  • Patent number: 8012116
Abstract: We have developed a novel method of brain surface dialysis that reduces intracranial pressure and modifies movement of extracellular fluid in a rat model of brain injury. A chamber with a semipermeable membrane at the site of brain contact is perfused with a hyperosmolar solution (e.g. 15% dextran, inulin, hydroxyethyl starch). It is also capable of providing local brain cooling. In principle, osmotic forces draw water and small molecules from the injured brain into the dialysis chamber thereby reducing brain swelling. The dialysate does not move into the brain.

  • Patent number: 7959790
Abstract: An improved method for the electro-coagulation c treatment of water and waste water includes an electrolytic cell having an anode and a helical cathode mounted longitudinally within a duct for receiving the contaminated water or waste water at one end and for discharging the treated water and electro-coagulated precipitates at the other end. The electro-coagulated precipitates can be subsequently separated by conventional flocculation, settlement and filtration systems. The anode forms a central longitudinal sacrificial rod defining a cylindrical outer surface and the helical cathode comprises an elongate wire coiled helically around and along the anode so as form a plurality of turns of the wire which turns are wrapped around the anode surface in the form of a constant helix of constant diameter with the turns spaced each from the next and spaced from the anode surface.

  • Patent number: 7918076
Abstract: A crop harvesting header includes a center portion mounted on two spring arms and two separate wings pivotally connected to the center portion. The wings are connected to the center portion by interconnecting linkages which transfer weight from the wings to the spring arms each including a balance beam arranged to balance the lifting force from the spring arm with the downward forces from the center portion and wing such that the downward force on a skid plate of each portion on the ground varies automatically as the total downward force is varied. The balance beams apply force to the linkages by a compression member to reduce forces. The movement caused by floating of the header and the change of angle of the header are compensated at the balance beam to ensure that the force to the wings is reduced as the requirement caused by changes in geometry reduces.

  • Patent number: 7914638
Abstract: A vehicle is wrapped by a printed adhesive film where the film is also applied over doors and other areas intended not to be covered. The film is cut at the door edge and over the area by adhesively attaching a tape having a release coating on the front surface and carrying a filament along a center of the front side. The printed film is applied over the door, the area not to be covered and the tapes and is cut along the door edge and around the area by pulling the filament from the tape so that a strip of the film at the door edge and the film over the area can be removed. The film can be stretched and pulled away from the tape for reapplying for proper fit.

  • Patent number: 7846331
Abstract: A vacuum truck has a cylindrical tank which can be pivoted to discharge through a rear door is arranged for transporting collected solids while liquid is extracted and returned. Two tank extraction outlets in the top wall at the front and rear are connected to the vacuum pump and each includes a float valve ball contained in a receptacle above the top wall as to allow the tank to be filled to the top wall. For separating the materials into liquid which is pumped away and solids for transportation, the tank includes a generally upstanding dividing wall across the tank having a bottom wall portion, which can pivot away as the tank is tilted, and has a top edge defining a weir over which liquid can flow into the liquid collection area, and an upper screening section defined by a support screen and a hanging chain curtain in front of the screen.

  • Patent number: 4898640
Abstract: A cable shielding tape is produced by laminating a single layer of an insulating material film which may be plastic to a conducting layer which may be of metallic foil with one edge of the conducting layer offset laterally with respect to said insulating layer, leaving a foil free edge portion of the insulating layer along one edge of the tape. This can be manufactured by laying the insulating layer tapes in a shingled formation, laminating a web of foil over the tapes and then separating the tapes each with a partial covering of the foil. The conducting layer and insulating layer are coterminous at the opposite edge and both are folded back with the conducting layer outermost.

  • Patent number: 4883127
Abstract: A field marker for attachment to a sprayer boom has an outer square tube clamped to the end of the spray boom. An inner square tube slides in the outer tube and is connected to it by a pair of coil springs that bias the inner tube downwardly. An hydraulic cylinder joins the inner and outer tubes as well and, when actuated, raises the inner tube against the biasing force of the springs. A marking disk is mounted on the bottom end of the inner tube, preferably with an adjustable mounting to accommodate booms of different heights.

  • Patent number: 4619468
Abstract: A cover for the seatbelt of an automobile of the type having a lap strap and a diagonal body strap comprising a pair of tubular sleeve members with a longitudinal slit so that the sleeve members can be opened and wrapped around the lap and diagonal straps respectively. Each sleeve member includes an inner surface formed a pile fabric material preferably natural fur which thus can engage the body of the occupant to prevent or reduce the strap from cutting or rubbing a fur coat worn by the occupant.

  • Patent number: 4579163
Abstract: A heat exchange apparatus includes a core mounted within a casing and two fans arranged to draw air from the exterior of a building through the core in a first path and to draw air from the interior of the building through the core in a second path. The core is made up from a plurality of tubular cells each formed from a single folded sheet of aluminum and having a slot shaped cross section. The short sides of the slot are arranged to face the inlet of cold exterior air so that it impinges upon the outer surface of the short side. The fan drawing the warm air is arranged to direct air onto the other surface of the short side so that the short side and the surrounding portions of the long sides act as an effective heat exchange surface free from the seam of the tubular core which is arranged adjacent opposite the short side. A differentially perforated baffle plate spreads the cold air over core such that more cold air is directed to the warm end of the core.

  • Patent number: 4334217
Abstract: A magnetic pick-up device or other electrical output type sensor is operatively situated adjacent to a rotary part of the cable hoist assembly and produces impulses as the part rotates. These are conveyed to electronic equipment which, by use of the necessary calculator networks and the like, displays information such as upper and lower limits or positions of the cable hook and may include automatic cut-off devices for the hoist equipment. Also available is a display showing the total distance travelled by the cable both upwardly and downwardly and means to indicate when a predetermined distance has been travelled. Electronic equipment can also indicate the distance the load travels so that the operator can determine the location of the load relative to a reference point. Furthermore, the rate of travel of the cable as it applies to the penetration of a drill bit can be indicated.
