  • Patent number: 4475761
Abstract: A vehicle comprises a body having a deck and a wall, said wall comprising two parts connected for relative pivotal movement about a horizontal axis. There may be first, releasable, pivot means having an axis above the deck, and second, releasable, pivot means adjacent a lower edge of one of the wall parts for allowing the wall to pivot with respect to the deck, so that on release of the first pivot means the wall may pivot about the second pivot means and on release of the second pivot means the wall may pivot about the first pivot means. There may be third, releasable, pivot means having an axis spaced further from the deck than the axis of the first pivot means so that on release of the first and second pivot means the wall may pivot about the third pivot means.

  • Patent number: 4475586
Abstract: A heat exchanger with at least one main tube, closed off at one end, into which compressed air, which is to be heated, is admitted and, after being heated, is removed. The main tube has at least two channel guideways which are separated from one another in the longitudinal direction. U-shaped or curved compressed air lines project from the main tube and contact the hot gases. Each compressed air line is connected at one end to the channel guideway of the main tube into which compressed air is admitted, and at its other end with the channel guideway through which the heated compressed air is removed. The compressed air lines are formed primarily from hollow bodies, which extend in the direction of flow of the hot gas and which preferably are tapered at the inflow and outflow ends in order to aid the flow.

  • Patent number: 4473447
Abstract: Method for manufacturing solar absorption layers by electrodeposition of heavy metals, such as Ni and Co, from aqueous citrate solutions. The heavy metal citrates are produced by direct reaction of metal oxides or carbonates with citric acid. The electrolyte concentration is a maximum 5% and has a pH of between 8 and 11. The deposition process takes place at room temperature, bath voltages of 8 to 30 V, and current densities of 3 to 10 A/dm.sup.2. The layers produced by this method are well bonded black layers resistant to temperatures up to 700.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4472008
Abstract: A portable carrying case for toy cars includes an outer housing connected to a handle. Within the outer housing is a turntable having several open-ended vehicle compartments which can hold a toy car in each. Between the outer housing and the handle is a movable gate adjacent to one compartment. Within the handle is a control shift lever, which not only causes the gate to open and to close the housing, but simultaneously also causes the turntable to rotate. There is also provided an indexing means which cooperates with the turntable, in order to limit the rotation of the turntable. Thus as the lever is shifted back and forth, one compartment at a time is rotated into position, and held there, adjacent to the movable gate.

  • Patent number: 4472608
Abstract: A subscriber line interface circuit for coupling a balanced communication line with unbalanced bidirectional or a pair of unidirectional communication lines. Line current is fed to the line via a low resistance path for maximum current supply, via a circuit which matches the line impedance, and also provides high resistance protection to the output of amplifiers feeding the balanced line. Since a low resistance d.c. current feed is used, a voltage boost is not required. However lightning protection is obtained for the outputs of the amplifiers which feed the line, at the same time as virtually optimum line impedance matching and sufficient line current feed. The circuit is comprised of a balanced line including a lead pair, a pair of matched feed resistors for providing a low resistance path, each connected to one of the pair for applying a d.c. line current from a power source to the line, the total resistance of the feed resistors being a fraction of the d.c. line impedance.

  • Patent number: 4471008
Abstract: A metal intermediate layer between two generally parallel thrust surfaces. At least one of the thrust surfaces is ceramic, and the surfaces are oblique to the direction of force tending to press the surfaces toward each other. The intermediate layer is formed by applying a metal powder suspension to at least one of the surfaces, and thereafter drying and if necessary heating the suspension to remove the non-metallic portion of the suspension. The surfaces may be faces of the blade root and slot, which accommodates the root, of a turbomachine.

  • Patent number: 4466429
Abstract: An apparatus comprising two rasping halves conforming generally to the shape of the bone cavity to be produced, and a drive mechanism for reciprocating both rasping halves counter to each other in an axial direction. A rotary cutting tool in front of the rasping halves prepares the bone cavity to receive the rasping halves. A flexible drive shaft for the cutting tool extends between the rasping halves and rotatably within a drive shaft for the rasping halves. The latter drive shaft has a slot oriented at an angle to the axis of rotation of the drive shaft, and a pin projects from each rasping half into the slot, the pins being located 180.degree. apart. A bushing guides the movement of the rasping halves, and the pin from each rasping half extending through a slot in a housing for their drive shaft prevents twisting of the rasping halves.

  • Patent number: 4463345
Abstract: A seed flow monitor for use with a plurality of seed flow sensors which are located in individual tubes of a field seeder. In the event of detection of reduction of seed flow in any seed tube below a predetermined threshold, a pulse signal is sent to a central display via circuits, associated with each group of seed flow sensors, connected in series. Each of the circuits modifies the pulse signal in a predetermined similar manner, resulting in a pulse signal received at the central display which is unique to the group of seed tubes originating the pulse signal. Preferably the pulse signal is constantly transmitted to the circuits by the central display, and is merely coupled into the series of circuits upon detection of the seed flow below the threshold. The cabling complexity from the sensors to the control display is thus substantially reduced and reliability is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 4461445
Abstract: A mounting and locking device for a dispenser consists of a mounting plate provided with holes enabling it to be screwed to a wall or similar support and having projections engageable with grooves formed in the back of the dispenser so that the dispenser can be engaged with the mounting plate by downward sliding movement. A latch member is provided on a portion of the mounting plate which is obscured by the dispenser when the dispenser is mounted on the mounting plate. The latch member is arranged in an operative position to project from the mounting plate and locate in a recess formed in the rear of the dispenser so that if an attempt is made to remove the dispenser by sliding it upwardly relative to the mounting plate the latch engages the dispenser and prevents it from being removed.

  • Patent number: 4458803
Abstract: A packaging conveyor for cylindrical articles serving to maintain cylindrical articles such as stacks of cups or the like in a desired orientation with the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical article maintained perpendicular to the direction of movement of the article along the conveyor. The conveyor is formed as a flight conveyor with a first run of flights spaced apart a distance less than 100% and greater than 25% of the diameter of the cylindrical article to be oriented, so that the cylindrical article will fall partially through the spacing between adjacent flights of this first run. A second run of flights spaced apart a distance less than the spacing between the flights of the first run is mounted for movement with the flights of the first run, receiving oriented articles from the first flight run, so as to raise the level of the articles to lie on a plane along the top of the flights.

  • Patent number: 4457440
Abstract: A cap liner in the form of a sandwich and so arranged that a compressible intermediate layer in the form of discrete compressible strips of relatively great thickness is disposed between two relatively thin non-resilient outer layers. The intermediate layer can be squeezed beyond the periphery of the material for making a better seal and the separate rods will be joined together in abutting fused relationship when the intermediate layer is so compressed. One of the outer layers can be eliminated, in which case the top wall of the cap serves in its place.
