  • Patent number: 6129690
Abstract: The upper and lower sections (12, 14) of a splint (10) are pivotable about a pivot axis (17) by a pair of pivot assemblies (16). Each pivot assembly (16) includes a housing (18) having a cylindrical side wall (20) and a spacer (30) having a cam track (34). The housing (18) is closed by a closure plate (36) which pivotably mounts an arcuate brake shoe (46) and which mounts a cam (60). Relative rotation of the housing (18) and closure plate (36) causes the cam (60) to follow on the cam track (34) for pivoting the brake shoe (46) to engage the side wall (20) with variable braking force. In preferred forms, a compression block (80) having an aperture (82) formed therein is positioned between the brake shoe axis and the end of the brake shoe (46) to provide a visual indication of the resistance force. In preferred forms, a V-shaped projection (90) is formed on the brake shoe (46) for slideable receipt in a V-shaped groove (84) formed in the side wall (20).

  • Patent number: 6128980
Abstract: An adjustable wrench includes a handle, a head connected to the handle and including a fixed jaw formed thereon and a movable jaw mounted thereon, an adjusting screw rotatably mounted in a web area between the handle and the head for moving the movable jaw relative to the fixed jaw, and a clearance retaining device including an actuating member, a braking wheel, and a retaining member. The actuating member includes an end connected to an axle to which the adjusting screw is mounted. The braking wheel is normally in a free position not engaged with the adjusting screw when the actuating member is in a first position. When the actuating member is moved to a second position for fine adjustment, the braking wheel is moved and rotated to cause the adjusting screw to rotate through a predetermined angle such that the movable jaw is slightly moved away from the fixed jaw for a pre-determined distance. The braking wheel is retained between the adjusting screw and the retaining member after such fine adjustment.

  • Patent number: 6130919
Abstract: A method and device are adapted to perform digital frequency modulation. First, an input frequency modulation signal is converted into a digital signal via an A/D (Analog/Digit) adapter, then a varied carrier frequency parameter "a" for each different system is added to the digital signal by an adder; next, the digital signal is multiplied by a various frequency variation parameter "b" assigned to each different system accordingly, and is further multiplied by another number 2.sup.-U, U=10 for SVHS system and U=11 for VHS system, by a multiplier; afterwards, the digital signal is processed by a digital integrator; then corresponding amplitudes in mapping with all angles .theta. and .theta.' within 360 degrees are obtained by sin.theta. ROM and Cos.theta.' ROM, wherein Z.sup.-1 is a flip-flop, the parameters "a", "b" are variable corresponding to specifications of PAL, NTSC, VHS, SVHS systems and the interlace scanning so as to make the design applicable to various systems.
