  • Patent number: 6851907
Abstract: A binding machine and method for spirally binding a sheaf of papers into a book uses an adjustable speed drive to rotate a flexible plastic spiral element into respective holes in the book. The book has a plurality of holes in a row adjacent one edge of the book to receive the leading edge of the spiral bonding elements. A cylindrically shaped mandrel is spaced apart from a glidable block. The plastic pre-formed spiral binding element is fed onto the mandrel from the distal end thereof, with the leading edge of the binding element facing and spaced apart from the book. A pair of leading edge spreaders, one of which has a guidance groove, engages the plastic spiral to spread its coils just enough to permit it to enter the successive holes of a sheaf to be bound. A trailing spreader at the opposite end insures that the last hole is accommodated with a portion of the spiral coil.

  • Patent number: 6836907
Abstract: A solid mesh swimming pool cover incorporates a mesh layer that has been successfully used as a porous mesh cover for several years with a thin impermeable base layer. A two-step polymer coating process seals the mesh to produce a solid safety swimming pool cover of unusual light weight and durability with an abrasion resistant bottom layer that has a low coefficient of friction to facilitate easy removal. The base layer is a plastic or resin product, such as a co-polymer resin, and the top layer is a mesh pool cover fabric, such as polypropylene. Ultraviolet (UV) inhibitors added to both coating step materials insure an extended service life. Since the mesh used for the centrally located mesh panels in the drain type solid cover of this invention uses the same mesh as the rest of the non-porous cover, it is more aesthetically pleasing since it blends in with the rest of the cover.

  • Patent number: 6802604
Abstract: A clip is integrally formed with or attached to each temple piece of a pair of eyeglass, to hold the eyeglasses to a garment, such as a pocket of a shirt or a belt. The pocket clip member resists torsional bending stresses caused by the constant on and off insertion or removal of the eyeglasses and clip to and from shirt pockets or other attachments. The cantilevered clip is twisted and stressed when the clip holds the eyeglass frame to the shirt pocket in a strong bond. However, the clip is adapted to undergo controlled elastic deformation from an unstressed configuration in response to torsional bending and twisting stress when the clip is inserted or removed from the pocket. The clip is further adapted to resiliently return to the unstressed configuration upon removal of the torsional bending and twisting stress, when fully inserted or removed from the pocket.

  • Patent number: 6799498
Abstract: A micro adjuster laterally moves a paper punch die. A modified fixed bracket with a larger fine-threaded hole is used to retain a hollow micro adjuster screw which is engaged by the fine threads of the bracket. The retaining screw that attaches to the die now does so by being inserted through the hollow body of the micro adjuster screw and out of a clearance hole at the distal end. Fine lateral adjustments of lateral alignment between the paper to be punched and the die can now be performed by moving the die laterally.

  • Patent number: 6749014
Abstract: A heat exchanger is mounted external to a section of flue pipe or is an integral part of a section of flue pipe. The heat exchanger preheats a domestic hot water supply and boosts the return water temperature prior to reentry to the furnace coil. The heat exchanger reduces fuel use, pollution and wear of the furnace and burner. A typical heat exchanger installation includes an oil or gas burner located on a furnace or boiler having a flue pipe leading to a gaseous outlet, such as a masonry chimney. A short vertical flue section leads to a draft-regulating damper. The flue heat exchanger may be a coil of tubing wrapped around flue section, such that the tubing picks up heat from the heated flue gasses. Preheated water exits from the heat exchanger.
