Patent number: 4543206Abstract: There is disclosed a nail lacquer and enamel remover, composed primarily of methylene chloride combined with various other ingredients such as amyl acetate, butyl acetate, ethyl acetate or acetone and kaydol, aerosol, methyl glucose ether or water. The improvement of the invention as compared with other nail polish removers is that the instant compositions are non-flammable. Such characteristics is not overly important to the product's end user, but represents a significant advance to commercial entities engaged in the specialty cosmetics business, in that manufacture, transport and storage of the product are made safer and less expensive.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1984Date of Patent: September 24, 1985Inventor: Cornell L. Adams

Patent number: 4411920Abstract: A process for baking food such as pizza pies for fast food operations comprises prebaking fresh pies to a predetermined time in a baking chamber, storing the prebaked pies in a holding chamber under a controlled temperature and humidity, which humidity being controlled by steam injection and finally baking the stored pies to completion at the peak demand. Said prebaking and final baking can be carried out by placing pies on a turntable of a turntable oven to travel for a fraction of a turn for prebaking and for the remainder of the turn for final baking.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1981Date of Patent: October 25, 1983Inventor: Bernard F. Fenoglio

Patent number: 4305329Abstract: A gas-fired turntable oven for baking food such as pizza pies for fast food operations comprises a lower baking chamber and an upper holding chamber. Fresh pies are placed onto the turntable in the baking chamber and are baked to completion as they travel one revolution on the turntable. Partially baked pies having completed a predetermined fraction of a revolution on the turntable, may be removed from the baking chamber and kept warm in the holding chamber, to be later returned to the baking chamber and baked to completion while travelling the remaining fraction of a revolution on the turntable. This oven enables the cook to serve many pies in a short time during periods of peak demand.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1980Date of Patent: December 15, 1981Inventor: Bernard F. Fenoglio

Patent number: 4045961Abstract: Damage to steam condensers resulting from freezing of condensate when operating at below freezing ambient air temperature and at low steam flow rates and/or low ambient temperatures is prevented by causing air or other non-condensible inert gas or gases to accumulate in tubes and/or headers of the condenser for a period of time sufficient to substantially lower the heat transfer capacity of the condenser but insufficient to cause damage due to freezing of condensate. The accumulation is caused by shutting off the air takeoff from condensate headers and/or introducing additional air or other non-condensible gas into the apparatus for a controlled, predetermined period of time.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1975Date of Patent: September 6, 1977Assignee: The Lummus CompanyInventor: Willem Schoonman

Patent number: 4020772Abstract: The disclosure describes wall for a direct fired heater which burns high sulfur fuels. The wall includes an inner casing lined internally with refractory and an outer casing spaced from the inner casing to provide, air space therebetween and means for controlling the rate of air flow thru the space. Proper selection of the refractory and proper control of the rate of air flow assure that the temperature of the inner casing is maintained above the dew points of sulfur oxides for any ambient condition. The casings are joined at their upper ends and an air opening is provided at the lower end of the outer casing whereby air is admitted to the air space. An adjustable air vent is provided at the upper end of the outer casing for control of casing temperature, when necessary. A plurality of horizontal baffles extend from the inner casing outward into the air space to inhibit re-circulation of air in the air space.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1976Date of Patent: May 3, 1977Assignee: The Lummus CompanyInventors: Thomas F. O'Sullivan, Paul Korwin

Patent number: 3946114Abstract: Yeast is produced by fermenting hydrocarbons in an aqueous nutrient medium which includes sulfate, chloride and phosphate ions. When the fermentation is completed the nutrient medium has become depleted in mineral content and a large portion of it is purged. A calcium source is added to precipitate the phosphate ion out as calcium phosphate. The precipitated calcium phosphate is added to the yeast, which in itself is an excellent source of protein. The resulting product is suitable for use as an enriched animal feed. Meanwhile the removal of the phosphate ion eliminates a pollutant from the purge stream.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1973Date of Patent: March 23, 1976Assignee: The Lummus CompanyInventor: Utah Tsao

Patent number: 3938475Abstract: This disclosure teaches a direct fired heater with a double casing. The double casing includes a somewhat conventional inner casing having a burner penetrating therethrough and an outer casing spaced from the inner casing to form a passage in flow communication between the atmosphere and the burner. The outer casing surrounds the burner and is provided with an acoustic inner surface to minimize escape of noise. Design of refractory linings with respect to thickness and density allows for maintenance of skin temperature of the inner casing above the condensation ranges of SO.sub.2 and SO.sub.3.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1975Date of Patent: February 17, 1976Assignee: The Lummus CompanyInventors: Thomas F. O'Sullivan, Henricus J. Knol
