  • Patent number: 4737365
Abstract: Zinc oxide and zinc carbonate are dry blended with proteinaceous feeds for dairy cattle and beef cattle to protect the protein against rumen digestion. Although zinc oxide and zinc carbonate have limited water solubility and are not prereacted with the protein, milk production in dairy cattle and rate of weight gain in beef cattle can be increased in relation to protein intake.

  • Patent number: 4736196
Abstract: A system for monitoring the location of an individual is disclosed and includes a band to be strapped to the individual's wrist or ankle. A trigger, transmitter, and antenna are incorporated into the band. The trigger controls operation of the transmitter and activation is effected by a portable authority-retained control unit. The trigger deactivates the transmitter under predetermined conditions (such as removal of the band) and reactivation requires utilization of the control unit.

  • Patent number: 4736208
Abstract: A device for measuring the contour of a surface along a scanning line. The device includes an electro-mechanical transducer with a scanner arm on whose free end there is a sensing tip. The other end of the arm is connected, via a pivot bearing whose axis of rotation is parallel to the surface to be scanned and vertical to the scanning line, with an advance mechanism. The advance mechanism moves the pivot bearing along the scanning line. The transducer emits, corresponding to excursions of the sensing tip transverse to the scanning line, a measurement signal that is fed into a recording device. The recording device records the electrical signal on the basis of distance or time. A control device is provided into which the electrical measurement signal is fed. On the basis of the magnitude of the electrical measurement signal, the control device produces an advance or a lag of the advance mechanism or of the time axis of the recording device relative to the advance of the advance mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4733983
Abstract: A fillable toothbrush provided with a handle containing a dispenser for toothpaste is disclosed. One end of the handle is provided with a stem through which a duct is provided from a storage chamber to an outlet adjacent to a brush arranged at the free end of the stem. An actuating element is provided at the end of the handle remote from the stem. When actuated, the actuating element moves a valve that closes off the storage chamber from the duct and pushes toothpaste through the duct to the brush. When the actuating element is released, the valve retracts and permits toothpaste in the storage chamber to flow into the duct. The dispenser toothbrush is of simple design and allows defined quantities of toothpaste to be dispensed in a reliable way.

  • Patent number: 4733663
Abstract: There is provided an improved rongeur having a jaw mechanism comprised of a barrel member having a honed cutting edge on one extremity thereof and having a shaft member located within and arranged for reciprocal motion. On the shaft member there is provided a plate member attached at one extremity to trap bone against the cutting edge. A lever mechanism is provided having paired handle levers joined by a pivot and having the barrel and shaft member attached to the handle levers between the handle portion and the pivot. On the shaft member there is further provided a cavity arranged to slide within the barrel progressively as the cutting operation proceeds, gradually drawing severed bone within the capturing cavity. Stop surfaces are located in the cutting area at a position relative to the cutting edge to avoid direct force contact on the cutting edge when the shaft member is reciprocated to its full extent within the barrel member.

  • Patent number: 4731554
Abstract: A low profile ring-shaped motor has a housing, a bearing support attached to the housing and supporting a rotating shaft carrying a ring-shaped rotor. A ring-shaped stator is secured to the housing and is concentric and between the legs of the U-shaped rotor. The stator is formed by a continuous strip of magnetic material wound and laminated in a toroid and having helical windings therearound. On the inside of the legs of the rotor are mounted a plurality of permanent magnets forming the poles of the motor. Radially opposite magnets are of the same polarity. Control of the switching of the current through the windings is by means of Hall Effect devices sensing the change in polarity of a ring shaped magnet means having the same number of poles as does the permanent magnets.

  • Patent number: 4729474
Abstract: An improved satchel-style tackle box wherein access to the storage compartments can be had through the upper end or through the front wall of the box. Hence with the box of the present invention, there is no need to turn the box over in order to obtain access to all its storage compartments. The elimination of the need to turn the box over is accomplished by adding a pull out drawer to the lower part of the box. One or more storage compartments are then developed in the box above the drawer storage compartment. The projecting edge around the drawer opening in the box cooperate to prevent the rain water and other casual water from getting into the box, between the drawer and the opening, when the drawer is closed. Novel latches secure the drawer in its closed position and assist in preventing the ingress of water into the drawer. The latches are readily moved out of the way when the drawer is to be opened. A handle is mounted on the front wall of the box to facilitate carrying the box.

  • Patent number: 4729451
Abstract: A system for suspending a receiver in a hearing aid and acoustically linking the receiver with the region external to the hearing aid. A shaped mandrel is placed inside the shell of the hearing aid and a liquid material is poured into the shell. The liquid material polymerizes to form an elastomer that is around the mandrel and in contact with the shell. The mandrel is then removed from the shell, leaving a receiver cavity and sound channel. A receiver is inserted into the receiver cavity. The receiver cavity holds the receiver, and the sound channel grippingly engages an acoustic output port on the receiver. The sound channel extends between the receiver and shell, acoustically linking the receiver with the external region.

  • Patent number: 4723599
Abstract: In this heat exchanger, an improvement comprises the following. The fin plates each have louvered portions interposing the aligned openings in the fin plates. The louvered portions in each fin plate define a nominal plane and include a plurality of louvers and a base. The base has base portions including rise portions and flank portions, three each. The rise portions and flank portions alternate with each other in a transverse direction across the width of the fin plate. The rise portions and flank portions form three peaks, which are a central peak and two outer peaks. The peaks are raised in a first direction perpendicular to the nominal plane. The rise portions and flank portions further form two valleys in the opposite, second direction perpendicular to the nominal plane. The valleys are spaced from each other and are each between the central peak and an outer peak. The rise portions are substantially parallel to each other and intersect the nominal plane at a first acute angle.
