  • Patent number: 4861014
Abstract: In handling flat sheets as for example from a sheet processing machine to a downstacker a plurality of narrow parallel belt conveyors are necessarily employed. Non-uniformity in manufacture of the belts and different slippage on the pulleys causes unequal speed of travel of the individual belts resulting in improper and unequal handling. Utilizing a lower set of conveyor driving belts on which are super-imposed overlapping driven carrier belts overcomes this problem by producing uniform speed of travel of the belts.

  • Patent number: 4805890
Abstract: A machine for handling flat sheets employs a pair of conveyors in series to receive the sheets from a processing machine and to deliver them to a downwardly moving platform to form a stack thereon and to deliver the stack so formed. Both conveyors operate at a predetermined initial speed to deliver to the platform until a predetermined number of sheets is received from the processing machine. At that point both conveyors are speeded up for a short interval to clear the first conveyor and then the first conveyors is tilted upwards and slowed down which stops the flow to the second conveyor and accumulates the sheets on the first conveyor. The second conveyor continues at a high speed to complete the stack on the platform. The sheets are then discharged from the platform. The first conveyor is returned to its original angle of tilt and both conveyors are returned to their original speeds and the platform returns to its original height to start forming a new stack.

  • Patent number: 4493235
Abstract: A rotary web shearing machine equipped with pairs of rotating helical blades, the improvement for adjusting the clearance between the blades which makes it unnecessary to adjust the blades by their individual holders while the machine is stationary, but makes it possible to effect this adjustment without shutting down the machine. This is accomplished either by providing that one of the blades remains in a fixed axial position, while the companion cutting blade holding shaft is moved axially with respect to the fixed blade. This is accomplished by the novel mechanism on the end of the shaft of said blade mounted in a special bearing and housing and equipped with an adjusting screw and nut which permits imparting of axial motion to the shaft while it is in rotation if desired and thus effecting a variation in the clearance between the pair of helical blades eliminating the necessity of shutting the machine down and resorting to manual adjustment of the blade holders to effect proper clearance.

  • Patent number: 4481905
Abstract: An aquarium tank has positioned internally on its bottom a combined aerating and purifying cartridge containing suitable filtering media. An air supply is introduced in a dual direction to the interior of the cartridge creating an even circulating flow up a centrally fitted hollow stack positioned on the upper section of the cartridge and thereby creating a suction on the interior of the cartridge. This causes water in the aquarium to flow downward to the cartridge, carrying particles of impurities with it and then the flow is circulated through the inlet holes in the cartridge and thereafter through the filter media contained within it where the impurities are removed. The cartridge is readily removed through the top of the tank without disturbing a gravel bed in which it is positioned. The cartridge is surrounded by a perforated cylindrical retaining wall held in position by the surrounding gravel bed.
