  • Patent number: 4372639
Abstract: A method and apparatus for presenting real-time information for viewing is disclosed wherein a projection lens projects an image of a liquid crystal display onto the surface of a holographic optical element diffuser. The liquid crystal display is driven so as to contain real-time information and is illuminated by substantially monochromatic light. The diffuser diffracts the real-time information to a pupil at a viewing focal plane with preselected illumination intensity so that the real-time information can be viewed in diffuse form anywhere across the pupil.

  • Patent number: 4368118
Abstract: The blood-air separator is for use in the extracorporeal blood bypass during cardio-pulmonary surgery. Air bubbles are separated from the recirculating blood stream by centrifugal force and buoyancy after the stream has left the oxygenator and before it returns to the patient. Separation is accomplished by imparting circular motion to the bloodstream within the separator at a point where air bubbles can move upward and inward, and blood liquid outward and downward. Curved vanes in the blood flow stream cause the circular blood motion.

  • Patent number: 4367911
Abstract: Assembly 10 is formed of base and cover plates 12 and the 16 with dichromated gelatin holographic exposure layer 20 therebetween. Liquid monomer is placed in the assembly and is polymerized to solid polymer layer 22 to form a solid assembly for holographic exposure of dichromated gelatin layer 20. After exposure, heating permits removal of cover plate 16 and polymer layer 22 for subsequent development of the latent image in dichromated gelatin holographic exposure layer 20.

  • Patent number: 4346301
Abstract: A plurality of beam generating units 76, 78, 80 and 82 each produces separated rectangular ion beams for implantation onto a targets 52 and 54 rotatively moving therepast. Each rectangular footprint is long in the direction of motion and is scanned transversely to the direction of motion. A plurality of beam generating units can be positioned adjacent to each other to multiply implant targets because of the compact structure of the separated ion source.

  • Patent number: 4344777
Abstract: The arterial blood filter of this invention is for extra-corporeal bypass during cardio-pulmonary surgery. It has an internal divergent blood flow path from the inlet to smoothly reduce blood flow velocity to permit separation of air bubbles with minimum trauma to blood cells. The upper portion of the blood filter housing permits collection of air bubbles and permits their withdrawal. The inlet and outlet connections to the filter are both on the bottom to ease draping of the connecting tubes.

  • Patent number: 4325240
Abstract: Locking mechanism has both a key setting multiple tumblers to unique positions and a combination wheel for each tumbler so that opening of the lock requires setting each wheel to correspond to its tumbler position. For a single lock, different keys require different combinations. A mechanical recorder records the wheel positions with each lock opening so that all combinations used for access can be read, if necessary.

  • Patent number: 4314703
Abstract: Dartboard has a first game side which is divided into fifty-two dart target spaces with each space carrying indicia corresponding to the fifty-two cards of the standard bridge deck. Each target space has a slot adjacent one end thereof into which a slot card each having one of the indicia of the standard bridge deck is inserted to thus hide the indicia from other players. The dart board is rotatably mounted to increase random chance and with the players taking turns throwing darts, dart games employing rules similar to poker and other card games can be played with the board. The reverse of the board is divided into spaces, each of which carries the indicia of one side of a six-sided die. Thus, by throwing darts to the reverse side of the board, games having rules similar to dice games can be played, but also employing dart-throwing skill.

  • Patent number: 4315153
Abstract: The ExB mass separator provides a magnetic field B normal to the beam path and potential plate for applying an electric field normal to the magnetic field for maintaining the selected ions in beam 32 along a defined path. Along the path, after the major portion of the unwanted species are deflected from the beam, focus plates 34 and 36 focus the selected species toward the separator opening 38.
