  • Patent number: 6324557
Abstract: A combination exercise gripper and calculator includes an electronic calculator, with a keypad, a power source, a visual display means, such as a liquid crystal display, and a calculating computing means, which is responsive to manual input from sequential depression of selected keys of the keypad for determining mathematical calculations. A switch is used to calculate these mathematical inputs. The manual griping means, including a pair of depressible handles, which are forcibly separated by a compressible spring wherein compression of the handles towards each other compresses this spring to provide a resistance against the compression. The switch includes a physical condition sensor, communicating with the calculating means. The switch is responsive to the calculating means upon compression of the handles. A counter is used to count the number of compressions the user has made by squeezing the handles.

  • Patent number: 6142644
Abstract: A portable lamp, such as a flashlight or small reading lamp, has a smooth rotatable light bulb portion that rotates evenly from a closed to an open position. The lamp includes a barrel-shaped illuminator within a main housing. The lamp housing is rotatable between a closed lamp-off position and a full-open lamp-on position in a smooth, slow motion movement from the closed to the open, lamp illuminating position. A torsion coil spring urges the lamp housing to rotate into the full-open position. The torsion coil is mounted in a hollow interior of a drum mounted rotatably within a diameter-matching cylinder, which has an inner surface. The drum has a corresponding outer surface in close proximity to the inner surface of the cylinder. The outer surface of the drum has a damper, such as a coating of friction-producing grease, which provides a fluid shear counter force to slow the rotational motion of the lamp housing.

  • Patent number: 6024215
Abstract: A portable compact disc carrier is designed to hold a plurality of compact discs. A pair of covers are hinged at a pivot joint on a base bracket, having hollow pins movable therein. Dampening grease is swept on the surface of the pins when they are inserted into integrated cylinder drums on the base bracket. The outer ends of the pins are fixed on the covers. This arrangement restrains the speed of the covers' motion when they are turning open. Two springs are used to pre-load the covers so that they are always in the opening state when they are not hooked up by a latch assembly with a latch button. The button can be turned 90 degrees in the closed state to disable accidental opening of the compact disc carrier. A plurality of disc holding sleeve compartments are also hinged on the base bracket so that they can rotate in a fan-like configuration about an axis parallel to that of the covers. A leaf spring between the disc holders causes half to turn towards one cover and the other half towards the other cover.

  • Patent number: 5957134
Abstract: This invention relates to a new and improved anesthesia delivery system utilized in medical procedures wherein there is minimized build up of carbon dioxide levels in a patient due to a patient re-breathing their own exhaled gases. The anesthesia delivery system comprises a first tubular element hermetically coupled to a source of gas which is inhaled by a patient, and a second tubular element hermetically coupled to a system for expelling gas exhaled from a patient's lungs such that when a patient is intubated with the delivery system, the end of the first tubular element is positioned adjacent the patient's pharynx while the end of the second tubular element is positioned within the patient's trachea.

  • Patent number: 5569209
Abstract: This invention relates to a new and improved design associated with the fabrication and construction of a needleless transfer system wherein through the use of a unique valve mechanism there is avoided the necessity to utilize a needle in conjunction with a syringe for purposes of transferring and/or injecting a liquid medium from one environment into another environment. By having the valve mechanism comprise a hollow enclosure which has contained therein a compressible structure which acts both as a filter and as a mechanism to allow for the selective flow of a liquid medium through the system in a singular direction, the capabilities of the needleless transfer system are achieved.
