Abstract: The disclosure describes a spoolable compliant guide, a system including a spoolable compliant guide and injector and methods for using the compliant guide, where the guide is designed to connect at one end to the injector and at its other end to a remote installation having a seal and to allow coiled tubing to be inserted into the installation through the seal. Because the guide permits a substantial distance to exist between the injector and the installation seal and functions as a crimp or band resistor for the coiled tubing, the guide enables the injector to be conveniently positioned remote from the installation such as a wellhead and assumes a compliant shape between the injector and the installation allowing dynamic relative movement between them without the use of heave compensators. Thus, for subsea installations, the injector, its control system and coiled tubing reels can all be located on the water's surface for ease of access and maintenance.

Abstract: A temporary stability module and method for marine structures during construction, transportation and installation is taught. The device and method permit the structure, including platforms, deck and equipment to be constructed in an upright position, towed to an ocean installation site, and installed by ballasting the structure or temporary stability module and subsequent removal of the module.

Abstract: An extended-base tension leg substructure, an offshore platform supported on the substructure and a method for supporting an offshore platform on the substructure are disclosed, where the substructure includes a plurality of support columns disposed about a central axis of the substructure and interconnected by at least one pontoon. Each column comprises an above water and submerged portion. The substructure also includes a plurality of wings or arms radiating from the columns and/or the pontoons, each wing fixedly or removably securing at least one tendon extending from a wing to an anchor on the seabed. The substructure includes an open, wave transparent central zone for improved access to well-related equipment, conduits or the like and the wings minimize translational movement and rotational flex in the substructure reducing fatigue in the tendons and their connections.

Abstract: A method and system whereby an abrasive ring having an axis and a given number of abrasive sheet elements projecting with respect to the axis is formed by forming an orderly first pack of abrasive sheet elements having a first number of elements smaller than the given number of the ring; forming at least a second pack of elements having a second number of elements at most equal to the difference between the given number and the first number; curving the first pack to form a base ring; circumferentially compacting the elements in the base ring to form at least one gap; and inserting at least a second pack of elements inside the gap.
Abstract: A method and machine for producing a ring of abrasive sheet elements from which to form a rotary brush, and whereby the abrasive sheet elements are formed into an orderly row of abrasive elements of a length substantially equal to the mean circumference of the ring, and are connected to one another by feeding towards the row a flexible connecting element, and by connecting the flexible connecting element integrally to each of the sheet elements prior to curving the row to form the ring.
Abstract: A method of conditioning a flow of fluid comprises the steps of introducing a fluid into a nozzle body having an opening defining an inlet, an opening defining an outlet, and an inner surface connecting the inlet and the outlet, directing the fluid introduced into the inlet of nozzle body over the inner surface, and applying a pressure to the fluid. The inner surface of the nozzle is asymmetric with respect to a centerline of the inlet to provide a first region outside the nozzle of relative maximum pressure and a second region outside the nozzle of relative minimum pressure, where the first and second regions are substantially the same distance from the outlet. A fluid-conditioning nozzle comprises an inlet having an edge defining a first circumference, an outlet, offset from and spaced apart from the inlet, having an edge defining a second circumference, smaller than the first circumference, and a transition surface extending between the inlet and the outlet.
