  • Patent number: 4793483
Abstract: A tray for surgical patties is a sterilizable, impervious planar sheet having a first upper surface with provided notches for supporting sterile surgical patties by the strings. A flat base member extends at an angle to the upper section and has a retaining lip parallel to but opposite the first upper section. Non-penetrating fastening such as smooth jawed alligator clips are provided at the upper corners of the tray permitting the tray to be suspended from the surgical drapes immediately adjacent the operating area. Holders on the outer edges of the tray are provided to hold an electric cautery, cutter and forceps. The tray permits the ready identification and removal of individual patties directly by the surgeon during the course of the operation significantly simplifying the surgeon's actions during the intricate operational procedures.

  • Patent number: 4777781
Abstract: An apparatus for increasing the volumetric efficiency of a shipping container of standard tire carcasses is shown as a powered attachment to a standard warehouse tug or forklift. A horizontally extending steel plate, extending forward from the front of the tug, is powered for vertical motion by a double action, two stage hydraulic cylinder. The plate is enclosed by tightly fitting sliding stripper bars, which are spring-loaded into both the top and bottom surface of the plate; the stripper bars have a bronze wiper bushing at the point of contact with the plate, and are powered for wiping motion across the plate by a pair of balanced hydraulic cylinders.A vertical set of powered outriggers is installed on vertically acting hydraulic cylinders to provide a reacting force against the roof or side wall corners of a shipping container. In use, a standard, interleaved rick of tires is installed in a normal manner within a container.

  • Patent number: 4775157
Abstract: A deck of playing cards having fifty-two cards consisting of varying numbers of the letters b, i, n, g, and o in three suit colors is shown. The cards are used in a card game which combines the random dealing of a fixed number of cards and discard and draw of a variable number of cards to maximize the spelling of a specific word with increased points for all letters in the same color and partial points for a partial spelling of the word.

  • Patent number: 4754845
Abstract: A step ladder is shown, having a rigidified step section, a strengthened upper platform, two independently articulated angled rear legs, supported by a pair of rigid, pivoting supports. The angle of extension of the rear legs creates, in conjunction with the front step section of the step ladder, an essentially equilateral, triangular footprint of increased stability. The individual legs, in cooperation with a strengthened, rigid top plate structure, and the single member rigid support strut produces a decreased likelihood that the ladder will "walk" or move under the shifting weight of a user. The triangular footprint creates increased static stability, and also reduces the likelihood of toppling as a result of movement of a person standing on or near the upper step. The support leg actuation linkage is vertically fixed along a linkage support shaft. By fixing the linkage in three dimensions, torsional rigidity is maintained between the independent legs and walking motion is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4739574
Abstract: A turtle exclusion device is inserted in a trawl body of a shrimp trawl net immediately before the cod end, and permits the ready escape of entrapped marine turtles. The device is a array of angled, spaced bars, oriented in the direction of trawl flow and affixed to the trawl net, supporting the trawl net through a net entry hoop. An arcuate hinged turtle escape door is attached to the excluder at hinge points intermediate the top and the bottom of the net hoop; the door when closed provides a continuous net section preventing the escape of shrimp, yet is readily opened by the weight and force of an escaping turtle, as the turtle naturally rises up the array of excluder bars. The arcuate shape of the doors particularly adapted to the shape of the shell of the turtle and is more readily activated by the turtle's attempts to escape.

  • Patent number: 4735615
Abstract: A clamp for connecting and securing a catheter in position within a tubular structure has a positioning ring and support member to align and slidingly affix the clamp along the catheter and includes a split toothed plastic clamping ring which may be expanded by the application of forceps to enclose the catheter and a section of the tubular structure into which the catheter is inserted and, when released, forms a toothed occlusal seal, enclosing with mild pressure the tubular structure between the clamp and the catheter. The clamp is designed to permit the insertion and securing of a catheter into an opening cut along the length of the tubular structure, by providing a passage or gap for the passage of the distal portion of the tubular structure.

  • Patent number: 4731884
Abstract: An article of wearing apparel is constructed having a full conical skirt, a close fitting waist and bodice, and a wide neck strap section, enclosed within a pair of moveable cloth shaping rings. The dress is constructed in three sewn panels of four-way stretchable fabric. The stretch of the fabric, the combination of close fitting bodice and waist and full skirt section, and the manipulation of the strap gathering rings permits the dress to be worn as a strap or strapless dress, as a dress having a crisscross neck or a keyhole neck, with wide or narrow shoulder straps, as a strapless dress or as a pantsuit form. The dress is capable of achieving a multiplicity of appearances.

  • Patent number: 4726149
Abstract: An installable window protector, for protecting windows against flying debris incident to severe storms is provided for metal extrusion frame windows. A rectangular sheet of plywood, sized to the internal dimensions of the window frame, is provided with two, vertically in line handles in the lower third section to permit the entire sheet to be readily twisted and manipulated by an individual standing within the window. The end of the sheet opposite to the location of the handles is provided with a tapered edge and at a location approximately at a lower third dividing line of the sheet two opposed extendable deadbolts are installed. The sheet is easily installed to cover the exterior of the window by a person standing in the house, by opening the window and manipulating the sheet by means of holding both handles so as to pass the sheet to the outside of the window. The sheet then may be readily engaged with the top lip of the metal window frame, the taper serving to guide the sheet into place.

  • Patent number: 4693011
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring an angle has a first planar bar member upon the edges of which are inscribed reciprocal angular scales corresponding to the tangent of an angle established by the position of the apparatus. A sliding measurement bar is maintained in substantially perpendicular relationship by an interlocking tongue and groove joint, and has an indicator for reading the set angle against the two planar scales. The tongue and groove joint and the two scales permit the apparatus to be constructed as a flat based planar device for both measuring an angle and transferring the measured angle from a physical object to a blue print or drawing of the object measured. Perpendicular spirit levels are placed in the sliding bar to allow the angle measuring device to be used with respect to horizontal or vertical positions for measuring the angle of actual physical construction such as beams or pipes.

  • Patent number: 4657441
Abstract: An improved drive shoe is shown for installation on the penetrating end of a string of conductor pipe, for improving driving penetration through soil. The improved shoe has a reinforced cylindrical driving section. A symmetrical, toothed beveled penetration end improves penetration through loose and unconsolidated media, and minimizes displacement resistance by symmetrically displacing soil to both the inner bore of the conductor pipe and externally along the outer surface of the conductor pipe. A repeating pattern of straight exterior vertical bar segments breaks up the exterior soil, easing passage of the conductor pipe through the soil. A spiral inner bar section within the drive shoe breaks adhesion of the center soil plug to the bore of the conductor pipe by imparting a loosening and a twisting moment to the core plug.

  • Patent number: 4488702
Abstract: An improved metering valve, or flush valve, incorporates a rolling diaphragm mechanism of a cylindrical elastromeric material providing a smoothly transitioning flow rate control from the full open to the full close position. The rolling diaphragm sealing means is actuated by a floating cup driven by the differential pressure between the valve fluid inlet and an intermediate actuation control chamber. The valve control is spring biased to the normally closed position and is actuated by dumping all fluid from the control chamber through a poppet mechanism which is triggered mechanically through a sealing diaphragm. Upon dumping fluid from the metering chamber, the actuating cup is compressed by the pressure of the inlet fluids to roll the diaphragm to a substantially open position.
