  • Patent number: 4718962
Abstract: There are millions of shower curtains in use in the United States to confine the flow of water used for bathing purposes, and to keep the water from escaping from a bathtub or shower stall and wetting the adjacent floor. Shower curtains are preferably made of waterproof fabric or a plastic material and there are hooks slidably mounted on rods aligned with the front of the tub or shower stall. The top edge of the shower curtain is generally folded over to reinforce it, and the hooks project through holes in the top edge of the shower curtain. Due to the weight of the curtain and the small diameter of the hooks which hold the curtain a high loading is imposed on restricted areas of the curtain aligned with the hooks. The holes become elongated and tear out long before the remaining portions of the average shower curtain is worn out.

  • Patent number: 4713929
Abstract: In the operation of certain agricultural and industrial pursuits an excess of various chemicals results. For example, an excess of phosphorus results from the use of fertilizers in the general farming operations of stimulate the growing of grass in the dairy rich areas of central Florida. This excess quantity of phosphorus finds its way into the streams and rivers, and contaminates any of the streams and bodies of water that receive the outflow of these chemically rich waters. For example, the Kissimmee River flows through the dairy rich lands of central Florida and contaminates Lake Okeechobee into which they flow. Many other chemicals used as lubricants and additives in industrial operations that also are discharged into the various bodies of water are harmful to the fish and aquatic plants whose presence is necessary to recycle and purify the water.

  • Patent number: 4700477
Abstract: A throw away razor type eyebrow trimmer having a narrow straight cutting surface has front and rear guards to reduce the danger of cutting the skin with the sharp edge of a razor blade. The guards pull the skin tight between the guards to render the trimming more manageable and precise. The eyebrow trimmer consists of three basic elements, (1) the razor blade, (2) the front safety head guard for the razor, and (3) the rear safety head guard. In use, the front safety head guard depresses and stretches the skin between it and the rear safety head guard which rides above the razor blade thus facilitates easier and better removal of hair. The eyebrow trimmer is mounted at a comfortable operating angle on a handle having a textured grip for easy holding and manipulation of the eyebrow trimmer, and by using a mirror the party using the trimmer can have a clear view of the eyebrow curving and trimming operation as it progresses.

  • Patent number: 4678068
Abstract: Automobile theft is running rampant throughout the country, and many automobile stealing organizations are well organized, and have the necessary techniques to enable them to select and steal virtually any automobile. In a matter of a few hours they can change numbers, and other identifying data and give the automobile a new identity and appearance so that the automobile can be quickly sold at somewhat reduced prices. The overall profits are indeed very substantial. We have devised a theft proof locking system, including a key operated unit, which can be positioned at any desired location in the vehicle, and is operable to fully apply the brakes to all four wheels of the vehicle. This renders the vehicle immobile, even though the engine can be started and run. The only way that this locking system can be rendered inoperable is by the act of unlocking it with the key. It is therefore impossible to move the vehicle without lifting it bodily to load it onto a trailer or transport.

  • Patent number: 4649663
Abstract: I have found that a very desirable arrangement with reference to a slip sinker slidably mounted on a line consists of a length of pliable plastic material extending through and secured to an elongated tapered body. The line extends through this plastic sleeve and the line is free to move within the sinker. The plastic sleeve extends completely through the sinker and projects a short distance of 1/32 of an inch on opposite sides thereof so that the line can freely move through the plastic liner without being frayed or abraded which could weaken the line.

  • Patent number: 4619032
Abstract: In the Fibrestone Building Construction a thin fiber reinforced wall formed of sprayed concrete and short lengths of fibers, such as glass fibers, forms the outer shell of the wall exposed to atmosphere. An inner load supporting structure is secured to the inner surface of the outer shell. This load supporting structure consists for example of a metal frame aligned with the inner surface of the shell, and spaced metal studs. A differential of temperature exists between the outer surface of the fiber reinforced shell subjected to atmospheric temperatures and the inner load supporting structure because the inner members are shielded from atmospheric temperatures by the outer shell. The outer and inner members of the wall being formed of different materials have different coefficients of expansion when subjected to varying temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4597146
Abstract: An improved method of making lead or tin based alloy badges or emblems having brilliantly colored closely spaced cloisonned areas into which the desired colors can be introduced. The cloisonned areas separate the differently colored sections from each other by the formation of slight ridges or low fences into which the differently colored paints can be introduced. After the differently colored paints or other colorings have been introduced into the cloisonned areas and dried, the badge or emblem is polished to expose the ridges or fences separating the cloisonned areas and any other raised areas which it is desired to emphasize. The badge or emblem is then plated with an appropriate plating to cover the raised cloisonned areas and any other raised areas which it is desired to highlight. The resulting badges or emblems have clearly defined brilliantly colored sections and embody remarkable detailed structures.

  • Patent number: 4577890
Abstract: In the higher priced grade of books, which for example are known generally as the "hard copies" as distinguished from the more economically priced so-called "paper backs", it is customary to protect the books by a so-called dust shield or protective book cover. These protective covers are generally highly colored and carry a pictorial image of the author, or of some primary incident in the story. When it is necessary to put down the book without finishing reading it in one sitting, it is desirable to have a book marker so that one's place can be quickly and easily found so that the story can be continued without regression. Frequently a portion of a page of newspaper or magazine is torn off to provide a small book marker. By the present invention a narrow perforated edge of the fold under flap of the book cover may be torn off from the dust shield or cover and used as a book marker to mark one's place in the book.

  • Patent number: 4571953
Abstract: A small self contained refrigerator unit having a small water filtration unit in the refrigerator to provide filtered and cooled drinking water that is free from offensive odors and tastes, and is filtered to remove all offensive impurities. In thousands of business establishments and in homes the proprietors purchase bottled water, and have to contend with the inconvenience of lifting heavy bottles and periodically purchasing additional quantities of bottled water. By providing a small water treatment device in a refrigerator, the proprietor or homeowner is assured at all times of having cool good tasting water of better than bottle water quality for drinking and other purposes. It is unnecessary to open the refrigerator door to get drinking water because the delivery spout is conveniently located on top of the refrigerator which is low and provides a convenient work surface at table height.

  • Patent number: 4554124
Abstract: In the Fibrestone Building Construction the outer or exterior shell or panel is formed of a plastic material such as concrete reinforced by a high concentration of fibers, such as glass or other fibrous material randomly disbursed in the mass of the moldable material such as concrete. If desired the fibers can be chopped up to accelerate their bonding in the mass of the moldable material. This moldable material and the fibrous reinforcement may be sprayed under pressure into a mold having a surface which it is desired to reproduce. The surface of the mold is reproduced faithfully, and a relatively thin but strong outer shell embodying the desired contour is thus formed. This outer shell or wall is assembled in a horizontal position, with its outer face down, with a frame of substantially uniform thickness throughout. All necessary insulation, wall reinforcements, appliance fittings, door and window cutouts and spaces for wall connectors and utility outlets are installed within the thickness of the framework.
