  • Patent number: 4043129
Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling a well providing access to an underground source of high temperature geothermal brine against flashing as the hot brine is delivered upwardly through the well to surface power apparatus for use of heat from the brine in the generation of electrical power, thereby eliminating plugging of the well by precipitated mineral deposits as well as other problems which have heretofore caused most geothermal resources of this character to be beset with operational problems. A pump down in the well pressurizes the hot output liquid that is delivered to the surface generating equipment against flashing, the pump having a novel long tailpipe suspended therefrom which extends deep into the well.

  • Patent number: 4033003
Abstract: A method of providing an undercut "bowtie" slot in the head of a fastener such as a screw or bolt, and the resulting interim and final fastener products. The method consists of only two heading steps, starting with either a preform or a simple blank. In the first heading step a forming blow is applied which produces a "bowtie" shaped slot having side walls that are not undercut and a single, continuous ellipsoidal bulge projecting upwardly from the head adjacent to and substantially coextensive with each edge of the slot. In the second heading step a forming blow is applied which compresses the material of the ellipsoidal bulges down into the head to form a radiused undercut slot configuration that is continuous and substantially coextensive with the length of the slot.

  • Patent number: 4008332
Abstract: A microcidal liquid chemical combination for the controlled release of formaldehyde in intimate association with surfaces to be disinfected. The principal ingredients of the combination are 2-Hydroxymethyl-2-Nitro-1,3-Propanediol (hereinafter for convenience referred to as HNP), the active ingredient for releasing formaldehyde, formalin to prevent premature decomposition of the HNP, a pH adjusting agent to retain the HNP in its active state, and a hydroscopic material to keep the HNP moist for continued activity.

  • Patent number: 3998144
Abstract: A coffee making apparatus is disclosed for automatically mixing instant coffee and for maintaining the coffee hot during dispensing thereof. The coffee is housed within an urn similar to that utilized for drip coffee although simpler in construction and designed specifically for instant or freeze-dried applications. Provisions are also made for dispensing hot water.

  • Patent number: 3957930
Abstract: The present invention relates to a carburetor, and more particularly relates to an improved carburetor for a high-performance engine. Improved performance is provided in part by fixedly positioning the fuel dispensing element in an optimal location of the carburetor's airstream -- regardless of how the airstream varies with the engine operation. Moreover, the disclosed carburetor has a structure that minimizes or eliminates internal flutter that previously produced inconsistent fuel flow. The disclosed carburetor further includes novel fuel purge valve means that is automatically operative upon engine shut-down to drain the remaining fuel from the carburetor so as to prevent flooding during subsequent start-up.

  • Patent number: 3951096
Abstract: An improved, belt-driven stern drive for boats of the type sometimes referred to as an "inboard-outboard" or a "through-transom" drive. The invention includes a wide, thin, highly-tensioned power drive belt disposed in a housing having an upper power input portion, a lower prop shaft hub portion, and intermediate housing fins. The housing is vertically, transversely split so as to provide quick-change access to belt and/or gears and for belt tensioning camming movement, the forward and rearward housing sections cooperating to provide wide (in the front-rear direction), laterally thin, hydrodynamically contoured intermediate housing fins having good front-rear shear strength. Lateral strength of the fins is enhanced by a cavitation plate associated with the fins so as to provide lower and upper flow tunnels between the fins for "force feeding" the prop and minimizing drag.
