Abstract: Disclosed is an assembly for the damping of flexural and torsional vibration in the shafts of machines, for instance in the spindles of machine tools, wherein said spindle or shaft between two bearings thereof is surrounded by a bending resistant sleeve or tube with a clearance defined between both parts, which sleeve rotates with said shaft, whereby the clearance gap is filled with a damping viscous medium, preferably lubricating oil.
