  • Patent number: 8256995
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for the treatment of liquid runoff, such as rainfall, irrigation, and waste or produced water, utilizing aboveground, modular, permeable barriers containing reactive media that can immobilize particular solutes of concern, removing them from the liquid runoff. The modular design allows construction of a relatively-uniform barrier, or media volume, that is self-supporting and easily assembled, maintained, modified, and augmented. A permeable reactive barrier constructed according to the present invention provides significant contact between the reactive media and the solutes of concern while allowing the runoff stream to flow through the structure relatively unimpeded.

  • Patent number: 8143320
Abstract: A process and a system are disclosed for producing methanol from synthesis gas. The synthesis gas is a stream containing H2, CO, and CO2 that is created using a nitrogen containing oxidant stream, such as air. The synthesis gas is then reacted through a conventional reactor system to create methanol. Unreacted synthesis gas is recycled back through the reactor system. The disclosed methanol production process can be mounted and operated on a seagoing vessel.

  • Patent number: 7925744
Abstract: A derived state value is calculated based on a plurality of component state values. As any of the plurality of component state values changes, the derived state value is recalculated. When sending information about a MAC address or other data between two components, the derived state value is included in the information sent. An object receiving a MAC address or other data from another object checks the validity of the received derived state value to determine whether to accept the new data and flush old data, to accept the new data, or to ignore the new data.

  • Patent number: 7909541
Abstract: A structural assembly and a method are disclosed for an improved foundation element post-grouting technique incorporating a piston arrangement that consists of a barrel at the base of a pier or pile. Grout is pumped into the barrel via one or more conduits and the pressure from the grout exerts downward pressure on the barrel forcing it into the geomaterial below the foundation element and increasing the load bearing capacity of the foundation element. This assembly and method functions to contain the grout within the target grout area beneath the foundation element while simultaneously providing a means for measuring the strength of the geomaterial below the foundation element and the strain and movement associated with the geomaterial and the pier or pile.

  • Patent number: 7906583
Abstract: Improved adhesives are provided through the use of styrenic radial block copolymers, containing at least 40 wt % diblock copolymers, the adhesives have improved adhesive properties and a reduced elastic behavior under die-cutting conditions. Compared to conventional linear block copolymers of similar molecular weight, radial copolymers offer higher holding power and lower melt viscosity for the adhesive. They therefore contribute to an improved balance between processability and end-use properties.

  • Patent number: 7826222
Abstract: A front-to-back cooling system allows cooling of an apparatus containing two orthogonal sets of modules. Each set of modules is independently cooled. A vertical set of modules is cooled with vertical air flow across the modules that enters from a front of the apparatus and exhausts from a back of the apparatus. A horizontal set of modules is cooled with horizontal front-to-back air flow. When the horizontal set of modules is at the front of the apparatus, a plenum extending exterior to the vertical set of modules allows exhausting horizontally flowing air to the rear of the apparatus. When the horizontal set of modules is at the rear of the apparatus, a plenum extending exterior to the vertical set of modules allows moving air from the front of the apparatus to a chamber holding the horizontal modules.

  • Patent number: 7762876
Abstract: The cabin exhaust device ventilates vehicles provided with retractable windows and mounts on a portion of the vehicle, preferably on a door frame or in an opening between a window panel and a window frame. The cabin exhaust device comprises a squeegee and a ventilation panel having an air dam, a first portion, and a second portion, wherein the first and second portions are provided with angularly oriented apertures, thereby creating a vacuum on the vehicle's interior side. The first and second portions are outwardly convexed, thereby facilitating the creation of a pressure differential between the vehicle's interior and its exterior, thus forcing the air and other contaminants out from the vehicle's interior.

  • Patent number: 7715391
Abstract: Methods and systems consistent with the present invention provide a way to provide optimal delivery of multicast content by retail ISPs in a wholesale aggregation network environment. A broadband network gateway dynamically informs an access node of a mapping between a multicast domain corresponding to the retail service provider, allowing the gateway to send multicast data to the access node for replication to subscribers instead of replicating the multicast data at the gateway. The gateway dynamically informs the access node of the mapping using a standardized access node control protocol. The gateway can also dynamically instruct the access node to update or delete the mapping.

  • Patent number: 7709418
Abstract: Described is a superconducting composition comprising an oxide complex of the formula [L1?xMx]aAbOy wherein L is lanthanum, lutetium, yttrium or scandium; A is copper, bismuth, titanium, tungsten, zirconium, tantalum, niobium, or vanadium; M is barium, strontium, calcium, magnesium or mercury; and “a” is 1 to 2; “b” is 1; “x” is a number in the range of 0.01 to 0.5 and preferably 0.075 to 0.5; and “y” is about 2 to about 4. The oxide complexes of the invention are prepared by solid-state reaction procedure which produce oxide complexes having enhanced superconducting transition temperatures compared to an oxide complex of like empirical composition prepared by a coprecipitation—high temperature decomposition procedure. With a solid-state reaction prepared oxide complex of the invention a transition temperature as high as 100° K has been observed even under atmospheric pressure.

  • Patent number: 7693725
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for determining equivalency factors for use in comparative performance analysis of industrial facilities by determining a target variable and a plurality of characteristics of the target variable. Each of the plurality of characteristics is ranked according to value. Based on ranking value, the characteristics are divided into categories. Based on the sorted and ranked characteristics, a data collection classification system is developed. Data is collected according to the data collection classification system. The data is validated, and based on the data, an analysis model is developed. The analysis model then calculates the equivalency factors for use in one embodiment in performance measurement and equitable benchmarking of green house gas (GHG) emissions from industrial facilities for the purposes of allocating GHG emission allowances for permits, licenses, etc.
