  • Patent number: 6836706
Abstract: A method of forecasting the comfort performance in a vehicle equipped with a test mounted assembly in a selected position, traveling at speed V over smooth ground, with a maximum speed Vmax, by establishing a vehicle transfer function where the assembly has a tire with N substantially identical irregularities on its circumference, regularly distributed to excite the vehicle in a range of frequencies, measuring the forces at the wheel center, and multiplying the forces by the vehicle transfer function to forecast the noise and vibrations.

  • Patent number: 6506274
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacture of a tire, the apparatus including a drum with shoulder having a generally cylindrical main receiving surface to receive the products to be assembled, the main receiving surface being radially retractable. The drum has a shoulder axially to the side edges of said main receiving surface. The drum is mounted on a shaft. At least one associated axially movable side crown is mounted coaxially with the drum. The drum has a lateral protuberance coaxially juxtaposed to at least one of its shoulders. The side crown is axially slidable at least partly under the lateral protuberance, the lateral protuberance forming a quasi-cylindrical support surface whose outside diameter is smaller than the diameter of the main receiving surface. The side crown has a substantially cylindrical outer surface capable of passing axially outside of the lateral protuberance.

  • Patent number: 6467517
Abstract: The present invention provides a pneumatic tire having a tread portion comprising a plurality of axially spaced apart essentially longitudinal grooves separating essentially longitudinal ribs. On at least one of said ribs, transverse grooves or cuts repeat in the circumferential direction to form first and second land portions wherein the first land portions comprise blocks having a circumferential length greater than that of the second land portions. Said second land portion acts as a sacrificial bridge which provides traction improvement and minimizes undesirable surface anomalies during the service life of the tire.

  • Patent number: 6217683
Abstract: The present invention provides a tire monitor retainer assembly and monitored vehicle tire. A module which monitors tire information is supported by a rubber ply affixed to the inside surface of the tire. The module has electrical components for monitoring tire information by collecting, storing and/or reading information about the tire. A fastener assembly is used to secure the module to the rubber ply such that the module is support within the tire's cavity. The module is mounted to be isolated from tire loads such that the durability of the monitoring system is improved. The fastener assembly has first parts carried by the rubber ply and second fastener parts built into the module. The first and second fastener parts cooperate to support said module from said rubber ply. The module is made with a retainer opening having edges to receive a fastener device having standoff or indexing elements.

  • Patent number: 5309971
Abstract: A tire includes a pair of axially spaced apart beads. A carcass ply extends between and is secured at axially opposite end portions to a respective one of the beads. A pair of bead fillers is also included. Each of the bead fillers is located radially outward of a respective bead. A flipper partially envelopes the bead and further engages and replaces a part of the bead filler. The flipper further includes a plurality of parallel extending reinforcing members. The flipper has a central portion located radially inward of the bead and a pair of leg portions. Each of the pair of leg portions extends radially outwardly from a bead reference. The radial extent of the leg portions is greater than a flange distance, being the radial extent of a flange of a rim, but less than the radial extent of an apex of the bead filler when the tire is properly mounted on the rim. The carcass ply turnup extends radially to approximately the height of the rim flange.
