Patent number: 6795989Abstract: An assist device for facilitating bedding changes on a mattress includes an inflatable pneumatic bladder adapted to be positioned under a mattress. The bladder has a length and width somewhat less than those of the mattress. The pneumatic bladder is enclosed and is provided with an opening which is in fluid flow communication with a source of compressed gas, preferably a compressor. A switch is provided for controllably activating flow of compressed gas from the source into the bladder. The bladder may be configured with recessed sections so that the volume of air or other gas required to inflate said bladder is minimized. An opening to enable escape of compressed gas from the bladder may be provided in the compressor or may be valve extending through a surface of the bladder.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2003Date of Patent: September 28, 2004Inventors: William G. Patent number: 5758655Abstract: A bone biopsy needle assembly which includes a handle having a proximal concave curved surface having an off-center radius producing a first relatively narrow end and a second relatively wide end of the handle. The wide end is curved to conform to the shape of a user's palm, and the narrow end forms a surface to limit lateral slippage in the direction of the user's forefinger. The handle also has a distal surface with a receiving opening. A cannula has a central lumen, with a first end extending into the receiving opening and being connected to the distal surface of the handle toward the relatively narrow end and having a second end extending distally from the handle. A removable stylet is slidably received within the lumen and has a proximal knob carried by the handle.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1995Date of Patent: June 2, 1998Assignee: Allegiance CorporationInventors: Jan L. Patent number: 5549540Abstract: An insert nestingly receivable within a centrifuge cup to support a pair of fluid containing bags therein is formed from a pair of concave shapes having an upper end and a lower end and which are centrally adhered together in back-to-back relationship. The shapes together with an interior surface of the centrifuge cup together form a pair of elliptically shaped chambers for supporting a pair of the bags within the cup. A pair of pins extend through the concave shapes and extend outwardly therefrom. The bags each are provided with a pair of spaced-apart holes to receive the pins, thereby supporting the bags within the elliptically shaped chambers. Preferably a block is fitted between the adhered together surfaces of the shapes at each lateral edge at the lower ends thereof. These blocks preferably extend laterally outwardly beyond the lateral extremities of the shapes, and the edges of the concave shapes and the blocks are rounded to thereby be nestingly receivable in the interior of the cup.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1994Date of Patent: August 27, 1996Assignee: Baxter International Inc.Inventors: Glenn Moore, Caryl Ellis

Patent number: 5476102Abstract: A bone biopsy needle assembly includes an elongated tubular cannula having an axially extending lumen therethrough. A guide is provided to facilitate insertion of a probe into the cannula for sample removal. The guide has a molded shape with an elongated dimension having first and second ends. A cylindrical opening extends through the length of the elongated dimension and has a diameter substantially equal to that of the interior lumen of the cannula. A flared outward enlargement of the cylindrical opening at each of the first and second ends provides for easy alignment of one of the ends with the distal end of the cannula and the other end forms a guide for insertion of a probe into the distal end of the cannula for removal of the biopsy specimen.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1995Date of Patent: December 19, 1995Assignee: Baxter International Inc.Inventors: Jan L. Patent number: 5240614Abstract: The invention employs dual-skinned membranes useful as one way or rectifying membranes which reduce back filtration of solute molecules in dialysis and which improve nutrient supply and product recovery in membrane bioreactors. The membranes are dual-skinned polymeric materials preferably in the form of hollow fibers. The membranes have sieving coefficient characteristics different for flow of liquids in one direction from that in the opposite direction. Improved dialysis devices are formed by using bundles of the hollow fiber membranes as a dialysis means having rectifying properties. Improved bioreactors are formed by using bundles of hollow fiber as a growth vessel having rectifying properties.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1992Date of Patent: August 31, 1993Assignee: Baxter International Inc.Inventors: Normal J. Patent number: 4972174Abstract: A turn signal control circuit has a power source, left and right turn signal inputs, a speed detection input and circuitry for conditioning the power source voltage and current as well as the input signals for proper operation. When a turn signal switch provides an input signal to a logic controller, the circuit begins flashing the respective turn signal. Upon release of the switch, a microprocessor reviews the vehicle speed by way of a speedometer input line and references a lookup table to determine the proper distance at which to turn off the signal. Generally, the faster the vehicle is travelling, the longer the turn signals are left on. Various manual cancellation options are also available to the motorcycle operator. A four-way flasher sysem is operated by simultaneously pushing the two turn signal switches, remaining on until both switches are again simultaneously pressed.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1989Date of Patent: November 20, 1990Inventors: Lance C. Patent number: 4965430Abstract: A process is provided for preparing a three dimensional object such as a mandrel for forming envelopes for mammary prostheses or other implantable medical device by dipping the mandrel, etc. The envelopes are provided with micropillars on the exterior surface which resembles the mandrel surface in negative relief. According to the process a workpiece of solid stock material such as polymer is provided in the shape of the desired prostheses. It is positioned for rotation on a supporting shaft or other holding mechanism. A pulsing laser beam, directed at the workpiece is moved in a plane parallel to the axis of rotation of the workpiece while the beam is maintained approximately perpendicular to the workpiece surface. The rate of pulsing of the laser beam and the speed of rotation of the workpiece are controlled to produce patterns of blind micro-holes onthe surface of the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1989Date of Patent: October 23, 1990Assignees: Dow Corning Wright Corp., Lumonics Material Processing CorporationInventors: James M.
