    Abstract: A temperature sensing device for remotely detecting the temperature of a subject having an identifying feature and a target zone in a fixed relationship to the identifying feature comprising: a distance sensor which measures the distance between the subject and the distance sensor; a temperature sensor for measuring a temperature difference in a sensing zone; a digital image capture device for capturing a digital image of the subject; a means of tilting at least the temperature sensor along at least one axis, and preferably tilting and panning along two axes; a controller that actuates the tilting means; and a support for supporting the distance sensor, the temperature sensor and the digital image capture device; wherein the controller tilts the distance sensor using the tilting means to reduce the distance between the target zone and the sensing zone; and a temperature sensor that measures a temperature difference proximate to the target zone, to detect elevated temperature illness in humans or animals.

    Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus and method for generating quantum-correlated and/or polarization-entangled photon pairs with unequal wavelengths. The photon pairs generated collinearly with respect to the pump light via a nonlinear process in a nonlinear optical medium are collected into a single mode fiber and split using a dichroic device. The wavelengths of photons constituting a pair are selected such that, first, their efficient propagation in the same single mode optical fiber, and second, their efficient splitting with high switching ratio, is possible. A detected rate ˜105-106 pairs/s and >98% quantum interference visibility of polarization entanglement is observed. This source, given its performance, robustness and minimum alignment requirements is ideal for quantum communication schemes, in particular for entanglement-based quantum cryptography.

Herein, the shifting device has a servo-electric transmission drive element (4). The present invention provides a robust and compact switchable roll stabilizer, which can be produced cost-efficiently. At the same time, the present invention allows for the actuatoric support of the opening movement as well as the locking movement of the stabilizer coupling with very short shifting times. The switchable stabilizer according to the present invention is suitable for motor vehicles, for example, which are employed off-road as well as on the road.
