Abstract: An interactive program guide system is provided. The program guide system displays a program guide grid on a user's television equipment. The grid contains rows of television program listings for various channels. Columns in the grid are associated with the scheduled start times of the listed programs. The grid also contains non-program listings. Non-program listings rows contain selectable non-program options, such as options related to weather or sports information. The user can select a given one of the selectable non-program options by positioning a highlight region on one of the options and pressing an appropriate key on a remote control. When the system receives the corresponding command from the remote control, the system displays additional information for the selected non-program option on the user's display screen.

Abstract: A system is provided in which an interactive television program guide is implemented on user television equipment. Potentially objectionable material such as the titles and descriptions of adult programs may be blocked. When adult program listing blocking is invoked, the program guide replaces adult program listings with unobjectionable material such as a blank region, a generic unobjectionable program listing, or an unobjectionable title based on the channel being blocked. The user may invoke blocking of titles, descriptions, or both titles or descriptions. Blocking may be based on the rating of the program listings. Access may be provided to blocked program listings by entering a parental control code. The user may temporarily disable adult program listing blocking. The user may also set parental control locks for any type of potentially objectionable programming and may temporarily disable such locks.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing registration at a remote site that may include, for example, a monitoring module that may communicate with a remote site. A registration protocol may be used by the monitoring module and the remote site in generating the messages communicated during the registration process. The monitoring module may gather and generate various identification information to be included in the registration protocol messages. The registration information provided by the monitoring module may be stored at the remote site in a database server having a database. A confirmation message may be communicated from the remote site to the monitoring module that may either acknowledge successful registration or report that an error occurred during the registration process.

Abstract: A reconfigurable computer system based on programmable logic is provided. A system design language may be used to write applications. The applications may be automatically partitioned into software components and programmable logic resource components. A virtual computer operating system may be provided to schedule and allocate system resources. The virtual computer operating system may include a virtual logic manager that may increase the capabilities of programmable logic resources in the system.

Abstract: A system is provided in which an interactive television program guide is implemented on user television equipment such as a set-top box. The program guide provides an operator showcase in the form of one or more operator showcase television listings screens, each of which contains a set of television listings information. The sets of television listings information are generated by querying a database of television listings data in a database in the set-top box. Each database query is based on content criteria previously selected by the cable system operator or other service provider. The service provider is also able to define the format with which the television listings information is displayed in the television listings screens. A title and logos may also be selected by the service provider for each screen. The operator showcase television listings screens may therefore by customized and branded by the service provider.

Abstract: An interactive television program guide system is provided in which a viewer may direct a television to simultaneously display a selected television program, a program guide display, and a program guide video window. A viewer may use the program guide video window to browse video of programs shown on the program guide display while continuing to view a previously selected program in the background. The program guide display may display video on demand (VOD) programs, programs to be broadcast in the future, and programs currently being broadcast on other channels. The viewer may browse through programs on the program guide display using a variety of keys on a remote control unit. The viewer may direct the program guide to swap audio and video signals back and forth between programs shown in the video window and programs shown on the background screen.

When a user selects an advertisement, the program guide provides the user with an opportunity to order products or services, request information, set reminders for upcoming programs, view program descriptions, record programs, or take other such actions.

For interconnecting signals to, from, and between the LABs, the global interconnection resources may include switch boxes, long lines, double lines, single lines, and half- and partially populated multiplexer regions. The LAB includes two levels of function blocks. In a preferred embodiment, there is one four-input second-level function block for every four-input first-level function blocks. At least one tri-state buffer is provided in each LAB. Each tri-state buffer may receive a data signal either from one or more function blocks in the associated LAB or from one or more interconnection conductors adjacent to the LAB. The tri-state buffer may buffer one of the received data signals and apply the resulting buffered signal to one or more of the interconnection conductors adjacent to the LAB.

The program data is collected at a main facility that distributes the program data to television distribution facilities for use in passive or interactive electronic television program guides. The system allows personnel at television station office computers to access a database of program data maintained at the main facility and to construct program schedules electronically using this database. The system error checks the program schedules in real time as they are constructed. The system allows reports, such as ad trafficking reports for use by television station personnel, to be generated based on the program schedule of a given television system.

Abstract: A programmable logic array integrated circuit device includes a plurality of regions of programmable logic disposed on the device in a two-dimensional array of intersecting rows and columns of such regions. Each row has a plurality of adjacent horizontal conductors, and each column has a plurality of adjacent vertical conductors. The regions in a row are interspersed with groups of local conductors which interconnect the adjacent regions and the associated horizontal and vertical conductors. The local conductors can also be used for intra-region communication, as well as communication between adjacent regions. Secondary signals such as clocks and clears for the regions can be drawn either from dedicated secondary signal conductors or normal region inputs. Memory cell requirements for region input signal selection are reduced by various techniques for sharing these memory cells.
