.

  • Patent number: 5070942
Abstract: The tubing hanger seal assembly of the present invention includes a metal to metal seal that is energized from above by a drive sleeve. The drive sleeve is threaded to the outside of the tubing hanger and as it is rotated downward, engages a load ring which in turn energizes the metal to metal seal by compressing it between the tubing hanger and tubing head. In addition, the invention includes a split ring which is forced into a notch by the drive sleeve in the inside of the tubing head to prevent the seal from being blown-out by upward pressure.

  • Patent number: 5062746
Abstract: An attachment for clamping a portable drill to a work piece includes a foot member which positions a portable drill with respect to a work piece. A contact pad applies pressure to the surface of the work piece. Located between the contact pad and the means for engagement of the portable drill is a guide path in which a housing is slidably mounted. Affixed to the housing is a means for applying a vertical force and a collet member. Said means being anti-back drivable. The vertical force is applied to a mandrel so that the mandrel expands the collet. Once the collet has been expanded, a force is placed on the contact pad and on the means for engaging the portable drill. Consequently, the portable drill is held in place at the desired location for drilling a finish hole using minimal force.

  • Patent number: 5060985
Abstract: A landing ring (60, 96) for use in stacking hangers (14, 40, 80) in a wellhousing 10. Each landing ring can be connected to a downwardly facing landing shoulder on a layer in such a way as to allow relative lateral movement between the ring and layer. The lower surface of each ring may be tapered to engage a correspondingly shaped surface on the upper surface of another hanger on which it is to land. The arrangement points a layer to be aligned laterally in the housing independently of the alignment of a layer on which it is landed.
