Abstract: An online primary database is automatically configured to enable a physically consistent snapshot of the primary database at the secondary database to be uniquely mirrored to a secondary remote database as backup while allowing the specialized control audit images to be created at the primary database.

Abstract: A method of detecting a fault or a potential fault of a DBMS operating in a clustered environment is provided. The DBMS includes a log of diagnostic information that is related to the status of the DBMS. At predetermined intervals, monitoring of the log of diagnostic information is conducted for at least one of a plurality of predefined conditions occurring anywhere in the clustered environment. The predefined conditions are related to a fault or a potential fault of the DBMS. Before a fault of the DBMS occurs, the presence of at least one of the predefined conditions in the log is detected. A response to the detected predefined condition (e.g., a fail-over) is provided.

Abstract: Many document files in different formats can be downloaded from websites which can be selected for their specific content using search items as a Verity Search Engine and Web Server. After downloading into a user-workstation, a topic search would not be ordinarily feasible to search files of different formats. The present system and method enables topic searching by converting the different file formats into a common format such as PDF which then can easily be topic-searched by a browser such as an Adobe Acrobat program.

Abstract: The method of the present invention is useful in a computer system including a server accessing a database and connected to a magnetic tape drive and operates to expedite the retrieval of audit files on tape while performing a database recovery. The program executes a method for locating a group of audit files of a database that is backed-up on magnetic tape media. The method includes the steps of creating a Tapeset for the group of audit files, initializing a disk directory file which holds positional information of the Tapeset, and locating each of the audit files within the group of audit files using the positional information contained in the disk directory file.

By the optimization of the Metafarm is herein meant the process of finding the optimum values of the selected optimization parameters (such as a number of Server Farms and/or a Redundancy Factor value) that deliver the optimum value for the selected optimization criterion (such as Server Metafarm availability) and a given set of input data.

Abstract: The method of the present invention is useful in a computer system executing a Java application and a hierarchical database. The program executes a method for providing data access from the Java application to the hierarchical database. The method includes the steps of determining JDBC type, Java class name, and metadata values for the Java application to represent a given column in a result set on the hierarchical database. Next, there is a closing of all embedded result sets for the column.

Abstract: It is most desirable that the registry files of a local computer platform be in instant synchronism with the registry files of a remote backup computer platform. The present invention provides a component object that can monitor a user-specified registry key on a local computer platform and operate to duplicate that registry key, on an instant update basis, at the remote backup platform whenever the local registry key undergoes a change.

Abstract: The method of the present invention is useful in a computer system including at least one client. The program executes a method for matching a pattern string with a target string, where either string can contain single or multi-character wild cards. The method includes the steps of preprocessing the pattern string into a prefix segment, a suffix segment, and zero or more interior segments. Next, matching the prefix segment, the suffix segment, and the interior segment(s) with the target string.

Abstract: A system and method using a timer management module for managing a circular queue having N Fixed Timer Entries (FTEs) to enable dynamic capacity increase of size M by extending the pointer array referencing the circular queue by M, copying the first “Current Timer Index” entries to the extended pointer array entries, allocating M FTEs, and linking the M FTEs within the circular queue.

Abstract: A method is provided to establish affinity for each pair of processors with a specific processor bus which eliminates the need for cross-bus operations in cache invalidation operations. Each pair of processors in the network is exercised for elapsed time of cache update cycle completion. Those pairs having the minimal execution times are then selected for utilization of applications to be executed.

Abstract: A specialized computer program is utilized to operate apparatus for testing internal components of an integrated circuit package. A Peltier-junction module is controlled so as to ramp-up and ramp-down the temperature of an integrated circuit package while reading out and plotting the power-bus-ground resistance of the package during the up-ramp and down-ramp cycles. The computer screen then indicates a characteristic graph for a properly working package and erratic graph for a package having a short circuit or open circuit components.

Abstract: In an Automatic Fault Management System which monitors components on multiple platforms and workstations, an Electronic Service Generator operates to sense error events and selects an appropriate Formatter unit to develop a report packet for a Remote Service Unit.

Abstract: A printer housing assembly provides dual in-line cartridges separated by a pre-set distance. Drive belts are used to pass documents such as checks at a high rate of speed past the nozzles of the dual cartridges. A delayed firing mechanism is provided between the two cartridges so that each cartridge will print exactly the same marking on the same spot of each document as it passes by. Further enhancements and contrast quality can also be developed by use of multiple cartridges more than just two cartridges which are placed in a specialized phased relationship to develop “dot-on-dot” printing of the same target by each individual cartridge.

Abstract: A circular queue is created with N Fixed Timer Entries associated with a specific address pointer for each entry. An association is developed to relate each fixed entry pointer to its just previous pointer and to its just next occurring pointer. A selected transient New Timer Entry can be inserted between any two selected adjacent Fixed Timer Entries without need to sequence serially through the entire set of fixed entries.

Abstract: Parametric data accumulation means are accumulated in a Terminal Server data file which uses a performance measurement tool program to accumulate operational data occurring in multiple client users which operate on a Terminal Server. Data is accumulated in regard to the log-on time for multiple and various different types of application programs. Each of these parameters are evaluated over a sequence of different operating conditions during periods where the parametric evaluations occur when there is a small number of client users and then over a sequence of expanded operations until there is a large number of concurrent active client users. Subsequently, the Terminal Server data file is formatted and categorized into a database which is used to create a graphical chart of performance plus specific lists of performance for each client-user correlated to each available Application Program.

Abstract: While multiple different document files on a CD-ROM can occur in several different file formats, there is no efficient way to topic-search these differently formatted files since search engines can only operate on one particular type of formatted file. The present method operates to convert the multiple file formats into one common file format (Portable Document Format) which then can be suitably searched by a browser program, such as Adobe Acrobat.

Abstract: An automatic fault management system can monitor multiple platforms in a digital network to sense software and hardware malfunctions. An Event Log stores the details of each malfunction and enables an electronic service requester generator to develop formatted packets of information for transmittal to a remote service center. Administrative and monitor screens are made available to control and view each packet sent out and its status of receipt and return acknowledgment data.

Abstract: A system and method using a timer management module for managing a circular queue having fixed timer entries and temporary new timer entries to enable location of specified new timer entries which can then be deleted at the appropriate time in timer management operations.
